And how about R.J. Soward?   I'm sure your qualifier of 'top half of the first round' doesn't qualify him on purpose.  But he was also a first rounder.  But he was 81.


Of our 70 WR's, only 2 so far have panned out.  3 if Shorts gets it, and 6 with Hurns/Lee/Robinson.  That's a 4% success rate so far.  There's absolutely no discrepancy as I've stated.  Our QB play, and WR choices have been our problem.  NOT the numbers.  We haven't had a 1000 yard receiver since Jimmy Smith.  Reggie Williams is our 3rd leading receiver.  That's right.  The guy with one of those low numbers.  After him is another guy with a low number, and after him is ANOTHER guy with a low number.

I'm fine with math. As a matter of fact I've provided the most iron clad math of the thread.....

 

ZERO Jags WR have been a success that have worn the 10-19 numbers to this point. 

 

Over 10 (allegedly 25) Jags have worn the teen numbers in our existence) 

The only good Jaguars' QB we've ever had wore #8. If Bortles doesn't change his number, we're doomed.

Given that we've had bad Quarterback play... it's not really all that out of the ordinary to not have had much success from our 'low number' receivers.  Especially as we've only had two (so far) successful WR's in the history of our team.  That's a sign that we've been bad at picking WR's (and have never had adequate QB's to throw to them).

AT the very least - Living up to your draft status for 1st and 2nd day picks...

 

Being a productive, consistent starter for day 3 and below, picks.

 

Or such as in the case of someone like Reggie Barlow - being near the top of the NFL in your specialized area, which for him was punt / kick returns.

And still, it's idiotic to suggest the jersey numbers have any impact on the players.  But, I have to take into consideration where this is coming from, then it makes sense.  Run, Forrest, run!

No, clearly it's the jersey numbers.  It's got nothing to do with lousy QB play, or marginal receiver talent.  It's all about the numbers.

My definition of success for a day three pick is "make the team." The vast majority of day three picks don't end up as starters, but they're still productive role players and special teamers. Shoot, for an undrafted rookie, my definition of success is "be invited to camp." Stop putting artificially high qualifiers on things.
