I said Tier-3, similar to Wilson and Big Ben who are boardline teir 2.

At the least, he will have to be playmaking "point guard QB" which is a tier much higher than "game manager" (which implys a QB who wins despite a lack of talent.) He'll need to be able to spread the ball to his playmakers, make big-time throws when he has the opportunity, and lead his team to comeback victories when he has too.

If the team around Bortles can't pull their weight, it's unfair to expect him to do it all himself, even if he is a 3rd overall pick.
lol would people please stop putting Big Ben and Wilson in the same tier. All you have to do is look at the season Ben had this year and then compare it to Wilson to see the difference.

Ben is a far better QB but I do think Wilson will get better.
Big Ben should def be in the tier 2 Ryan should be in tier 3
I have not been on this board for over 2 years, and after I have read through the Bortles pick reaction and now this reminds my why I have not been on here for so long.

Anybody that would not take the following from Bortles by age 32 is an idiot.

ive been saying for years that big ben is an elite qb. what real talent has he had on that offense? santonio holmes? hes been overrated since he was born. plaxico was there for a short time but didnt do much. hines ward was always reliable, very good player but not the kind of dynamic playmaker that a lot of the top guys have.

the only reason people put big ben so low is because they equate fantasy numbers with nfl value. just because he doesnt put up brees or manning fantasy stats.... he gets put in "tier 3." what a joke.
Blank #2 and corn are on a higher tier than all the rest combined.

If there were 10 tiers, theirs would be 11.

Quote:Second tier.

He doesn't need to be a perennial MVP caliber player, but he has to be a franchise QB.

Quote:You would be disappointed if Bortles became Roethlisberger?

I am lost for words. I would be down right ecstatic if that was Bortles floor, and he fell on it.

Yes, I would be a bit disappointed. While Ben is an ok to good QB, he's not elite.

Ben had great defenses and good players on offense that got him to the rings he won.

You say you'd be ecstatic if BB's floor was at Ben's. I would be too, because that would mean he's much better than Ben. I'm just not a fan of his play on the field.

Whether Ben won rings I think is irrelevant in this talk. Ben's play is too flawed for my liking.

uh, I think Brady had great players (Corey Dillion, Rodney Harrison, Seymour, Wilfork, T. Johnson, Vrabel, Brushi, Samuel)  and Peyton Manning had pretty decent players in Marvin Harrison, Reg Wayne, Dallas Clark, Saturday, Freeney, Mathis ....

I'm not so certain Brady and Manning didn't have better players then the Steelers during their SB years.

What about Rivers?  Would you take Bortles being equivalent to Rivers?   I'd be satisfied with either Ben or Rivers equivalent.   I would have taken an Eli equivalent if we can exclude 2013.   I'd probably take a Flacco as well right now since I do realize that he was eliminated from the playoffs in back to back years because of WR drops.  Houshmanzada vs Steelers (Jan 2011) and Lee Evans vs Patriots (Jan 2012).

very true plus Ben is clutch.

So you'd be disappointed anything short of Elite?

I like rivers play better than Ben's. No doubt about it.
