Quote:Who knows, but when asked directly if it was possible the team hires is next coach as a guy Dave isn't fully convinced of he said that's distinctly possible and that it was that way for Gus, which was quite the shock to myself. I always thought Gus was Dave's guy all the way. Really changes my perspective on Dave knowing Gus is on someone else, likely Tony Khan.

No, he did not say that.

He was asked about hiring a new coach, and whether he could hire someone he didn't have a previous relationship with, and he said, he did that with Gus. He had no previous relationship with Gus.

Then someone posted on this message board that he was asked if he would hire someone he didn't feel comfortable with, and that Dave had said, he did it with Gus.

But that wasn't the question. The question was, would he have any hesitation to hire someone he didn't have a previous relationship with. Not, would he hire someone he was not comfortable with.

Gus was Dave's choice. I remember Dave talked a couple of years ago about how blown away he was by Gus in the interview process, and how he recommended Gus to Shad Khan, saying, this is our guy.

In fact, read this. I dug this up from the internet.

"What Caldwell did tell everybody was hiring Bradley was a slam-dunk decision once they met for more than 12 hours on Wednesday."

and...

"But during a set of talks that lasted more than 12 hours, Bradley had a tour de force interview that earned him a job offer and a four-year contract."

"After the day with Gus, I knew our visions were aligned," Caldwell said. "It was an easy decision."

Thanks for the clarification.

If you skim enough posts and don't check for yourself, lots can get muddled.
I questioned that too, just because it would seem like Caldwell was shirking the responsibility of the hire and he doesn't strike me as someone who would do that. Unity in the message seems to have held throughout the whole Bradley affair and I don't see him making a public statement like that.

Quote:I guaranteed a win yesterday, I knew the players would play to their fullest.. Right now its about supporting your family.. Everybody job is on the line.. And they played like it.. It was a great game, I just wonder could this season have been salvaged if the move to fire Gus had been made earlier?

I think it could have, but there is no going back in time anyway.

Look at the positives, we will be getting a new (hopefully good) coach and another really high draft pick for him to work with.

Time to look forward to the next chapter.

It's not impossible that I misunderstood, but watching the stream of the press conference live it sure seems he was saying it wasn't his idea to hire Gus and I recall the people in attendance seeming quite surprised.

Still if anyone wants to go through the video and find the part we're talking about that would clear it up without any doubt.
I don't use reddit much but someone sent me the tacks game thread from yesterday with the comments going from start to finish.

Pretty satisfying seeing tacks fans react as their dream season crumbles into nothing.

This is one of the best reads I've had in a long time! Thanks!
My impression.....

Football was fun again. It sure was nice to see execution on a game plan, time management and creative play calling to pick at another team's weaknesses. You know coaching was back on the sideline.

Man, that is so funny! So many great quotes in there.

I like, "Blake friggin Bortles is carving us up like Brady."

and "[BAD WORD REMOVED] you, Ramsey."

And then there's this masterpiece:

[BAD WORD REMOVED] you stupid Jacksonville you lousy piece of [BAD WORD REMOVED] [BAD WORD REMOVED] wads jaguar [BAD WORD REMOVED] sons of [BAD WORD REMOVED] [BAD WORD REMOVED] city slug [BAD WORD REMOVED] thuggish brute [BAD WORD REMOVED] going for low blows stupid [BAD WORD REMOVED] bribe taking refs and [BAD WORD REMOVED] ever banks [BAD WORD REMOVED] field. [BAD WORD REMOVED] THIS GAME TO HELLLLLLL!

And this one is more to the point:

[BLEEP] [BLEEP] [BLEEP].

Very enjoyable read.
Thought you guys might enjoy it as much as I did.

Personal favourite was (after the Bortles TD catch) "This is nothingness, I wonder if this is what space feels like"

My sides hurt from laughing so much. That is about the funniest thing I've seen all year. You can cherry pick a thousand posts in there, and every single one leaves me rolling on the floor laughing. It starts out all Here we go, stick it up their behind, and it continues oh no, and don't worry, we got this, and then it goes blankety blank blank blank. It a riot.

Thanks for the post. When you overlay our thread the humor goes up to the next level. You get a bunch of what am I watching? What the heck on our thread. Shock that we are taking out a rival. It marinates well with the tears of a team that had something to play for at the end of the season.

Come on relevant football... be ours in 2017

Someone with more energy than me needs to take their thread and merge it with our thread. That would be better than a ribeye steak.
If we put a beat down on the clots next weekend in Indy I am all for Marrone and Wash staying on board with Hackett calling the offense. I'd still like to see Coughlin hired as a VP or somewhere in the office though.

Puts us in a bad spot fan base wise. You'd just hate to see somebody like Marrone scamper off to another city. Really disappointing that this move should have honestly been made LAST year when Bradley floundered down the stretch.

I started to do it but the copy paste was brutal. I really like the Ramsey discussions. It is good to have a game changing player again. Reminds me a little of when Brackens started pouring on the talent. I'd love a magical wild card run like we had then but you can't always have it your way.

All these struggles sure makes the little things with our football team more fun.

Ramsey comment that I can see being a thing typed over and over "See throw it at anybody else = completion"
Good comment on Bortles in 2016 from the Tacks

Bortles plays like he wandered in half drunk from a beach party, in a corona soaked wife beater with a [Bad Word] drawn on his face

EDIT:

I really hope we run an offense that can take advantage of guys like Brian Walters going forward. We should be able to sneak him in to really nice plays going forward. I hope they all work hard and can be a high functioning unit. Depending on what happens, I will mess Jerry Sullivan's work with our young guys.

I think Hurns would have gotten those passes if healthy.

I can't wait to see this offense play to its potential.
One of my personal favorites from that thread...

lol. How many of those posters would end up getting suspensions if they posted some of what I read on there in here?

They are very salty right now, very salty indeed.
