Or better yet... just google "what joe paterno knew"

No, I'm just giving you plenty of opportunities to explain how he knew firsthand of what was going on as FACT. In reality it was second and third hand allegations following previous allegations that never got so far as pressing charges. That is a big difference between knowing what was going on.
Quote:I explained it to you in the Winston thread. Not explaining it again. This thread is about how Paterno covered for his friend the child molester.

You didn't explain anything the first time. You just made a statement without any support.

Football is a crazy thing.

It causes people to make excuses for a man that covered up for a guy who COMMITTED FORCED SODOMY ON CHILDREN.

But the guy won a bunch of football games, so he is in need of defending.

Newsflash: Winning football games doesn't mean you're a good person.

There are plenty of ways to honor the good deeds that Joe Paterno did.  Continuing those deeds would be one of them.  Instead they choose to idolize the man -- which is part of the problem in the first place.  They put football before people.  People take college football too seriously.  So seriously that -- people often do cover up crimes for star athletes.  I'm sure some will say I'm being self righteous.  Apparently because I believe that sports players (coaches too!) should be held to the same standards as every other human being.  IMO -- which I'm 100% entitled to, and I'm also entitled to share, because it's not against the rules of the forum as far as I'm aware -- by building this statue they continue the problems that lead to Sandusky not being reported in the first place.  Whether by Joe Paterno, the Vice President of the college, or whomever.

I wonder how many of these people defending Joe Paterno now would be defending him if he were a terrible football coach who never won a game.

Good post.

I wonder how many of them would be supporting Paterno if it was their 10 year old being raped.

Our how many of those people that got raped want to see a statue of the man being put up.
Read the entire Freeh report and the State College Police reports.

The evidence is overwhelming and damming as to what Paterno knew and when.

From the first time in 1999 when a mother reports abuse by Sandusky.

It is investigated, yet the Centre County DA refuses to press charges.

A janitor eyewitness to rape in the showers in 2001 and reports it to his supervisor, janitor is a temp employee does not report and let go.

2002 a Grad Assistant coach witnesses rape and reports to Paterno, who does not call Law Enforcement, calls AD Curley and tells him a version of the story reported by the Grad Assistant, who is later questioned by Curley and Schultz. No further investigation.

It is not until 2010 that the Grand Jury hears the Grad Asst testimony.

Penn State covered up a decade of child abuse and yet the cult of JoePa overlook that he was a primary enabler along with the AD and President.

The conclusion of the Freeh report alone should prevent any statue, memorial or acknowledgement ever.

Yes it's harsh, but what he did was unconscionable.

You would think the report would have caused some to pause before erecting a memorial, but your point about this being the cult of JoePa explain why this is happening.

As disturbing as it may be, there are some sick people out there who would consider it an honor to sacrifice the innocence of their children for an opportunity to be linked to Paterno.
The JoePa apologist, I will never understand them

Agreed.  He turned a blind eye to this tragedy.  I'm betting the victims and their families would have a very different viewpoint from those alumni who want to erect a statue of the man. This just adds insult to injury.

I remember hearing Todd Blackledge on Mike & Mike two years ago after the NCAA penalized Penn State. He sounded so out of touch, you could tell Greenberg and Golic were uncomfortable. They basically cut him off before he could embarass himself even more.

I am normally not a proponent of vandalism, but if I was a parent of one of those unfortunate souls that were directly affected by this patently evil regime, I'd wrap a chain around that statue the moment it was put up and drag it down the street to the River.

Repeat as necessary.

No doubt that it would be a target of vandalism, and probably a pretty hot destination for it to occur.  I wonder if the alumni behind this are willing to foot the bill for the security required to protect their statue?

According to the article, it is being built in front of a restaurant in State College.

Who would want to eat at such a place?
Don't bother with altering the thing, just tear it down.

In reality he knew more than you seem to think.  There was an investigation.  You might want to look into it.

I think they should put it up and everybody should put their chewed up gum all over it.
I can't tell if this Penn St. fan is serious.

He is 100% serious. Go read a Penn State message board. Those people are as delusional as they come.
