Per rotoworld. According to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, the Lions have "made it clear" to Clemson WR Sammy Watkins that they're "very serious" about potentially trading up for him.
<div style="margin:3px 3px 3px 5px;font-size:12px;background-color:transparent;color:rgb(0,0,255);font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif, Verdana;">Rapsheet has been beating the Watkins-to-Detroit drum for two months, and the player himself obviously believes it's a real possibility. We're typically leery of reports that so strongly link a team and player this team of year, but there appears to be some genuine smoke here. It wouldn't be a sensible move for a Lions team with a strong receiver duo, but many holes elsewhere.
Yes this could be a smokescreen, and yes the Lions could be asking for a bargain by trying to trade up with us, but this is right up our alley if it's true. The Lions could potentially be trying to do what the Falcsons did when they traded up for Julio Jones and pairing talent like Watkins with Megatron. I think Mayock said we would have to get the Lions 10th overall this year, 2nd round pick this year, and the Lions 1st rounder next year for a trade like this to be fair..
</div>
The Lions have 8 picks. They have enough ammo to move up to 3, even if the deal did not include a 1 next year.
Buffalo, thought to be another team interested in Watkins, has 6 picks. They have superior draft position in the and second rounds, but they don't have as many picks this year.
It'll be interesting to see, if both are interested in dealing up for Watkins, how much each would be willing to give up to move to three.

Landing an additional first round pick in 2015 PLUS a 2nd this year would be a great deal for the Jags. They'd still wind up with a good player at 10, and they'd have some ammunition if they want to move around at the bottom of the first.
Quote:This would be a no brainer for the Jags
It would be, but I really don't see us getitng 10, 45, and a 1st next year for 3. I just don't. If they are THAT unfatuated with Watkins and we aren't willing to move easily (which I don't think is the case), and Bills are offering up a nice deal, maybe. At best, I see 10, 45, and either a 3rd/4th or 2nd/3rd next year. No way do we get a 2 1sts and a 2nd, at least imo. Didn't the Dolphins trade up to #3 last year from 12 and they only gave #42?
Would def take that. For me those picks would be used on manziel, Bridgewater, or Barr. Then a combo of like van noy and Jordan Matthews in the second.
I would not slide down that far without getting a 1 next year. That would need to be included for me to slide that far down.
Quote:I agree with the last part.
I'd do it.
10 isn't that far to fall while still getting a 2nd this year and a future 1st rounder
Evans, Ebron, Gilbert, Barr could all still be there.
To say nothing of the QBs.
Even though we didn't wind up with the first overall pick, I felt we'd be in a good position to either land top notch talent or be in a decent position to trade down.
It's looking like we may get a decent trade down deal.
That's one of the things you've wanted for years, TMD.
We shouldn't hear any complaints from you if they pull it off and get a decent price.

Can we actually pull it off first before we start with the I told ya so's....
As of right now, its just rumors.
If/ when we execute it, then we'll talk about eating crow.
I feel like something may happen on draft day with either the Bills or Lions. If we added a 2nd rounder we could literally knock 3 different holes off our list. 3 out of QB, LEO, OL, WR would be handled with quality starters.
Bridgewater at 10
Jordan Matthews at 39
Van Noy with the lions second.
Then those 2 firsts next season.... That would have me giddy as a school boy.

Bridge won't be around at 10, but I'd gladly take the above if he somehow is.
I'd trade down even further from 10 if possible to be honest. The talent difference from 10 to say 16 (Dallas) will be minimal. Plus this team has enough needs that we need more picks (preferably some for next year) to continue to mold the roster. If Johnny Manziel slips to 10, I'd love to do a deal with Dallas for them to jump ahead of STL at 13 (rumors have been circulating they'd seriously consider Manziel at 13 if he were there) and trade down again.

I agree with you.
If the Jags execute this just right, they could really set themselves up for both this and the next several years of drafting.
Please stop with the Anthony Barr talk

Count me in on this.

Not celebrating just yet.
Heck, if Clowney is somehow on the board at 3, I wouldn't WANT to trade down.
But if these rumors have legs-and trade rumors this close often do-we'll have a lot of choices.
And I didn't say anything about eating crow. Just saying if the Jaguars trade down and get compensated appropriately (certainly more than Oakland got last year from dealing with Miami), you should not complain about that.
You guys really think the Lions are gonna give us their next year first? lol

Barr would be a perfect LEO fit, he's just as explosive as Bruce Irvin, I think Barr might be a little bit bigger too. He has the explosion and hip bend to wreak havoc at that position.

Not complain about it?....Hell I WANT to trade down, so, I'd be happy.
Would love Barr, i like him better than Mack would take him at 3 if i could not find a trade partner
