If the draft fell like this. how would your draft look?
https://walterfootball.com/draft2017.php
1.
Jonathan Allen, DE
2.
Christian McCaffery, RB
2. Trade 3rd and 5th and round pick to move back in to the bottom of the 2nd and take
Pat Elflein, C
4.
Dan Skipper, OT
6.
Rasul Douglas, CB
7.
Freddie Stevenson, FB
This would be a dream draft for me
I can't stand the McCaffrey pick. That would be a complete waste. I don't see him doing anything in the pros. Give me D'Onta Foreman, Samaje Perine or Royce Freeman over McCafrey, any day. I love the Elflein pick, but I am almost certain he'll be gone by then. I don't like the idea of trading up to get him though. We end up losing a 5th round pick and we have too many needs to just be burning a pick. I'm not a fan of Dan Skipper either. He's had some really rough games this year and looks to be an inconsistent blocker. I'd much rather get a more consistent player, since that is one of our biggest problem areas. I know very little about Douglas. I haven't scouted the CB's as much as some other positions, but I love the Stevenson pick. We've needed a blocking FB for a while and he's one of the best in the draft.
Overall, there is a lot of hit and miss in this mock.

what makes you think McCaffrey wont do anything in the pros?
I like McCaffrey. Gives our O another dimension.

He has good vision, breakaway speed, an elite pass catcher, and a elite kick and punt returner. Not sure what there is to not like. The only ones i have seen not like him say they dont like him cause he is white and went to Stanford like Toby. Although him and Toby couldnt be more different as players

Its because his performance last year was so good compared to his performance this year. He doesn't really have momentum if you know what I mean.
But yeah he's the real deal. We havn't had a guy like him since MJD.

I don't mean to sound racist and I don't consider this racist, because I'm white too, but seriously. When is the last time a white RB has done anything in the NFL? John Riggins was the last significant true RB who was caucasian and that was in the early 80's. Every few years, a white RB gets drafted and draws some hype and then they flop in the pros. Remember Toby Gerhart? He came from the exact same Stanford system. I don't want some "novelty" at RB. I want someone with the potential to be a star at the position. It's time to get serious. This draft will be loaded with big, fast RB's and we can't afford to pass on them. I can almost guarantee McCaffrey will be an NFL disappointment. This is not like the black QB debate. Black QB's have proven they can successfully play in today's NFL. Caucasian RB's cannot.
McCaffrey has Patriot written all over him.

I dont care if he is blue. I dont look at the color, i look at the skill set. Dont care what happened in the past. He reminds me of Marshall Faulk, i think he will be a great back. Its also in his blood, his dad was Ed McCaffrey who was a pretty good player himself

*sigh* 1)Toby Gerhart played a very different role to McCaffrey as a running back. They are not in any way similar and the scheme is only the same in the way that its mostly a pro-style scheme.
2) Skin colour has absolutely nothing to do with success. What matters is how they perform, what their traits are and what makes them tick. Its not racist its just really dumb. Marquette King is a black punter, one of the best in the league, is he good in spite of his colour? No he's just a good punter, his skin colour is completely irrelevant.

i say Foreman has Patriots written all over him. They try to find the next Blount.
Years and years ago people said black quarterbacks would never be any good in the NFL.

His father was a good football player, as a
receiver. Say what you want, but recent history tells us the game has changed and it's just a fact that caucasian RB's just don't succeed in the NFL.
Why not just sign Woodhead?

They were both hyped and came from the same pro style college system. I heard the same arguments about Toby Gerhart when he came out. People thought he was going to prove history wrong as well and it never happened.
Skin color has nothing to do with success, unless you are talking about the RB position. It is the exception to the rule. We're not talking about a punter. We're talking about a RB. There are very, very few black punters in college. It's not that they couldn't punt, it's that there is a lack of them. On the other hand, there are quite a few white RB's on the college level, but for whatever reason, the last really successful caucasian RB in the NFL was John Riggins in the early 80's. I'm not making this stuff up. It's what history has shown us. I don't want to gamble and go against history, when this is a very deep RB class with several guys who are very low risk and high reward players who would be much, much, much safer picks.

If that happens, it will just prove what a well run franchise they have.
Quote:Years and years ago people said black quarterbacks would never be any good in the NFL.
Again, this is not the black QB debate. It's already been proven that they can be successful QB's. This is about white RB's and there haven't been any successful caucasian RB's since the early 80's though. Am I wrong?

I'm black, and I think there are many whites who could play RB or CB who get switched to other positions, based in part upon racial presumptions.
Yes, Gerhart was a flop, but Mike Alstott did well as a FB/one back.
As for McCaffrey, I question his ability to run between the tackles. He strikes me as a less glamorous Reggie Bush. Not because he's white.
I think he would be a tremendous asset to a team with a creative or pass heavy offense, like New Orleans. But if you are looking for a between the tackles, move the chains type, I'm not sure at this point if he's the guy. I might be swayed if, by the combine, he adds another 10-15 lbs and still retains his speed and quickness.

Exactly the same kind of logic.
Why do you think there havn't been any majorly successful white running backs since the early 80s? Considering there were a ton of great white running backs during that time. Do you think white people just got bad at running the ball? No of course not. Skin colour doesn't matter, performance does.
Marquette King is one the best punters in the league, by your logic the Raiders should have completely ignored him because he is black and there has never been a good black punter before.
