Based exclusively on reality - Chad Henne #1, Blake Bortles #2 - and not a hope against hope wish our quarterback depth chart was reversed, how many games are you expecting us to win this season? Here is the schedule:
1. at Eagles
2. at Redskins
3. Colts
4. at Chargers
5. Steelers
6. at Titans
7. Browns
8. Dolphins
9. at Bengals
10. Cowboys*
11. Bye
12. at Colts
13. Giants
14. Texans
15. at Ravens
16. Titans#
17. at Texans
*in London
#on NFL Network
Home/away pattern: Two away, one home, one away, two home, travel three out of four weeks, two home, one away, one home, one away.
What stands out: Another trip to California. Statistically, we have one of the easiest schedules this year because we are in the NFL's weakest division. However we do not have an easy game at London no matter how bad the Cowboys are. The Redskins game will be interesting because they have a new coaching staff and were worse than us in 2013. The bye week comes at a good time - right before the game at Indianapolis. Home against the Titans will be fun to watch because it is our only night game.
I can't predict the results of all 16 games, but think we will lose at Philadelphia, San Diego, Cincinnati, and London if we do not make a huge improvement over last year. I always predict a loss at Indianapolis. We probably will show more signs of life in our losing games, however. I expect to win more games but still miss the playoffs as long as Chad Henne is the quarterback.
You are giving the Cowboys too much credit. They had the worst defense in the history of the league last year. Not only that, but theylost their 3 best players on defense. They are going to be god awful this year. There is only so much that Romo and Dez can do. Not only do we get to play our weak in division schedule, but we get to play the NFC East. Which I think when all is said and done could be just as bad, if not worse than our division. When I look at our schedule I do not see one game where I say "There is no way we win this game". I think If the Jags progress as the year goes on and we can avoid the injury bug, that theres no reason we can't be a .500 team.
Bortles will be starting at some point this season. Either the continuously bad play from Henne and/or the ascension of Bortles being undoubtedly ready; even injury. It would be nice if we could somehow get through the entire season with Henne and be an 8-8 team I would take that with this current roster. Like what was already said I don't see games that jump out saying "not winnable". The Colts have a grip on this division but it isn't like when they had Peyton Manning and a loaded offense. They have an aging Reggie Wayne who will still be productive and TY Hilton is another big play threat but also a lot of unproven talent still and throw in the fact they won't have Robert Mathis for a few games. I really like our home schedule. A few tough road trips but if the D can carry the team who knows.
Assuming Henne starts the season
1. at Eagles (L)
2. at Redskins (W)
3. Colts (L)
4. at Chargers (L)
5. Steelers (L)
6. at Titans (L)
Bortles takes the starting job
7. Browns (W)
8. Dolphins (W)
9. at Bengals (L)
10. Cowboys* (W)
11. Bye
12. at Colts (L)
13. Giants (W)
14. Texans (W)
15. at Ravens (L)
16. Titans# (W)
17. at Texans (W)
Jaguars go 8-8. Hurns ends up starting by the end of the season. Allen Robinson plays limited time all season with a lingering Hamstring injury. Marcedes has the second great season of his career. Branch has a mediocre season, while the four dline starters have solid seasons. The Leos (Clemons, Branch, Davis, Smith) combine for 22 sacks. Shorts has a solid season, but only good enough to receive a tender for next season. Gratz grows into a number 1 corner, and Cyprien improves. Center remains a problem throughout the season. Joeckel will progress, but still receive criticism. Bortles ends up having a rookie season compared to Andrew Luck's. Overrall, the team will be much improved with more depth and a lot more speed.
The AFCS is wide open and the NFC East is not as good as I thought they were. I think we're a 5-7 win team. I'm not impressed by Henne or our OL and we need a player or two to breakout on defense.
5-11 at best imo because with chad we will lose 5/6 of the first games.
1. at Eagles
2. at Redskins
3. Colts
4. at Chargers
5. Steelers
6. at Titans
7. Browns
8. Dolphins
9. at Bengals
10. Cowboys*
11. Bye
12. at Colts
13. Giants
14. Texans
15. at Ravens
16. Titans#
17. at Texans
I'm predicting 7 wins simply because I believe our actual talent level, depth and coaching quality exceeds our team's perception, and therefore we will surprise a few teams who will take us too lightly.

i think we can beat the steelers and titans and split with colts.
The Jags will win 6 or maybe 7 games this year.
Anyone who thinks thats too low is delusional.
2015 is the step up year, not this year.
2-14 with Henne.
7-9 with Bortles
If the o-line play continues as is, then anything above 6 or 7 wins is unrealistic in my opinion. Especially with Henne as a starter.
David, are you saying we will win five games? I thought it was obvious bold means home game in my original post.
TMD, that is what the media has been saying - we are one year away - and I totally agree with that. However, that is what they said in 1996, so your usual pessimism is not realistic. The worst divisions are on our schedule. So are all three AFC North teams who missed the playoffs. I would not be surprised if we win eight games.

LOL!!!!!
So me saying 6-7 wins this season is being "pessimistic"?!
ROFL!!!!!!
7 wins.
6 if Henne is still QB after the bye.

8-8, we have a string of 3 losses back to back. But at 8-8 in our weak conference we might have a shot at getting a wild-card.

LOL I was calling you a pessimist because you complain about and criticize almost everything we do.
That said, seven wins would not surprise me either.

That actually isn't true - at least not from May 9th -onward. Since the draft I have been very positive about this team. Sure I still have my fringe complaints on what needs improving, but overall my tone has been one that sees good things for the outlook of this team long term.

I agree. That's my take, too.
Our offensive line is weak. Any injury to a starter there makes it even worse. Injuries are inevitable.
