It would be so ironic if Hurns ended up being the man after so many wasted draft picks, many of which were first rounders.

Quote:It would be nice to have a Jags WR who actually produced for a change and isn't constantly injured or suspended.  Why are they so cursed at WR?  Frustrating.

Because most of them wear numbers in the teens.

lol, that common thread is there for most, but wouldn't qualify for Cecil.

the name theory might, however.

Hey, laugh all you want but I don't trust a WR who doesn't have an '8' as the first number for his jersey.

True. It would be ironic. I really think Allen Robinson will be an impact player for us though.  Maybe not tomorrow, maybe not early this season. But by next season for sure.
But but don't worry Hurns is so much more talented then shorts and should have been starting anyway..... But seriously our Starting O includes Henne and 3 rookies... If defense doesn't show up we will be out of this game by the first quarter.

Gerhart the x factor in this game.

I don't anticipate the Jags running game able to get much going. It hasn't since 2012. Its a terrible run blocking scheme, as well as lacking in talent on the interior OL>

ground it and keep the Eagles off the field..granted that changes once Bortles starts.

Yes

It's week one, I have no idea what to expect.
I have high hopes for the Lee/Robinson/Hurns combo for the next five years.  I'd add more to that list but when you think about it, do you really need more than three good wideouts?  Thinking back over the past 30 years or so, I can't think of many teams who had a need for more than three.

San Diego - Winslow (TE), Joiner, Jefferson

Miami - Clayton/Duper

Minnesota - Moss/Carter/Reed

Indy - Harrison/Wayne

There's probably many others I'm missing but if they can have three solid receivers, one of which turns out to be a true #1, they should be set for a long time.

I agree.. now, whether we have those guys on the roster remains to be seen.
I forgot Rice/Taylor.  Even they never had a really good third receiver if I recall correctly.  They had decent TEs here and there.

Well if the preseason is any indication, more of the same as what we saw last year. Very low YPC's for the RB. No, not due to them being not any good, but due to poor blocking and not many lanes. That was also the common theme with Yarno's Detroit OL's, but no one wants to pay attention.

I've rarely found the pre-season to be an indication of anything that happens in the regular season.  If nobody is open or Chad isn't seeing them, then yeah your probably right.  Got to open up the field, the Jags haven't done that in years.

Philly's run defense is no where near the level of what we faced in the preseason

I'm talking about the running game, and while you say that the preseason rarely is any indication....well, the Jags run blocking this preseason, looked an awful lot like the same poor run blocking we saw last regular season.

Huh? The Falcons and Bears defenses stink.

Lets hope so.  Would really like Toby to average higher than 4 yards a pop, sprinkled in with some Denard runs.

We need to "break" one so to speak for a long TD.
Quote:Well Dave has mentioned a few times that re-signing Shorts is a high priority....

Not sure why it would/ should be one.

Football, like life is not static.  Things change, the winners are the ones that can adapt when new facts are presented.

The run game get's better when the D respects WRs and the passing game.  Crossing my fingers that Henne comes out at tests the D with plays down field.  That will reduce the likelihood of the LBs and Secondary from leaning run.

Also, the play calling needs to keep the D guessing.  If we go back to the formula of Run/Run/Pass, we'll be in serious trouble.
