Exactly.  He's not some evil mastermind sitting in his office on Park Avenue trying to come up with new ideas for what direction to take the league in.  Rather, he's a guy who is very good at doing the bidding for those who pay his bills, and for that dedication, he's rewarded handsomely by a group of billionaires and mega millionaires. 

I wouldn't mind an 18 game schedule if they did away with 2 preseason games. Obviously, 2 additional games would require a lot of additional planning, finances etc... But I would love more football.

I'm fine with moving the location. Think it would be kinda cool to host the draft in the city of the team with the number 1 pick.

I like that idea. Every NFL city has the capacity to deal with an event like the draft and the money comes from TV, so it's not like it really matters where the commissioner stands when reading the names.

 

He could do it in his own bathroom via skype and it would still draw viewers.

And as for people not watching the sixth or seventh round - this is said on the same message board that can go on for page after page regarding possible tight ends from Western Kentucky who would be good selections in the sixth round. People will watch.

 

Finally - some people seem to make the point of "it's all about the bottom line" like that's a bad thing. The bottom line is only benefited if people buy the product. And right now people are certainly buying the product. The last time I looked we were the people.

I agree with y'all's comment about "that's what the NFL Network is for" but that's just the League using it's own broadcasting platform to promote it's product. In order to keep in line with the revenue generation, I would think that other broadcasting entities would want to be involved as well; read "ESPN". And while the Worldwide Leader isn't above cowtowing to the Shield, I would imagine that a broadcast of just the Sixth and Seventh rounds would take a back seat to the PBA broadcast.

  While I respect where you are coming from,  there's two concerns from a TV ratings drama standpoint regarding the team with the # 1 pick having the opportunity to host the draft:

 

  1.   The team that has the # 1 pick might announce ahead of time which player it will draft with pick # 1.   Or it might be obvious which player they will pick, even if they don't publicly announce it.     When a clear cut franchise QB is in the draft,   the chances of this happening are greatly increased.

 

 2.    The team that has the # 1 pick might trade the pick during the time frame of the end of the regular season to the hours leading up to the start of the draft.   If they trade down,   then there wouldn't be a significant negative impact.    However,  if they no longer have a 1st Round pick,  the collective fans of the team that previously had the pick will lose plenty of interest in the draft.    Most of the collective fans of a team aren't as passionate about the NFL as the people on a Forum such as this one.  

 

 Considering the extent the NFL now wants to milk the draft,   my guess is the league is going to want to know before the end of December/  early January where the NFL Draft will take place.    Especially considering the amount of hotel space that's needed.      It's starting to feel like the NFL wants to make the NFL Draft into a smaller version of Super Bowl week.
