Quote:OK wannabe reporter. Do you have a journalism degree?

Are journalism degrees available at Popeye's? If yes, he might.
Quote:Rashaad Reynolds might be the steal of the draft, nevermind just the undrafted players.

Holy crap. I've been looking him up. How did he go undrafted??? What a steal.

yeah, but are we sure we signed him or did he "decommit" too, like an [BLEEP]...

Blankets receivers and has the ball skills of a 2-3rd rounder.  Also tackles very well.

If Colvin's knee gets back to 100%, and he is what they thought he was, this might be one of the better AFC secondaries next year.

Agreed. Only thing about him is he played off man, so not sure how well he does in press.. Kind of makes me wonder if we didn't bring him in to try him out at FS? He has great coverage skills and he tackles well, just doesn't run the scheme that our corners do..
Quote:Learn how reporting works.

This. Alfie's part of the new generation of reporters that wants to get it out out there first, regarless if it's factual or not. True reporting means being accurate and credible. Team websites around the league don't report player signings until the ink has dried on the contract.

It's ironic that Alfie says we don't know how UDFA works. Hilarious since obviously he's the one who doesn't know anything about it even though it's quite simple. They're FREE AGENTS who can sign with any team in the league. The team or teams make an offer then the player SIGNS with that team. After signed, that player is officially a member of the team. That's when it should be reported. Alfie wants to be first, not correct. That's the problem with "reporting" these days. If Alfie had gone to journalism school, he would've learned that in Journalism 101. If I were a reporter, I'd rather be the last guy to report something and 100% accurate than be the 1st guy to report a bunch of rumors.

Nailed it
If he went Jschool he'd always lead with tarps, tickets, moving to London/LA, and St Timmy.
Christian Jones agreed to sign with the Jaguars. I reported it.

Christian Jones changed his commitment and agreed to sign with the Bears. I reported that.

It happens all the time in undrafted free agency, which is why I kept repeating these are unofficial signings and players can flip where they're going over and over.

What should I have done differently here, Journalism 101 experts? What was inaccurate in my reporting of noted unofficial signings?

@AlfieBCC

I hate Christian Jones.  :verymad:  :verymad:  :verymad:  :verymad:

So again, what would you have done differently after acing Journalism 101? Not reported he changed his commitment? Not reported he committed at all?

Learn me, guys. I want to be better. What did I do wrong? Should I not try to find out who they're signing and just wait until the official press release? Lend me your journalistic expertise.

Sheep.

You guys are really making a big deal out of this? A dozen other outlets also reported it. Those of you "purists" are exclaiming that it shouldn't be reported until the ink dries, but you go to twitter for the latest breaking news... Just stick to jaguars.com if you want 100% accurate, day late news. Of all things to criticize others over... wow.
Why are people still worried about this?  It happens.

In the end this goes much further back to people's former disdain for Alfie (not saying that's right or wrong) from when he posted here regularly.

Does it really bother you that much?

Why even post this? You're obviously close-minded and think you're the best "reporter" out there. You're not open to suggestion and think your style of reporting is fine the way it is. So be it.

I actually admire the fact that you followed your heart and passion for the Jags and started BCC. That's commendable. However, your inability to be objective and rush to get things out there are obstacles between you and credibility in my eyes. I don't go to BCC for independent, objective views on the Jags. For years, you defended Reggie Williams and Leftwich and probably think to this day they were great draft picks. It's hard to reason with someone like that.

Don't take it personally, it's just my opinion as a fan looking for information about my team. You should care about fans like me if you want credibility. I'm your audience and the life blood of your site.
That's a mighty sense of entitlement for just clicking on his website every now and then.
Shack, I'm not bothered. I'm amused y'all care so much.

Hender: What should I have done differently? What did I rush in reporting a noted unofficial signing and then reporting his flip?

Suggest to me, the correct way to bring you all this noted unofficial news? Learn me. What is the right way. Explain. I'm asking you. Help me.

You guys seem to hold me on a higher pedestal than I do myself, which is flattering, but why so hurt? You guys can't move past 2006. It's 2014. I definitely sound like the close-minded one here.
