Quote:It was the right time for an ownership change and the absolute right person to sell the team to. Thanks to both of them for their contributions to this team and this market.Agreed. I was skeptical at first, but I'm sold on what they're planning now. Having had an opportunity to talk to someone about the shipyard project last week, it's that commitment that fully convinced me this team isn't going anywhere.

Thank you Stan Kroenke.

Quote:We will have one of the coolest stadiums in the NFL. All respect to Weaver but this never would have happened without Shad.
Weaver deserves nothing but love for helping to bring the franchise here, but he didn't have the kind of resources to do anything close to what Khan will be able to do.

Sexton is filling in while they're waiting for Lamping.
According to him, we've come a long way from a couple of years ago when the team wasn't winning, and there was a lot of uncertainty over the long term future in Jacksonville. That has completely changed since then, and this London plan has really helped sustain the franchise here. There are growth opportunities not only for the team, but for the city.

Had to look that name up, but thank you Stan indeed!

Lamping is on now, and he's talking about how there's a lot of positive stuff happening on both the football and business side. Revenues are up, and their focus will continue to be on making sure the fans feel they're getting value for their season ticket purchase.
Everything will be ready to do, and the project will be complete by mid-July.

The Shipyard project is not at the point where they're ready to move forward, but it's close according to him.

Being a small market, they have to continue to push to be relevant, focused on evolving as a product, addressing the fan's evolving needs.

He really did do us a tremendous favor. It didn't feel like it at the time, but today? We got the right guy for this market.

Quote:You might be right, but I think the chance that he ever plays more than 4 to 6 games for us or anyone is extremely low. Do you know anyone with substance abuse or alcohol abuse problems? The person that overcomes those problems is the exception, not the rule. Money, in these types of scenarios, is just gasoline on a dumpster fire. And he's already been paid a lot of money despite his contract being written in our favor.
I actually know two people who overcame substance abuse problems. It's no easy task -- but it's certainly not impossible. My sister-in-law went through major drug addiction. She's clean now, and has been for more than two years. It may be unlikely that he plays again, but if he does -- I'd rather it be with us, than against us. Especially given his talent. Once he's gone, our 1st round picks from the Dark Times™ will have amounted to pretty much zero. Zip. Zilch.

What do they mean by shipyard project? Sorry I'm not a local.

If he comes back clean, and ready to move forward, the team would be better served to keep him. If they don't trust that he's clean, or they think he'll fall off the wagon, then it's time to move on. That's a call they'll make when the time comes. Doesn't sound like that will happen this year.
The way this program is structured is really stupid. This kid needs to be in a program, supported by the team and the league. Leaving him to his own devices is not going to produce the desired results.

Havent lived in town for 10yrs. Isnt that property just empty right now? If so, kudos to Kahn for snatching it up and doing something with it.

The land across from the stadium on the waterfront used to be shipyards. Those were removed years ago to develop the land, and over the past several years, there have been multiple plans to develop the land. In each case, the plans fell through, then the economy tanked, so we've had a vacant lot in a premium location that's waiting for someone to step in and develop the property.
There have been all sorts of ideas floated, but the latest plans are being kept somewhat quiet. Khan is the driving force behind the latest plans, and he has indicated that if they can't find someone to take on this project, he may do it himself.

I have no idea. Lamping mentioned practice fields could be involved.
If it ever gets developed, it will have to be some sort of commercial/residential mix.

Among other things they mentioned for the Shipyards was perhaps an indoor practice facility.

I was at UNF in 2001 when The Billion Dollar Mile was announced at the Shipyards. We all bought it up and had these grand visions of what that could be. 9/11 changed that.
