well it had more to do with your posts..
Funny this comes up, i brought it up about a year ago and sought advice but I wasn't prepared to do anything with working out until a month ago when i got up to 372 lbs and lightheaded every day. So far I'm down to 352 and really haven't done anything drastic in terms of changing my eating habits. I am on average losing 1-2 lbs a week and with no more exercise besides walking (until tomorrow night when i get back into the gym)

Typical meal

6 eggs (3 are egg whites only) with 1tblspoon butter, feta cheese, onions, and mushrooms (no meat) with a glass of water and either an apple, banana, or cup of grapes.

lunch

Spinach and mushroom etouffee with garlic bread and rice

Dinner

8 oz mahi mahi with some lemongrass, basil, thai rice with brocoli, baby corn, and sugar snap peas.

Snacks

Freezey pops because summer

Apples

Granola bars

grapes or bananas

not all these snacks but i do a morning and afternoon snack

I drink 64oz of water and walk 1.75 miles and climbing a day.

What i use: I have a Fit Bit (i recommend it highly either the bracelet or the pocket one), i use Run Keeper, and My fitness pal.

Fit Bit tracks all my activity and calories burned

Run keeper tells me how many calories I burn specifically on my walks

My Fitness pal helps me track my calories. You choose your age, height, weight and how much weight you want to lose per week and it sets a calorie goal each day to maintain. When you exercise it gives you calories. It tracks all your nutritional information down to how much sodium and iron you take in each day. One of the coolest things you can do is you can scan your food ala the barcode and just put in the serving size.

If you do a meal say like chili or something that has a lot of ingredients, the best thing to do there is to track the amount of each ingredient you cook on a piece of paper. Once you add it all up together, you measure out the amount cooked and say if you make 10 cups of chili for a total of 2,000 calories, then you would say 1 cup equals 200 calories and measure off what you want to eat for dinner.

Right now it has me sitting on about 2400 calories a day and i gain 375 calories back usually each day and often stay under 2,000 calories. And get this.......it's not even hard to do!

If you need meal ideas let me know. I've essentially got some good stuff that allows me to eat really good and it's fresh all the way through for the most part. The rice stuff for my dinner is found at Kroger(dunno if you all have that).

i buy groceries for a few days at a time incorporating a lot of veggies into my diet. I'm a vegetarian but I eat fish so a pescatarian if that's spelled right. I occasionally will have a bite of chicken or steak if im out and someone says " you gotta try this!!"

Congrats on the weight loss!

I also use a fitbit, for about 3 years now I guess. Handy little guy.
Quote:Anybody here supplement? A routine of Whey Protein, Creatine and Glutamine will have you absolutely shredded in about 12 weeks.
Protein and Creatine are probably the only supplements necessary, and even protein powder is mainly used for its convenience. You would get just as shredded in 12 weeks from post/ pre workout meals, instead of post/ pre workout supps.

Pre workouts/ thermogenics might be worth it for the added energy, but with all the recent rumors about Pre workouts being bad for you, im not so sure.

I always thought you were at least 60. And I always picture you with an eyepatch, too.

So did anyone ever figure out whether or not you can smoke p90x (or that other exercise thing with the numbers or letters)? If not I'm probably just gonna not be healthy for the time being, if I can help it. I do chew a lot of spearmint gum, though.

You just need to look at each ingredient. Some pre workouts are fine to take while some could be pretty sketchy. Jack3d was pretty sketchy but they redid the formula. Haven't looked at the new one so I'm not sure if it's good or not.

I have to have some caffeine before I workout (going at 4 am).

Likewise, I still use them, alot of people freak out about that kind of stuff tho.

I take:

Whey

Casein (when I have the money)

Pre-workout

Creatine

Beta-Alanine

Arginine
Only thing I've done is use protein shakes. Maybe I should look into adding a little creatine to my daily routine. Just don't want to get that bloated look. Thoughts?

I've been taking creatine for 4-5 years now, and have never felt bloated.

The only thing I have experienced with creatine is stomach discomfort and that went away after the first week.
Once you stop taking it thought, boom goes the flub. I don't get why people can't do it au natural. When I was in shape and working out on the regular, I had a solid figure.

I started losing myself in mid January and use runkeeper, I'll have to add you. I really like the app.

A lot of people don't have the genetics to do it naturally, so they look for anything that will help them. Or they don't have the right diet.

It really depends on what your goal might be and what your genetics might be.

I work out and eat healthy. In just doing that I am a very fit 6'3 180, aka skinny. It's just my natural build. I have a hard time gaining weight. I have eaten 3000 calories a day and still been unable to gain. I take protein and creatine and can get around 190.

I could cut out cardio and gain but I would be sacrificing the health benefits of the cardio.

I'm a hard gainer as well. I'm trying to get up to 190-200 range. I'm at 182 right now.

Congrats, you're off to a good start.  I've gone up and down in weight forever...at one point I lost over 100 lbs.  I've gained some of it back, but better off than I used to be.

I workout 3-4 times a week doing a crossfit like workout.  If you can get into that kind of stuff, I say do it.  I was pushing a pretty heavy weight when I started.  Push ups, pull ups, squats...it all sucked at first, but I love it now.

Definitely depends on your goals.  About 8 or 9 years ago I weighed 147 pounds at 5'11''.  I remember I was at buckets at the beach with my shirt off and the lady told me to put my shirt back on, lol.  Seriously, that was the day I was like I'm going to start working out and tired of being the skinny guy.  Eventually I got into a heavy lifting routine, ate everything in site and now up to 180-182 pounds.  It is tough, eating becomes a chore and I think I'm okay staying around this weight now, but if you want to gain weight, you can.  I think I was eating between 3,500 to 4,500 calories.  Now my body is used to this weight so it would be really hard for me to ever get that skinny again.

I like to do things as naturally as possible.  Protein shakes for me are a convenience I don't think I could do without.  Plus it is extremely cost effective. I may add creatine and see what kind of results I get.
