LOL. Our hope was lost back in October. The only hope that was lost yesterday is their play-off hopes.

I liked the reference to the 1999 Jaguars season.  Guy said he would give back one of the wins to pay pentence for yesterday.  Reminds me of the Marino curse in our threads.

 

Fandom is an interesting thing.

Firstly, thanks to Bullseye for all of his insightful analysis posts. I always look forward to reading them to get a true measure of game events. 

 

My take on why the team played so much better:

 

1) Marrone's insistence on professional behavior in team meetings instilled a sense of professionalism in the team. Yes, true professionalism means more than receiving a paycheck for what you do. We didn't see the histrionics that Bortles has been so prone lately to display on the field when a play goes bust. 

 
2) The confidence Marrone imparted on the team by his cool demeanor and measured management decisions on the sidelines. Having Myers kick a 56 yard field goal rather than going 4th and 1 for the 1st down being a prime example. There was none of the confusion and mismanagement that Gus was so prone to exhibit. The team, IMHO, for once felt like a true professional was in charge.

 

3) Immediate and professional corrective counseling with the coach over mistakes. Sheldon Day stood in front of Marrone and listened to his words. There was no hand around the shoulder pulling him in close while saying "I love ya man, but you just can't do that..." so typical of Gus.

 

To word to sum up what we saw yesterday is professionalism. The team on the field, and on the sidelines, did not give the impression of a frat boy outing but a practiced and disciplined organization.

As to your observations...absolutely right on all counts.

It looked and felt like a totally different team. Seeing them build small successes here and there  into a perfect storm of destroying a hated opponent....well.....It just felt SO DANG GOOD!

If we only won one game this year this would be the one.

 

Read through the whole tacks thread and it turned to total despair.

 

Can't wait until the first tacks game next year....it will be a barn burner.  :woot:

Same faculty that has been game planning all year. Listen to Blake and it was actually the same set of plays (that trick play was called every game this season, but checked out of). Same assistant coaches. Same players. They just minimized costly mistakes and executed better. It also seemed that the mistakes that were made didn't happen at the most inopportune time. You also should realize that the tacks, nor anyone else in the south isn't all that good.

The announcing team went into how much of a Life Coach Gus was to Blake.  They said Blake had binders of Gus'isms to share with a future son.  Cold cynical world me thought...  Jeez maybe he would still be here if he taught him how to QB in the NFL.

Same. Bortles I think had hinted at something to that effect earlier this year too. That he wanted to be coached on harder and tougher. Then you had Malik Jackson offer his two cents on the idea that a tougher, hard [BLEEP] coach isn't what this team needs in his opinion. To me all of that indicated that Bradley was wayyyyyyyy too soft on these players.
