<p style="margin-left:40px;">"If [Kyle] Shanahan does land a head coaching job this offseason, Shanahan could aim to team with his father, former NFL head coach Mike Shanahan, placing the elder in a football operations role."

This doesn't necessarily mean the GM role. As an assistant, Mike would be a great asset for any team, and the Jaguars would still have to approve any move. I don't see this as a reason to avoid a guy who might be the best candidate out there.

Jags02, I think you left a few names off. Holy smokes.
So now the rumor mill says Coughlin doesn't like Bortles.

And Marrone just won with Bortles.

and if he can do it again next week...

Bet money Caldwell keeps the coaching staff as-is with Marrone the new HC.

I wouldn't hate Marrone as HC.  He's not my first or second choice.  But he could succeed, given a free hand to choose his staff and system.

This is how I feel.

This isnt just based on one game either, he was good at Syracuse and solid in BUF. Brings experience that we need. Id orefer a few others but he beats the hell out of a Gus Bradley type coach.
Quote:If we hired McCoy, at least that would eliminate having to get blown out by him every year.

Seriously though, I think he's a decent coach.

I'm not sure if any HC would have the Chargers winning games with any consistency in recent weeks,  when factoring in their injuries,  and the mega distraction of their stadium situation.  When 85 % of the fans attending the game against the Raiders are rooting for the Raiders,   it's an uphill battle to the nth degree.

Mike McCoy probably will be an NFL OC in 2017.  It wouldn't surprise me if his coaching stock goes back up noticeably in the next couple of years.

But Caldwell said the next coach is not gonna be tied to Bortles. So we'll see. I am sure he is hoping he finds a coach who will agree that they can fix Bortles, but hopefully they actually listen to the input of the others in the search for a coach.

Because of 2 wins. The other 12 games we lost dont matter?

We dont want solid. We want greatness.

Gus was the head coach of the 12 games we lost, not Marrone.

I'd take Al Bundy. He once scored 4 touchdowns in a game for Polk High and was voted their most valuable player. He is also their all-time leader for rushing touchdowns.

Not saying it would be the right move.

I just think Caldwell might make the mistake of buying cheap hype on a team that is gonna over perform against average opponents.

I'm a little worried actually. I'd prefer us to go a different route, even if Maronne has these guys playing well.

I think the cupboards should be cleaned out.

Although... I'd take Maronne over some of the other rumored names.

Like Hugh Freeze, no thanks.

Actually, greatness is something worked for and attained.  It's not accomplished by getting the hire just right.  If we can get out of the slime pit of failure and gain the secure footing of being solid and professional, we may just discover greatness.
Marrone isnt my guy either. But, even if he qas on Gus's coachinf staff, it doesnt mean like anything will be close to the same. In week 16 we already heard about him changing a lot of things up and bringing a totally different voice and expectation for players (lot kore discipline than usual coupled with taking Sheldon Day pff the field after that roughing the passer penalty and talking to him). He'd be a very solid hire. Not my favorite, but experience and discipline are two things he has that this team sorely needs.
I think we go with Mike Shula, and I wouldn't be upset if we did.

The real question is, which coach has the connections to acquire the best staff. Look out for a guy Vance Joseph...well connected and respected

Mike Smith probably.

The Bills, after finalizing Anthony Lynn as their head coach, will make a push for Gus Bradley as their defensive coordinator
