I caught the end of the game in my car. I always felt Sexton was pretty wooden. The way I would describe what I heard was that it sounded more personable, maybe because I am used to hearing him on the evening drive show. I will need to hear more to give a true opinion, but I didn't get a real sense of "energy" when he was calling the plays. More like the plays were happening in between sentences of some story he was telling if that makes sense.

He screwed up quite a few times during the game, and always seemed to be on a self imposed time delay in calling plays. I thought it was the radio station at first, but then I started hearing the background noise in the stadium and it was in synch with what was happening live, so either he was calling the game by watching the jumbotrons, or he waited on his spotters before making any calls.
When the 4th quarter started and he referred to it multiple times as the 4th period, I turned the radio off.

I didn't listen until well into 4th quarter on way home. But hard to tell at that point as they were more in discussion mode about various players at that point and the actual game seemed secondary.

I agree with the two persons above - I only heard a little at the end as I was driving home. It sounded somewhat like his afternoon show, very conversational and laid back/low key.
I think that's because this was a pre-season game. A lot of player movement and not a lot of fluid game action. Probably a very difficult type of game to broadcast.
And FBT - it seems that you were predisposed to dislike the guy, but I think we ought to judge him when the real season starts - you know, like we would a football team. He's allowed to settle into his new job just like anyone else.
I don't care one way or the other. Those of us living in Jacksonville can avoid all this self-imposed angst by actually going to the game. Then we can gripe about that guy and Fred Taylor commenting on the game - not that I could hear them any way.

I was at the game. I always listen to the game audio during the game. It used to be the best way to get the most immediate information on things like injuries, or ball placement, or whatever else is happening during the game. With Frangie at the helm, it hasn't gotten better. It's taken a step back. Maybe I am predisposed to not liking him as a play by play guy, but he's done nothing to shake my belief that he was not the best option when Sexton took the job with the Jags. He was the only available option. My expectationt is the voice of the Jaguars will be a different person a year from now.

The way Shad Khan is doing everything else first class, the Frangie and Kouvaris selections wreak of impulse buys when there were few other options. They are to the broadcast teams what Mike Mularkey was to the coaching options 3 years ago.

At least their headsets will be aligned perfectly before each broadcast.

Yeah. They do not fit with the rest of what he is doing.

Sexton was awful, Boselli is awful and Fred Taylor doesn't have a voice for radio (of course, I was trying to listen in the way home while 3 drunks were yapping it up in the car so I'll give him another chance).
I haven't heard Frangie yet but I agree both with the guy who said to give him a chance and with FBT who compared him to Mularkey.
I would guess there would be a concerted search this year to identify the next voice of the Jaguars. He has to be better than the amateurish Sexton (I do like his almost amazing ability to recall specifics of past years, though).

I heard a little of it. To be honest, it surprised me that it wasn't just a complete train wreck. I think his voice conveys a bit more emotion than Sexton who was bland but that's not to say he was great. He stumbled over his words a couple time even in the short time I listened. I'm more willing to give him a chance though, now than I was before the game to see if he can grow into it over time.

In a word, hideous.

Which is why I believe they're temporary patches.

Sexton was an icon (as he is an integral part of Jaguar history.) Kouvaris thinks he's an icon. Frangie won't be an icon.
No one is going to like everyone.
Like him or not, the sound is different without Sexton, and not in a good way. He and Lageman had a good radio "balance," and now it's unfortunately gone. The rapport clearly isn't there with the new crew. Maybe it will come in time, but maybe not. PBP has to be natural, without getting in the way. Frangie came off frantic and tense, which had the opposite effect.
OTOH, I thought the TV brodcast was as good as it's ever been, perhaps the best it's been. My only gripe there is that both Brunell and Kouvaris have more of a golf match, laid back approach. Most of the time you don't have two similar personalities, there's usually an off-setting or balanced lineup with one wildcard, colorful character mixed in.
That being said, do we really want sideshow characters screaming about unicorns and show ponies? or a Gruden who can't stop talking about how he "loves the guy!."
They aren't that, and there isn't necessarily anything wrong with that.

I wonder who the next guy will be that people can inevitably complain about.

Someone better than that clown. He's not even good on his own show, much less a play by play

Frangie is terrible.
Kouvaris is terrible.
Neither is qualified to do the job they are currently doing.
Last year the team had Kevin Kugler, who calls Sunday Night football for Westwood One. This year the team has Kouvaris, who is a local sports anchor.
Huge downgrade.
No way around it.

Same old story. Careful what you wish for I suppose.

I didn't listen to the radio broadcast at all. I can only go off of Frangie when he did play by play for college games. Always seemed pretty good to me.
