Quote:I didn't realize Joe Pa was Jerry Sandusky.

Dude, don't you live in that part of the country and you are still this ignorant?
Quote:There is nothing sanctimonious about my feelings about Joe Paterno.

sanctimous: Pretending to be morally better than people.

1. Hypocritically pious or devout.

I'll write this off as you misusing the word and not as your backhanded way of saying I'm morally no better than someone who failed to notify police about sexual abuse against minors.

Carry on.

Boy, that word fits you perfectly. Thanks, sometimes people need an example to make a definition more clear. I think you have benefited others greatly.

And shouldn't you be in Rome today? You seem to be well versed on the whole sainthood criteria.

So...Somebody who is morally opposed to child rape and/or the subsequent cover up of said child rape, gets sarcastically labeled a saint by you?

What next, you going to label me a prude because I don't shower with strange children?
It was a bad situation. Obviously Joepa knew something, but even if he didn't and it was totally under his nose, still the whole thing should have ended like it did, just for the fact that it DID happen under his watch.

New statue is stupid, unneeded. If any statue or memorial made, it should be a statue of the children or something akin to it, to forever remind the community there to not let it happen again.

10 bucks says the new statue gets vandalized the first weekend.

You are so smart.  Wink

Quoted for truth.
Quote:Even if he had no idea, which I think most people accept isn't or shouldn't have been the case, his time at Penn State is now defined by sexual abuse of children. It happened while he was the most powerful man at the university, therefore he bears some responsibility and building a statue to honor him is bad taste.

Well, as said, I'm not saying I'm for any statue of JoePa....I just think people act like they know all the facts in the case (regarding Joe and what he knew or didn't know/ or covered up or not) and they don't. None of us do. And again, what I really hate in all this is the REAL criminal, Sandusky, seemingly is forgotten or is seen as LESS responsible than Paterno. And no - no one is saying those direct statements - but the implication is strong.

The difference is, nobody is trying to sensationalize Sandusky by erecting a statue of him..

This is pretty funny coming from you. Facts are irrelevant in most of your arguments. All that matters is your opinion.

There's more than enough evidence to support the notion he knew what Sandusky was up to, and did little to nothing to stop it from occurring. Honoring a man who potentially allowed the abuse of children under his tenure as the head of the program is unsavory at best.

Its hard to argue against that. If Joe Pa indeed played a part in the cover up and he knew about what was happening then I would agree with the above. I still say that I sense more people having venom at Joe Pa than the actual perp, Sandusky, and that sickens me even more than some people putting up some statue celebrating Joe Pa's football accomplishments.

Covering it up, or turning a blind eye to it is just as bad as molesting the kids.
You know there was a major investigation, where it was reported Joe Pa failed to alert authorities when the issue came to his attention. Its not like people are just making this up...

According to Florida State fans, it was only alleged abuse at the time, which is okay.

Please dont bring that up. This involves kids and it has been proven in court. Joe Pa knew about it. That has also been proven.

I'm not an FSU fan, sooooo....

As far as the abuse goes, there's nothing alleged about it with Sandusky.

There were plenty of holes in the FSU story to make it alleged.

Stop it - the holier than thou persona isn't becoming.

Really going out on a limb there - being against child rape and all. That's my point - those True Believer types, you know, the ones who know The Truth, regardless of what they really know, want others to think that if you are not in agreement with them then you must be the opposite.

It's a lazy position taken by many. The thought that some people want to recognize some of the positive actions taken by Paterno in a long and productive life is just not allowed. The True Believers will have it no other way than their Truth. And if you dare saying anything otherwise you shall be Smeared.

Honest question:

What the hell are you talking about?

How has it been proven?

Today, that statement is correct. In 2001, it was alleged.

The holes aren't what makes it alleged.

Sandusky is in prison, he is being held responsible.

Paterno isn't. Obviously dying isn't his fault, but the full extent of his involvement will never be known/answered for and any punishment due will never be handed out.
