I know one die hard Bronco fan who was upset to see Beadles go. He said he was an assending player. I hope he is right.

Pretty much this.
Reality check...Super Bowl

My prediction is that there will be a new thread pop up in the College Football section to discuss the 2015 Mock NFL Draft as we enter the 4th quarter against the Eagles.  Imagine having a Bortles/Winston QB competition in camp next season.

Reality check:

91% of the people on this board are predicting between 5 and 8 wins with 8 being the absolute best case scenario for all intensive purposes.

Because a few people are more optimistic, doesn't mean the board is running rampant with wild expectations.

Damn. And I already had hotel reservations in Glendale. Stupid reality check. Doh!

Beat me to it.
Thank goodness we got a reality check!  For a minute there I was thinking we would be fortunate to go 8-8 if everything went right for this team.

Can you cash a reality check at payday advance?

Yes, but you won't like the associated fees.
This thread was pretty useless.

Wait.  What?  Why?  Everyone needs a little reality check on occasion.

So was this post.
Reality Check....hope Myslinski and his staff know what their doing.

I just got checked!
Quote:I'm really looking forward to the up-coming season of Jaguars football. I'm hoping that with the acquisitions gained in FA and the draft that there will be some improvement reflected via the end of season record. I am not, however, drinking the teal kool-aid just yet; after so many seasons of disappointments, I'm learning to 'not count my chickens before they've hatched'. The optimism of an 8-8 or better season and even play-offs are... well, stretching the limits of credibility.

Let's get real for a moment...

1. our offensive line is made up of players who are either unproven, mediocre, or out-right bad. Add to this the fact that they have largely never played together in real games and you have the ingredients for trouble.

2. Chad Henne is the starting quarterback. He is an experienced player and will do the best he can. The problem is that his best isn't really all that good. In fact, on his best days Henne is, by NFL standards, only a mediocre quarterback. Repeat; on his best days... add to that the fact he will be behind a questionable offensive line (see #1 above) and again... trouble.

3. our new receivers; they might be really good! But then again... they might not. They are rookies, and rookies make rookie mistakes. They have to learn the NFL game too. And they are already experiencing injuries before there has even been any contact! Now, combine that with a, 'at best' mediocre quarterback and a suspect offensive line and... trouble. This offense looks like it might have to lean a lot on the running game for a while. That's ok; Henne can hand the ball off with the best of 'em. Now, can this 'new' line run block? 3-4 yards and a cloud of dust...

So it really seems like it makes sense to sit Blake Bortles for a while, even if he seems ready to play. We need our O-line to jell before putting him in there. All things being equal, I wouldn't expect too much from the offense this season. We just have had so many holes to fill that it's going to take another FA and draft to do it... at least. Yes, we could have perhaps traded down to get some more draft picks but we would've been picking from the bottom of the barrel instead of the top. The end result would've been to replace mediocre talent with more mediocre talent.

On the other hand, our defense took real strides toward improvement, primarily through FA acquisition. As long as these FA's don't have the 'paid vacation' attitude, we should be better on defense this season... much better. After all, we couldn't really get much worse, could we?

Here is what I hope to see from the jag's this season.

1. at least a 5-11 record. I mean, come on....

2. in defeat, don't get blown out. Too many games last season were decided by or before the end of the first half. At least stay in the game and keep it close and competitive.

A lot of people make much of the four wins at the end of the season last year. I don't. I want to see us win when the other team is bringing it's A game.

I guess there's a reason why so many are expecting the jags to not do phenomenally better this year than last. Yeah, we should do a 'little' better, but 8-8 or better is just un-realistic. I would be very happy if I was very, very, wrong and we went to the SB. However, the probability is we will, at best, be middle of the pack. But that would be a dramatic improvement.
This wouldnt be a reality check.. Most of us have an idea at how much the jags will improve.. No ones blind yet.. At the same time this is the NFL, anything can happen.. Stars could be born, injuries, and development, we just dont know yet how they gonna perform.. They could turn it around like the Chiefs..I honestly am hoping for at least a 7-9 team and i think thats reasonable.
The Chiefs in my opinion had more talent (not much more) than the Jaguars when Andy Ried took them over, but both teams were dead last before the start of last years season.  The difference is Andy Ried is a seasoned great Head Coach in the NFL while Gus had just gotten promoted to HC for the first time.  Andy is going to have tricks and talent that Gus hasnt learned yet in regards to dealing with players, media, owners, GMs, opposing teams, etc.

I think most fans beleive in Gus, along with the players (heck many of them say they wanted to come here because  of the coaching staff), and the media felt that Gus was going to be lightning in a bottle (they simmered down after the disappointing start to the Jaguars season last year).

Let's look at the schedule for this season;

At Eagles    (L?)  The last time the Jaguars played in Philadelphia (I went to that game Smile) we won, DG had gotten the start after Byron injury.  If the Eagles play the way they did the start of last season they will score a lot early with Nick Foles, but without Jackson maybe they will be a different type of team.  I expect the fast pace offense catches the Jaguars Defense off guard.

At Redskins (W?) They have a new HC, and they were horrible last season, should be an easy win RG3 isnt the same QB as his rookie year.

Colts (L) - I think the jaguars will split wins here and wouldnt be the first time its away instead of home, close game.

At Chargers (L?) - Blame it on Jet lag ( the plane ride to the west coast) but I expect a loss there.

Steelers  (L) - Similar teams but Steelers have the talent and Big Ben will show how Bortles should play.

At Titans (W) - I expect a sweep with them.

Browns (W) - Hopefully Bortles will be playing by this time, and the battle of Johnny vs Blake with Bortles winning at home.

Dolphins (W) - This game will be won on the ground by Toby.

At Bengals (W)- The bengals will fall apart by this time in the season.

Cowboys (W) - Americas team will get spanked by the Men in Black

Bye

At Colts (W) with or without Luck Jags will pull off a victory.

Giants (L) - Coughlin wants to prove he shouldve stayed in Jacksonville and wins by more than 10.

Texans (W) - I expect a sweep here even with Clowney & JJ Watt

At Ravens (L) - Flacco's car is too small for him, but like his car he can get up to speed fast.

Titans (W) easy win

Texans (W) easy win

In the above scenario the team would go 10-6, but I expect things could happen such as a loss to the Redskins as the new OL trys to gel along with other rookies.  It is also possible that we split wins with the Titans, or get swept by the colts but worst case I expect the team will go 8-8 (.500) which is twice as many wins as last year.

What is their doing?
I still expect a 6 win season. Nothing will change that expectation. I think it's still too young of a team to expect more.
