You have to take everything these guys say with a pinch of salt at this time of the year, but frankly anyone who thinks the team should take a QB in round 1 regardless of whether the team thinks they're worth that pick is a fool. Anyone who thinks that and criticised the team for drafting Gabbert is a fool and a hypocrite.

Quote:Says we signed Henne with intention of building around him and giving him the starting job and having whatever QB they draft "down the line" sit behind Henne and learn.Because if I were a GM talking to the press on the first day of free agency, I'd totally be all, "Oh, yeah, Teddy Bridgewater is at the top of our draft board, and our plan is to start him immediately."

Its brilliant actually. If people actually buy the Henne signing as him being secured as the starter, DC is using that to his full advantage.

a developmental qb to sit behind henne, all signs point to caldwell drafting logan thomas

Some of you will never learn. Its all coachspeak/GMspeach.
This was tweeted on march 7th:
@ESPNdirocco: Bradley says Gabbert has a chance to compete and beat out Henne or any other QB that's in OTAs/training camp.
What happened today?

This may seem like a foreign idea but sometimes even 1st round QBs sit for a bit. With Henne on a 2 year deal we certainly aren't looking at a long term development type deal.

Keep in mind Caldwell will try his hardest to give the impression that we are set at QB with Chad Henne.
It will make teams less likely to leapfrog us and potentially draft a QB right infront of us at @2 overall, or even in the 2nd round.
It's what a good GM does.

Caldwell is young...but he certainly knows how to speak GM.

I like when Vito asked DC if the 9ers originally offered a 7th DC replies with " No Vito, they offered a 1st" lol

Completely agree. They've been trying to temper such unrealistic expectations for quite some time now. This is a sit and develop draft class.

You mean since March 6, when you rejoined under your new name, right?

Quote:Caldwell is a smart guy. He knows that a third overall pick is too valuable to just throw at an average QB prospect. This draft is full of average to slightly above average qbs. Caldwell won't overspend on one of those guys.

Says we signed Henne with intention of building around him and giving him the starting job and having whatever QB they draft "down the line" sit behind Henne and learn. Definitely doesn't sound like something he'd say if we were drafting a QB the 3rd overall pick. All signs are pointing to Khalil Mack.

Mettenberger and Thomas would be very nice. Two in the hopper, one being on the mend. Garoppolo/Thomas, McCarron/Thomas, Murray/Thomas... Though, I'm afraid Thomas may be overdrafted for his ridiculous measurables.

Seeing that the defense and o-line is being built up through the free agency
Bridgewater is most likely the pick #3

I'm hoping the above is just Caldwell actually being smart and
