Quote:Apparently things aren't going great with Blackmon. They have given up on him for THIS year. Next year could be a completely different story. We're not losing a thing by holding him. He could be Short's replacement in 2015 if we can't come to terms with him.
Thats actually a good point about Shorts' roster spot.
TMD I agree with you. Lets wait and see how it plays out. Its up to Blackmon to get reinstated. Similar to Tanard Jackson in Washington. Washington kept him on the roster until he got his life together. They cut him after being reinstated then resigned him to a lower deal. I just hope Blackmon don't take long to get clean up like Tanard. He would be a monster with all the new toys we have now onfense.

If we can't have him, nobody can

I think Dave will end up testing the market for him and seriously consider trading him if the price is right. Cecil could be deadly in the slot though.
Quote:I am 99% positive Blackmon will be back.
He's got one more chance in the NFL, it might as well be with us.
The positive part is what's worrying

Thats right. 2 years suspended and they still retained him.
Suspending Justin past week 8 would also be extremely unfair from an objective standpoint. This was his 3rd strike so he was to receive a year suspension based on precedent and the league wants to rob him now of an additional half a season?
Quote:I still don't believe that Blackmon is done. Caldwell said he'd treat it like if they got him back it would be a bonus and thats exactly what he did. People act all surprised that we took 2 WR, but all that happened is Caldwell sticking to his word.
If the Jags release Blackmon after he's reinstated, they are stupid. He'll go on to be a stud somewhere else for free.
I think it more points towards us not wanting to pay Shorts a boatload to keep him then it is on Blackmon for sure being done.

Ha! Shorts will not receive a "boatload" at all, at least not here.
The Jags have nothing to lose by holding on to Blackmon, but I would be shocked if he played at all this year based on Caldwell and Bradley's comments. I just hope Blackmon can get his life together even if he never plays another down for us.
Sad thing is I try to scour the web to find anything about him and have yet to do so. Other than that accident he had recently you hear of neither hide nor hair of him, no local news, no helping kids, nothing.
Quote:Gets criticized for selecting under-talented choir boys throughout the last three drafts.
Takes a gamble on an incredibly-talented player with a checkered past.
Gets fired in part because the kid can't stay out of trouble.
It's not easy being Gene.
If you think Gene Smith got fired because of the Blackmon pick... well you really are clueless. Blackmon was the best pick he made as GM.
I don't see any point in releasing him either, he either plays for us (cheap at that) or plays for no one.

Should consider changing the name before you call others clueless, just sayin.............

They can't release or trade him until he gets reinstated anyway, so it's a moot point.
Blackmon is not addicted to meth people. He can beat his demons. Blackmon is a rare mega elite receiver. Why did we draft Lee? Because to contend for Super Bowls we need a heck of a lot more than JB. Don't give up on this kid.
Quote:Ha. What a tool, making jokes about domestic violence. I'm sure you're a regular Casanova with women. Blackmon will be reinstated and when he is he will get a chance to come in and compete. Unfortunately it doesn't appear as though it will be this year which is very disheartening.
You just wait! He's coming back! He's totally going to be great, y'all. Just you wait and see.
Quote:Exactly....or at all.
I'd never release him. Make him star here or nowhere.
Why let some other team get that kind of talent for free??
Exactly. If he flames out due to his issues, he flames out. It will be disappointing, but we can live with it. If we cut him and he turns into an All-Pro for Aaron Rodgers or something, that will be a tough pill to swallow.
He'll be reinstated this season, imo. Hopefully he straightens things out.

Just gonna quote this so maybe more people read it...
does anyone no what exactly the substance he abused was?
Because if it is pot, I think that is really ridiculous. The fact that Gordon is going to be suspended for the year for marijuana is asinine.
