Well that figured. Darn that Goodell for this! Harrumph!
Quote:The whole "radio city music hall is booked" is such [BAD WORD REMOVED].
They played the same excuse for moving the draft back 2 weeks this year.
The NFL has been doing it for years at the same location. Pretty sure whoever does the booking does it way ahead of time. It probably just a formality. I can imagine the NFL paying very well for the spot as well.
Radio City Music Hall would rather host an NFL draft than any other event basically.
It is laughable that they are trying to put that out there and expect us to believe it.
RCMH had an Easter Show scheduled for the normal weekend of the NFL Draft this year. The show was eventually postponed until 2015. Hence, the weekend the draft normally is didn't have an event at RCMH this year. Understandably, the NFL was disturbed by this.
One would think that RCMH would rather host an NFL Draft than any other event. Yet, considering James Dolan's history, I'm not giving him the benefit of the doubt on anything. If anyone is capable of screwing up having an event of the magnitude of the NFL Draft at their facility, it's Dolan.

I believe the NFL wanted to move it back a couple of weeks to increase exposure, which they accomplished.
The Easter Show being booked on the usual date to me doesn't indicate that the Easter Show just happened to book it first... the NFL let that happen.
Basically, the NFL can host the draft wherever and whenever they want. An freakin Easter Show is not going to postpone the plans of a multi billion dollar business.
It might be Dolan being a doofus - but I think it was a calculated move by the NFL to move it back a few weeks.
They gave the Easter Show excuse to make it seems less conspicuous.
I'll give you one thing - I don't know much about Dolan. Is he that much of a screw-up (before I do my quick google search)?

How did the NFL "let" someone else book first? Shouldn't the onus be on RCMH to call the league office and check with them before they book another event on the traditional long time draft weekend? Seems like it to me.

I don't think it was the NFL's intentions to move back the NFL Draft two weeks. But I do agree with you that they took advantage of the opportunity that was presented.
James Dolan runs MSG, RCMH, and Cablevision. All one needs to know about Dolan is the plight of the Knicks in the new century. It's hard to imagine a franchise in the largest market in the country being run more inefficiently and ineffectively. The only reason the Rangers turned things around is the type of NHL salary cap that was implemented following the 2004-05 lockout that wiped out the entire season. Before that, the Dolan led organization spent as much money as any team on players but the results were the team consistently ( 7 straight seasons ) didn't make the playoffs in a league that more than half of the teams qualify for the playoffs.

RCMH "You guys want your usual spot in late April next year too, right?"
NFL: "Nah... Give us May 9th.. but keep it on the DL"

Ha, I wouldn't put it past Goodell, but I think RCMH would have let that cat out of the bag at this point.
Goodell keeps trying to change things that don't need changing, but I can't see this going to 4 days. Rumor has it he sees long term viability in moving the draft to London.

exactly. He's a jack [BLEEP]
Gurantee you there will be a superbowl in London within the next 10 years

Are either of these a problem for you guys?
I think its funny everyone hates on goodell so much. you guys do know he is just the face of the nfl. his job is to take the boo's and all the hate. so the owners can look like the good guys while they really run the nfl at their numerous closed door meetings. sorta like mafia capo's with a figurehead don who gets the heat. does anyone really think goodell does anything the owners haven't approved? publicly or not.

Yep. The Superbowl produces big dollars for the local economies of the cities its played in. Why do we need to be giving that up to a foreign country? Just so we can further Goodell's agenda??
The draft in London I'd have less of a problem with, but it would still be stupid.

Hmmm, you have a point. I hadn't considered that.
Although it's not the NFL's job to worry about the local economies of U.S. Cities.

That sounds like something Goodell would say.
Day four of the draft would be a snoozefest of epic proportions!!!

I'm assuming it would just be rounds 6-7? I consider myself a pretty hardcore draft fan but I'm not sure I'd be down for that.

Even with a Commissioner who has made it a priority to promote the NFL in London, I would be shocked if the NFL Draft is held in London in the next 15 years. After the first 10 or 15 picks, I'm of the opinion most of the fans in Europe would lose interest. It's probably going to take at least another generation of fans before hosting the NFL Draft overseas would be a viable option for the NFL.

For a 4 day draft, my guess would be Day 1 would be Round 1. Day 2 would be Round 2. Day 3 would be Round 3. And Day 4 would be Rounds 4 through 7. With the possibility of Day 3 being both Round 3 and Round 4.
I don't think Day 4 would be just Rounds 6 or 7 . There probably wouldn't be enough interest in getting the vast majority of fans to tune in.
Hopefully, it won't come to this, with the NFL Draft remaining 3 Days. But I'm not counting on that. The only hope in preventing a 4 day draft is if enough NFL teams object to it because of the physical strain it will put on the football decision makers and coaches.

But undoubtedly, part of the sales pitch the NFL makes to cities when trying to get them to build new stadiums and award Super Bowls is the economic impact the new stadiums will have in those cities.
It would be disingenuous for the NFL to then turn around and say we're not concerned about local economies.
