Quote:Everyone who says QB is the biggest need for us and we should take one at #3.

No. The people who say take a qb believe that qb will be the answer to our qb woes. It's not just to take one for the hell of it.
Why is anyone taking anything from this?

He says a QB is the most important piece, which we all already knew.

Then he says we wont force one, which we already knew.

At least 2 of Bortles, Bridgewater or Manziel will be there, do Dave/Gus/Shad believe in any of those guys? We wont know until the day.

I prefer to acquire a franchise QB and allow him to get acclimated within the 2014 NFL season. If Caldwell chooses to do otherwise means that Caldwell & Co feels that there isn't a franchise QB available at the #3 pick. We could possible hope to attain one in the rounds of #3 or #4 but the likelihood of them being Capernick or Russell are slim to none.

W/that said, I also relish the thought of attaining a True Playmaker at any position that Will make an Immediate Impact...

This is also why I leave it to the Pros and accept whom we select no matter what...

NH3...
Hopefully if we do pick one at three, we'll have the courage not to throw him in the deep end (the signs are encouraging).

Still don't think we will though
Quote:Yes, isn't that something.   We would have tanked for someone we wound up not even wanting.   Oh, Jeesus, the arguments we had over whether we should purposely lose games for this once in a lifetime quarterback.   It was ridiculous.
It was mostly maddog kept spreading that garbage around

You must not read the internet then. Facebook is full of fans who want us to pull the trigger on one of the big 3 QB's just because we need a QB.
*** snickers as he watches the usual suspects box up their Teddy underoos ***

Its a select few on the Jags message board who think Teddy is Joe Montana, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers all rolled into one.  Sad but true

#TankforTeddy even though he will probably be there at 3 when we pick

No it wasn't just TMD proposing tanking for Teddy. This board was awash with Tanking for Teddy members. Where are they now?

If  Dave and Gus believe another player will help this team more than one of the 3 mentioned QB's at the 3rd pick then they likely have another QB on their radar coming out next year. They may believe it's prudent to wait on QB until next year or take one in later rounds this year who might develop.

I assumed no one ever read Facebook comments. My goodness those people are morons. I'm talking about on here where most people are semi normal.

The fact of the matter is each and every one of us as fans want the next Joe Montana or Peyton Manning there this year when the Jags step up to the podium. But to simply wish it doesn't make it so. It's kind of like saying the tallest midget of a group of midgets is a super tall person. We see the same thing every year, and I've come to notice that it's usually the same group of suspects who are guilty of the hype. I want a great QB. That one person will make this team great. I simply won't try to manufacture one in my mind. In fact, I really don't think about it too much at all. I figure part of the money I pay for tickets to a game goes to the salary of the guy who gets paid to know that stuff. Enough people who know a hell of a lot more than any of us say that there's not that player in this draft. Could they be wrong? Of course they could be. That's how Tom Brady was a sixth rounder like Terrell Davis. It's how Russell Wilson and Joe Montana were both third rounders. Nobody knows. What I do know though is that I have a job, and it's not watching and evaluating NFL talent 24/7/365. When they say that there isn't a sure fire great one available, I'm going to take their word about it over some blowhard on a message board. It's sort of common sense, really.

I was on the play dead for Ted bandwagon. I'm fine if they go a different route.
well good thing is...with Henne sinking the ship we should have our pick of QBs coming out next year...of course we will probably be in the same spot next year when some go back and some are no longer viewed as top 5 picks...

It doesn't matter if "the media" views those QBs as top 5 prospects next year or not. All that matters is that the Jags get their evaluation right and if he's their guy then you take him.
Quote:If they "get it," it would be one of the first times that would be the case for that franchise.  If they do take Bridgewater first, they're not exactly showing a stroke of genius.
That was my TMD impression.
I really hope all this means we can find someone to trade down with and still get Mack and some more draft picks.
This was pretty apparent when they gave henne 4.5 guaranteed 8/2 which has been said on here by some like a broken record. It screams late round guy who will sit but not 3rd overall.

Regardless of the round in which we pick a QB the plan seems to be to sit the QB for at least a year unless the rookie comes in and flat out dominates like Wilson did.

Taken from the comments of both Dave and Gus:

<a class="bbc_url" href='http://www.bigcatcountry.com/2014/3/25/5546450/jaguars-nfl-draft-quarterback-johnny-manziel'>http://www.bigcatcountry.com/2014/3/25/5546450/jaguars-nfl-draft-quarterback-johnny-manziel</a>

Quote:"That's the approach we're going into it," Bradley said when asked about sitting a quarterback for a year, even if it's a first round pick. "Now if we can create that environment, we can just see similar to Seattle. I know Matt Flynn was the quarterback. He was the guy. Russell Wilson got drafted, came in and there was no expectations on him being the starter."
Quote:"With this QB class, I think they're going to need a little bit of seasoning and to sit back and watch for a little bit," Caldwell told reporters on Monday at the NFL owner's meetings in Orlando, FL.
