"He reminds me a little of (Joe) Montana."

Some "anonymous scout" owes me a new keyboard to replace the one that just had root beer spewed all over it.

Manziel in a Jags jersey, as unhappy about it as I'd be, I could hand. Manziel being compared to Joe Freaking Montana is ludicrous.

I'm not generally a supporter of the Jags drafting Manziel.  However, after todays comments I was reminded of when we drafted Denard Robinson.

Remember the stories about Dimitroff knowing that DRob was DC's guy, that he would get him eventually?  Was that because of Denard's electric play in collegiate ball?  That is something that DRob and Manziel do share, of course from different positions, and with differing notoriety.

How much can hindsight steer DC's decision in this regard?  Taking a flyer on a guy in the 5th round is much different than at #3 overall.

The other thing that we should also consider is that DC probably had a 3 year plan coming into last year.  He would have scouted last years, and this years QB class to see who he would hitch his horse to, imo.  Waiting til year 3 is somewhat risky in todays NFL.  The reason I think this is because one shouldn't plan to be picking early after the first year or two, and that's where one would need to be to target a QB, really.

Most likely scenarios I see are taking a QB at 3, or trading back from 3 (6 to 15 position) and taking a QB whereever we land.  Trading back up from out 2nd round pick just isn't cost efficient

considering all of the other things he's said point to us taking a QB to sit on the bench and actually learn I'm gunna have to say nope

Quote:You got it FBT. Wink

Listen, I live in Jacksonville, I have season-tickets, I've lived here my whole life and Jaguars are the only professional team I follow. And so don't take this as a, "if Jaguars don't get Johnny I'm not a Jaguars fan". I will always be a Jaguar with or without Manziel.

Just take this as an: "I'm ahead of the curve". I know something/been told something apparently many on these boards have not. I say this as honestly and nicely as I can FBT, we are getting Johnny at 3, I've been told it's been planned for almost a year now.

So here's my deal FBT. If Manziel's is taken at #1 or #2, and we never get a chance, that's not fair, and I'm still here. Wink

BUUUUUUUUT, if he's there at #3 and we willfully pass on him and never trade back up for him, I'll happily say goodbye to these boards forever, you have my word. That's not cocky of me tho, it's confident. In particular, confident in what I've been told and the source who told me. If Johnny's there at #3, it will take WW3 for Dave to not take him. Mark my words.
Call me crazy, but... I believe you.  :thumbsup: You seem very convincing.  Plus I take these statements from Caldwell as preparing the fan base.  However! I see Clowney on the board (or some team giving up the house to trade up) WW3, to reference your reference

Don't worry, it all works out in the end.
Thats what Sam said. LOL!

Quote:Theres no way he takes Johnny at 3.
Hold that thought Jinjo.
Quote:That's some serious confidence. I'm rooting for you JJ!
Your a good guy knarnn. You'll be happy come draft day.
Quote:There was not many people melting down when we didnt pick Tebow, most people on the board bashed Tebow, people melted down on the board more so we over drafted Alualu and guess what, they were right and I was in that crowd it was a terrible pick.

I died a little bit that night

<p style="font-size:12px;font-family:Helvetica;">Here's a link since I'm too stooped to get the picture to appear.  It's an image ranking the QB prospects based on % of passing yards through the air.

oh okay, well then right click on the picture and find where it says "search google for this image". click on that and it will find the same image but from a different site. Then try that URL.

This forum just doesn't like some website urls for some reason. Try that tho scarecrow.

You're spot on Fred. It's been an almost constant smokescreen for a long-long time now in Jacksonville. We're a week away now though, and little nuggets of truth are deliberately being dropped from Jaguars brass, not so much for the nation or the pundits, but specifically for the fanbase. Perhaps just to temper some of the fanbase who have bought so deeply into the smokescreens thus far, that they think there's no way we get Johnny. Caldwell's latest lines are what we may call the anti-smokescreen for us.

</div>

<div>
Because by this point, with Texans and Rams picks fairly certain to not be Manziel, Caldwell feels a bit safer speaking like this, showing his hand a bit to prepare the fanbase. Reassurance if you will, that when we pick him at 3, it was not a sudden decision based upon hype or draft-day gitters. But that Dave and Gus have in fact believed he's the most NFL-ready QB for a long time now.
</div>

And I'm glad I'm 'convincing' to you Fred, I've got no reason to lie.  :thumbsup:

Before we get ahead of ourselves just as much as the Montana comparisons, realize that several have made this comparison of playing style.

Including Jerry Rice.

“The one with the most potential is Johnny Manziel, he reminds me of Cool Joe how he would always stay calm under pressure and find a way to bring his team back.”
