Quote:I guess we'll find out in a month. If the Jags spend a 1st or 2nd round pick on a WR, then the organization is not optimistic about the situation. The actions taken in the draft will tell us everything.
I don't think his status will have much impact on what we do in the draft. WR is a position where you can have multiple great players, and you can get them all on the field at the same time. If Sammy Watkins is the best player on the board when we pick, then whether we are going to get JB back will have no bearing on it. That's just my opinion.
Quote:We have nothing to lose by keeping Blackmon. Pick up the 5th year option to buy some time to see if his life is truly cleaned up. Then evaluate what the best course to proceed is.
There has been no new news though so whatever youre hearing is just talking heads changing their opinion with nothing to back it up
The only thing to lose is the gameday check that you need to pay him. Say, the Jags are 2-6 and Blackmon is eligible for Week 9-16. Does the organization say sure, let's pay him $2 million for the remainder of the year if he is not showing signs that he'd making every attempt to get back on track.
The dude probably has a minimum of $5 million in the bank right now. people like that don't have to think twice about paying $18 for a Grey Goose on the rocks or the $174 annual renewal fee for passes as Universal Studios. the man is already rich !!! does he change his life because he's committed to winning or does he sit back and think life is good -- only he can answer that.
Quote:Over the past months and weeks, whenever Justin Blackmon was brought up, the local sports talking heads would always say that we don't know when he will come back. The overall tone, however, was more optimistic. We don't know, it could be a long time, but he will be back at some point.
In the past 2 weeks or so, I've noticed their tone change. It's been more definitive in nature, saying "he won't be back... at all"
Now I know that they can't say anything for sure, but it almost appears that some "insider" people in the organization have made it appear that he won't be back, at all, at any time.
Sucks. I've heard it from 3 different radio people now.
Exactly 2-3 weeks ago 1010xl spoke about this after the owners meeting where they spoke with someone from the committee that handles these type of reinstatements. That person went into more of an explanation as to how the process works and from that conversation the tone of this issue has changed.
It is becoming more apparent that there really is no true time table. As he first had to ask to be reinstated, then go through the process, then get reinstated, then suffer any additional consequence after the fact.
This may take a lot longer than some are expecting. But it is the reality of it
Reading more post some people don't really understand what has happened which I think is causing confusion. This is not a typical indefinite suspension. This is how I see it; as a sabbatical for him to "find his self". Until this process is complete he them will file for reinstatement. Then the next steps begin. We are in the sabbatical stage so I would tell you gives to just forget about him for the near future.
It is sad to see the Talent that JB is wasting. Life is not always an easy journey and sometimes there is slippery moss on the rock that gets you out of the river. JB has to decide if he wants to want to deal with the slippery moss and firmly plant his feet on top and pull himself out of the river, or just simply slip away.
I have a hard time dealing with this situation because I would like to know if it was alcohol he was caught for or something else. The whole thing of not releasing the exact details kind of bothers me about the NFL substance abuse program.
Let's hope for JB sake and for the Jaguars sake that he decides to deal with the mossy river rock.
I would assume we should know something on this before training camp starts.
I remember back in the 2012 Draft, we thought we couldn't get Blackmon. Most people didn't want Floyd because of his DUI. Sadly, turned out that Blackmon was the one that'd have that problem (though I think Larry Fitzgerald probably has helped Floyd overcome his problems). Hopefully he's able to overcome it. He'd be a great addition to our offense if he's able to.
Have any other players ever been suspended indefinitely for DUI's and never been reinstated?

Stallworth had a dui manslaughter charge and came back.
Blackmon will be back, not if, just when, as long as he stays clean until the if arrives.

This issue is not him coming back though. The issue is if he as a man can mentally handle what he is going through. Stallworth just had a as night. Blackmon grew up in an area of the country where if your parent is around you are legally able to drink. Maybe that turned into a addiction maybe not but he has to figure out how to handle this issue before he can go to the next level. This is now a life issue not a football issue.

Thats exactly what it would be is wasted talent. If we did ever cut him New England would probably pick him up and he would legit get 1500 and 12 with Brady.

Killing a person would wear someone down mentally more than liking to smoke weed I would imagine.

He won't be eligible to play unless he shows signs that he is making every attempt to get back on track, hence the indefinite suspension.
Quote:I'm pretty sure the coaches aren't allowed to have any contact during the suspension. If they're calling or texting him, wouldn't that violate the policy?
I wouldn't read too much into what local media is saying at this point because they don't have any insight into his future status. That will be determined by the league. Until he appeals for reinstatement, we won't know anything about where he's at in the process, and neither will the local media.
To This I Agree.. It may simply be tha media trying to extract information concerning B14CKMON from the Jaguars.

B14CKMON has been suspended twice within the NFL... Meaning that his present suspension lasts an year... Isn't the third suspension Indefinite?

Other players have done a lot more and did less time. I think he will be back.

Draft Watkins......keep Blackmon....ya never know

With roughly a $3.3 million hit over the last two seasons, after suspensions, after taxes, combined with an extravagant lifestyle........Dude has nowhere close to $5 million in the bank.
I get your point, though. He is well off and set for the moment, but his money won't last him the rest of his life.

I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with extracting information from the Jaguars considering they have nothing to share.
Quote:Lol, I listen to 1010 all the time, and don't think their tone has changed very much. His opinion and mine are pretty different
I do too...and haven't noticed the change in tone either.
