Quote:Did it ever become clear why he was out riding around in the wee hours of the morning and had a crash?   Any details on the accident?

It really doesn't matter. If he wasn't doing anything wrong, let it be.
Blackmon will be back.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves. This would directly contradict Caldwell and Bradley's comments about "Leaving one of our own behind" the day his suspension was announced.

They're going to work with him and see to it that he gets it together. If not, he'll be let go for his own good, not because we're "fed up".

This is so depressing. The receiver I wanted for years, JB. We got him, he finally starts doing well then gets suspended, then tears it up, then get suspended. What a joke. So this pretty much means we are taking Watkins at 3, no ?

Don't be entirely depressed. Blackmon knows what's on the line this year

But that is the whole point of this post.   The fact is Caldwell and Bradley changed their position since the day of his suspension.  They are distancing themselves from thinking they Blackmon has a future here.

What sucks is we may have to waste a 3rd pick in the draft to get his replacement whereas if he were on actively on the roster as planned, we could use that pick with an impact player on another position.

Maybe this has been answered before, but how does he even get to the point where reinstatement can be an option? Does he have to meet with Goodell or something? Does he have to wait a certain time until he can even ask for that?

Yep, this is just strange.  How does a person get suspended indefinitely and not have any representation supporting reinstatement or at least a finite suspension term.  No appeal, nothing .... just kind of like poof he's gone.   There has to be more info that we did not get.

The only good news is that he's still in Jacksonville.  If he failed another test or didn't show up to another test after his suspension I'd figure that he'd just leave town and pull a ricky williams.

I'm curious to hear where you got that from, I've heard nothing like that. Not that I don't believe you, I've just been under a rock as of late.

There's really nothing to talk about for Caldwell and Bradley until Blackmon comes off of suspension though.

I think there's a 5% chance Blackmon isn't a Jaguar this year. You don't put something like "We're not leaving one of our own behind" in the media without truly meaning it. Otherwise, shame on Caldwell/Bradley for misleading Blackmon into thinking they were still on board with him.
There is a stipulation in Blackmons contract which states Jags can release Blackmon without owing him any $.   I'm sure Caldwell is weighing all the factors and will most likely await the decision of his reinstatement by the commish prior to the season.

I guess we'll find out in a month.  If the Jags spend a 1st or 2nd round pick on a WR, then the organization is not optimistic about the situation.   The actions taken in the draft will tell us everything.

Cut ties and draft Watkins, do it Caldwell

Someone gets it.

Or not cut ties and ddraft Watkins
We have nothing to lose by keeping Blackmon. Pick up the 5th year option to buy some time to see if his life is truly cleaned up. Then evaluate what the best course to proceed is.

There has been no new news though so whatever youre hearing is just talking heads changing their opinion with nothing to back it up

Don't think we should cut him.

In the remote chance he gets reinstated, he should only be our asset, not anyone else's.
Quote:Yep. And they have re-signed Brown, signed Doss and will likely draft at least one receiver.

The sad thing is you could tell last offseason the team was ready to make Blackmon the face of the franchise. And then he basically spit vodka in their face, twice.

A big no. The same reason why the niners aren't cutting ties with Aldon. If and when he returns, you want to hold his value or possible value. Instead of letting someone just grab him. We aren't paying him, so it doesn't hurt us. Also, this doesn't mean that we are drafting Watkins. It doesn't mean we won't either, but there are also other WR options later in the draft.

GO JAGS!!

Sorry. This is depressing. I,too, was happy to see this beast of a WR don a Jag uni. Then this stuff.

Now, when a see the word line, I jump to conclusions, like..a line of what; walk a straight line; line up some drinks; picked out of a line up.

Just want him to stay clean, and be the guy the team expected him to be.

Great point, he's a lost cause,

Signed,

In all fairness, it doesn't do Dave and Gus any benefit to proclaim they are planning on having Blackmon this year.  And in fairness to the radio stations, this is the worst time of the year.  There is nothing to talk about that hasn't been analyzed to death.

I have said it before and I will say it again, the Jags organization most likely, privately knows, whether Blackmon is going to be eligible to play this year.  I can't imagine a situation where the owners would hire someone like Goodell, then allow him to make decisions regarding their multi-million dollar investments while keeping them completely in the dark.  The whole idea of the team not knowing because Goodell is doling out the punishment and making the decisions without the owners knowing is just P.R.

I might be wrong, but, it seems unlikely the owners would ever agree to let someone hold this power over their head without their ability to plan for the future (i.e. knowing whether to invest a pick on the position).
