Justin Blackmon is not overrated by some of us. He really IS as good as advertised.

I think this is just Jags fan trying to convince himself that Blackmon's not that good so they can try and rationalize his dismissal.
Totally agree, and if he could build some chemistry and timing over a couple of seasons with any QB and he would eclipse a 1000 yds imo.
Blackmon has 10 games of 50 yards and under. 8 of those games happened in the first 9 games he ever played in the NFL.

In the 11 game span since game 9 of his career he has 1030 yards which averages 94 ypg. If he averaged that over a 16 game season he would have 1504 yards which would have made him second in the NFL. That is about as elite as it gets for any player, and considering he was accumulating these stats in his rookie and second season makes it even more impressive.

You can try to kid yourself all day long, but the fact remains Justin was playing at an elite level for an eleven game stretch before his career came to a sudden stop.

He had the best potential to be a #1 we have had in years. He just got his head stuck in his rectum and its hard to make catches that way. Can't call him overrated.
Quote:He was young tho.. he hasn't even played a full 2 seasons and had nothing at QB, I don't understand the AJ Green comparisions but the dude had top 10 ability for sure, no question about it. You put him in Denver and he takes the #1 spot from DT within a season.
He had tons of potential to be a great 3rd down or go to guy, but he wasnt smart.  In order to be suspended for a full year you have to fail the urine (drug) test 3 times.  He had tons of off field issuses which prompted GM Dave's attempt to trade him away.

The guy was another 1st round bust (due to off field issuses, which they had signs even before he signed with the Jaguars).
Quote:Ok, at least we cleared that up. Some on here actually have and do make that argument.

I don't think anyone has ever tried to portray Shorts as being anything more than a good receiver for this team, but don't let facts get in the way when you're on one of your hyperbolic rants.

Quote:He might have had 400 yards in that Houston game with a "good" QB.

Good stuff right here.

Quote:All I know is:

Blackmon, Lee, Robinson

could legitimately be the best NFL WR trio ever. Topping the Washington Redskins Clark, Monk and Sanders.

You'd better prepare yourself for the reality check that's coming when Blackmon doesn't make it back on the field for this or any other team.

Quote:Maybe if he felt some love from the fans rather than crap like some of the people have posted here it would be more motivation to come back here and get things right.

You're seriously trying to blame fans for his inability to shake his alcoholism?  I can't even begin to tell you just how monumentally idiotic that comment is.
Quote:I've read some really scathing posts on here while he's been suspended. No, not on this thread but before.

The dude has problems. Hating on him isn't solving those problems.

Do you honestly think Blackmon is not only READING this board, but he's actually allowing comments by anonymous posters on here to impact his ability to get back on the right path?

What an incredible ego you have for someone so unaccomplished.
we all know Blackmon as the talent, just needs to get his life back on track.

I think that's the overwhelming majority opinion around here, but apparently we're overrating him.
in today's game, a wr has a chance to make  an average qb shine... take megatron and josh gordon... neither is on a team with an outstanding offense but both have shined in their own position....justin had the same opportunity and was seemingly doing to same thing till all the crap hit the fan... the 200 yard game against the texans his rookie year was nothing to be down played, that d was highly regarded and he ran all over them that day... i never heard anyone say he was going to be jerry rice, but if that guy had one full year with a halfway decent offense, i think he would easily be considered elite

Agreed.  The potential is definitely there.  His inability to stay on the field is the one factor that's impeding his ability to take potential and make it reality.  Apparently, it's the fans fault he's unable to do so.

OK folks, let me just put a end to this. It's my fault. Back shortly after we drafted him I ran into Justin at the Ritz one day along with a couple of other players. I foolishly sent a round of drinks to them not knowing of course that the one drink I sent over would be the one to bring down Justin's career. I sincerely apologize for my complete disregard of the teams interest.

So in closing, if folks are looking to blame fans for JB's inability to put down the drink put it solely on me and not the rest of our most supportive and loving of fans.

This is not entirely correct. This is ONE way.

Damn, guess I forgot to mention the drinks were sent to the table at precisely 4:10 pm. 10 minutes later I invited JB to come check out my new ride. Oops again.

<b><i>As said, maybe not in this thread, but there are indeed posters on this board who do think Shorts is better than Blackmon and have posted that exact premise in the past. So "you may not think...." this or that about Shorts as said above, but you are wrong.

Well, you sure have changed your tune on Blackmon after a couple weeks.

No, I already explained that comment in response to SJ previously in the thread when he tried that same response as you did above.

Anyone who knows football can see blackmon had all the tools to be elite. If you can't see that there's no helping you.

Over the past couple of weeks, I've done something you rarely do.  I've listened to what the coaches and others around the team are saying about Blackmon.  My position on whether they'd cut him if he came back remains exactly the same.  If he can get back on the field, he'll do so as a Jaguar.  My point above is that I am beginning to think there is a strong possibility he won't ever play again in the league.  Maybe it's because his psyche is so damaged by the mean things people say about him on the board, right?

Explain as you see fit.  Your point is pretty clear.

It's the tool between his ears that is keeping him from realizing his full potential.
Blackmon isn't seriously overrated. He was a true #1 in the making.

Your problem is you don't understand WR stats. If you're  having what you call "OK" games consistently throughout a season, you're a 1,000 yard receiver. Sprinkle in a few games where Blackmon clearly took control of the offense, and you're around 1,300-1,400.

If you're looking at box scores, go look at other WR's box scores. No receiver consistently puts up 100 yard games week in and week out. Sometimes an opposing team successfully contains a receiver. It happens.

Inconsistent? He was a rookie. Learning curves are big at that position.
