Quote:That's good. I'm still not convinced he's trying to hold out, but if he is, it's beyond MJD levels of foolish.
He's an aging LT who hasn't played a full season recently and has 2 years at 8 mil per left. If he tries it, I wouldn't be surprised if he were cut.
Sitting out the voluntary is his only voice.
I agree... he'd be foolish to do something to get himself cut. He's not getting that kind of money on the market, and he's not getting anything more from the Jags.
If he becomes a problem, the problem will be resolved swiftly.
John Henderson rarely if ever went to an OTA. If that's all it is, I'm fine with it.

#Jaguars OT Brandon Albert isn't expected to be on the field today for OTAs, as he is hoping for an improved contract. The wait continues.
Who cares about the Branden Albert. This board is going down and the world is going to end.
I'm not expecting Albert to show up for any voluntary practice just like I'm not expecting the Jaguars to volunteer any kind of new contract for Albert. If Albert fails to show up for anything mandatory, he'll be stiffly fined and we'll have to revise our thinking.
In the meantime, nothing wrong with giving Cam Robinson all the early reps at LT he can get. He'll need them when it comes time for him to challenge Albert for the starting gig.
Quote:I get the business side of things, and he's a vested vet who will show up in mandatory sessions. Still, a dubious start with your new team, especially one that is relatively young and looking to forge leadership ties with players of his caliber. The lack of communication with your employer is dodgy too. Hopefully, he comes in, plays well, assumes a good role and make fans forget this in a pinch. Tis May after all. Older guys like him try to milk any off time they can muster. Remember Clem...
I bet the FO is wishing they'd had just re-signed Kelvin Beachum. He was serviceable, he was younger, and willing to play for reasonable money. I think the Albert trade was just TC wanting to show Caldwell who's boss by replacing one of Caldwell's guys with one of his own.

I think it was because they evaluated last year's play as a staff and it was clear that Beachum sucked in the run game way too often to justify paying him.

Tony Brackens never played a full season.
Beachum was horrible. 3rd team in 3 years.
Brackens played a full season in 96, 99, and 2000.

I really hope that some kind of reasonable deal can be worked out. It is true that Albert isn't worth more than his current contract gives him. Unfortunately, the Jaguars need him more than he needs the Jaguars. I realize that this is not what most Jaguars fans believe. I am sick and tired of our offensive line being so inept. Cam Robinson has the "potential" to eventually become a very good left tackle. However, he is not yet ready. Watch how Derek Barnett abused him. Barnett is a good pass rusher, but Robinson will go up against guys like this regularly in the NFL. Why ruin this guy's confidence when you have a solid veteran on your roster who can step right in? Robinson can be a very good guard right now and the team's running game should be greatly improved with the upgrades of Albert, Robinson, Fournette and whoever wins the fullback job.
I would not be against giving Albert a reasonable incentive if he plays the entire season and grades out well. If that is all it takes to get him into camp, it would be worth it. To those who say he is greedy and doesn't deserve another penny, tell me the name of one NFL player who isn't? At least this guy has made two pro bowls, which is pretty much more than the rest of the team combined.

I see no reason to freak out over Albert with some new contract offer. He talked about how excited he was to play for the Jaguars, etc, before all this contract talk, so he's good to go. When the mandatory stuff comes around, I'm confident he'll be there. If not, then we can freak out then, but not now.
In the meantime, keep giving Cam those reps.

you know, instead of our crazy knee jerk fans jumping off the wellsfargo/modis building, we should start just tossing players who piss our franchise off from the top of the building.
Lots of upside, one we keep a bigger fanbase because people stop dieing, 2: think about the insensitive it would put into players if they knew them sucking would mean they take one way trip down the 40 story building.
i mean the obvious murder part woud suck a bit i think the good out ways the bad here.
Side Note:what the hell was modis anyway

I agree! We should also consider throwing fans off with bad grammar, improper word usage, and spelling errors first though. Unfortunately for you, this would land you near the front of the line(massive upside by the way, major "INCENTIVE" to stop sucking at English). On average, this should also improve the fan base because only literate people will want to support the team. This plan would also improve our message board posts so I don't have to stare blankly at a post trying to figure out what on Earth I am reading or someone is trying to say... Or we can simply let people support the team the way they see fit, and leave our silly "playful" ideas involving murder to ourselves.
Yeah, that works too.
So when do we trademark Fat Albert?
Maybe we make it a sub forum for the new board?

Noted.
Was just trying to say, playing all 16 games is important, but when guys miss time here and there it's not worth pointing out in some cases.
A guy like Bob Sanders is definitely a case where missing games is a problem.
But your right he did play 16 games 3 years out of 8.
And 15/16 in two others years.
Bob Sanders was an interesting player though. Guy only averaged 7 games a year his career. The two years he played at least 14 he was Pro Bowler and 1st team All-Pro. Just could...not...stay....healthy.

I don't know what Albert is asking for, but I'm actually surprised they wouldn't add some guaranteed money against this years salary cap, given the amount of space the Jaguars have. While it impacts what they roll into the next cap, at least they'd have a veteran to teach Cam, and most likely start. LT is not a plug and play position, knocking a couple years of guaranteed money (maybe a third of his salary that accounts this year) isn't the craziest plan.

Agree with everything except the teaching part. If I was a starting LT playing for my family and wanting a starting spot, I wouldn't teach my future replacement anything that would jeopardize my spot.
That teaching and mentoring stuff is all folklore.
I know that sounds a bit harsh and cocky, but when millions of dollars are in front of players, it becomes all about the money. Hence why he's holding out or whatever he's doing.
At his age these practices wont make him a better player. But it would nice to start gaining chemistry with his teammates. But on the other side it's kind of nice that he is not taking reps from the younger guys that can actually learn from these mini practices and gain a bit of experience. Just trying to pick out some good in a otherwise negative story.
But its also not like this is a new thing old players skipping the summer stuff.
