Denver enjoyed the biggest point spread in NFL history when they faced off against the Jags last year.  While they won the game, it certainly didn't pan out the way the odds makers had predicted.

Any given Sunday.

Because only winning by 20 means the Broncos weren't in control over the entire game.

Sure there is no such thing as a gimme, but when a team like the Broncos plays 10 games against teams of the Jaguars caliber from 2013 they expect to win at least 9 of them, and it's not unlikely they'd win all 10 with none of them being any closer than that 20 point squeaker from last season.

If the Jaguars ever get to be on the Broncos/Seahawks 2013 level again we'll see a lot of games as gimmes.
Quote:We're probably going 5-11 or 6-10 this season.

How's that for a reality check???

I'm so tired of seasons with 5 wins or less. I feel like somehow demanding at least 6 wins. The optimist in me is hoping for 8 wins so they can finally avoid another losing season. I'd be shocked to see 9 or more wins though.

Folks such as yourself love to downplay just how close that game was regardless of the final score.  It's a good thing those in the national media actually took note.  The Jags laid out the blueprint for how to beat Denver.  Seattle certainly was paying attention.

In the end, the Jags simply didn't have enough talent to close the game out, but the score really didn't reflect what transpired on the field.  That game, more than any of the wins the team had last year, actually set the tone for the optimism most feel for the future of this team.  It showed the team hadn't quit on their coach, and that they actually did take pride in what they were trying to accomplish on the field.  Others took note. It's a shame some fans didn't.

Its ok, bro....we're close to some much better days in my opinion. Hang in there!

And that blueprint was to have the Broncos fumble inside the 10 yard line on their way to a score?

I wouldn't be surprised if the Broncos spent no time at all gameplanning for the Jaguars and were instead focused on the next opponent.

The seahawks didn't do anything different than they always do in the Superbowl, if you really think they needed the Jaguars getting handled to show them something maybe you'd like to buy some beachfront property in Montana.

Downplay it as you see fit.  Like I said, others saw it very differently, and I'm not talking about Jag fans.

Could you go ahead and link me to any reputable site that said the Seahawks followed the Jaguars blueprint en route to dominating the Broncos?

Just one would be fine.

I wish I could provide you with an article from a "reputable site."  Unfortunately, it was a conversation that was had on one of the national broadcasts last year.  It was also mentioned by Chris Berman during an interview with 1010XL during the Coughlin Jay Fund golf tournament.  I'm sure you can find that interview in the 1010XL archives if you're industrious enough.

No, you made the assertion, if you really want to be taken seriously you need to find the interview.

If you're not interested in proving that it wasn't just your imagination then that's okay, but don't try to pin the responsibility for verifying your assertions on me.

What I remember most about that game was the dread I felt going into it, and the massive relief when we didn't lose by historic proportions.

Oh no!  My credibility might be called into question on an interwebs message baord!  What ever shall I do!?!

I think my credibility will survive this just fine without having to lift a finger.

But we lost by 20, so your optimism was misdirected.

I can relate to this.

I actually started conning myself into thinking...."maybe...." by the early 3rd Q....and then, back to reality shortly afterwards..

Your credibility with me is what I'm talking about.

I expect people that already decided they like you will continue to do so, and people that already decided they don't like you will continue to do so as well. Sycophancy and antagonism aren't anything unusual.

Like I said, if you're just not interested in intrinsic credibility then that's fine, but don't act like it's my responsibility to work toward your credibility.
I hope for the best but i still think we hit about the 6 win mark. I think we are still so young and that Oline needs to gel for much of anything to happen.

Quote:The Chiefs in my opinion had more talent (not much more) than the Jaguars when Andy Ried took them over, but both teams were dead last before the start of last years season. The difference is Andy Ried is a seasoned great Head Coach in the NFL while Gus had just gotten promoted to HC for the first time. Andy is going to have tricks and talent that Gus hasnt learned yet in regards to dealing with players, media, owners, GMs, opposing teams, etc.

I think most fans beleive in Gus, along with the players (heck many of them say they wanted to come here because of the coaching staff), and the media felt that Gus was going to be lightning in a bottle (they simmered down after the disappointing start to the Jaguars season last year).

Let's look at the schedule for this season;

At Eagles (L?) The last time the Jaguars played in Philadelphia (I went to that game Smile) we won, DG had gotten the start after Byron injury. If the Eagles play the way they did the start of last season they will score a lot early with Nick Foles, but without Jackson maybe they will be a different type of team. I expect the fast pace offense catches the Jaguars Defense off guard.

At Redskins (W?) They have a new HC, and they were horrible last season, should be an easy win RG3 isnt the same QB as his rookie year.
Colts (L) - I think the jaguars will split wins here and wouldnt be the first time its away instead of home, close game.
At Chargers (L?) - Blame it on Jet lag ( the plane ride to the west coast) but I expect a loss there.
Steelers (L) - Similar teams but Steelers have the talent and Big Ben will show how Bortles should play.
At Titans (W) - I expect a sweep with them.
Browns (W) - Hopefully Bortles will be playing by this time, and the battle of Johnny vs Blake with Bortles winning at home.
Dolphins (W) - This game will be won on the ground by Toby.
At Bengals (W)- The bengals will fall apart by this time in the season.
Cowboys (W) - Americas team will get spanked by the Men in Black
Bye
At Colts (W) with or without Luck Jags will pull off a victory.
Giants (L) - Coughlin wants to prove he shouldve stayed in Jacksonville and wins by more than 10.
Texans (W) - I expect a sweep here even with Clowney & JJ Watt
At Ravens (L) - Flacco's car is too small for him, but like his car he can get up to speed fast.
Titans (W) easy win
Texans (W) easy win

In the above scenario the team would go 10-6, but I expect things could happen such as a loss to the Redskins as the new OL trys to gel along with other rookies. It is also possible that we split wins with the Titans, or get swept by the colts but worst case I expect the team will go 8-8 (.500) which is twice as many wins as last year.
not mu h more talent ? Didnt the chiefs have like 8 pro bowlers on there defense?

hey what do you know? It survived.
The true reality check.

that game did appear to shift the atmosphere around here. I think even John O wrote about how hard we fought and the good feeling we had for the future after that game.
