Quote:Uh, he'll be 29....how many NFL DE's "break out" at 29 when they've been nothing more than a cog their entire careers??????
granted not many but it's certainly possible and for a cheap enough deal it's really not hurting anyone.

Well he had a pretty good year last year. It is a low risk signing. Is it a bad signing? No. Does it keep us from signing anyone else? No. So what's the problem?
Quote:If he's cut, he won't get the 15 million. We have the cap space, and he's easily a top 5 corner in the game, so what's the problem?

ding ding ding ding.
Quote:If he had drafted him he would've been fired by now.

Did you see how Eli did this past year playing in a dysfunctional offense?  Quarterbacks are products of the teams they play for.

Chris Clemons did.

Under Gus Bradley.  He broke out as the LEO.  That is what Willie Young would play for us.
You guys think Revis is coming for much cheaper than his current deal?

If you do, you haven't been paying attention to who Revis is.

Every year there's a contract dispute.  Every single year.  Every year there's some kind of trouble with him.

Jason Babin as well.

dude just give it up.

So, 3 QB sacks now qualifies as a pretty good year? You can cite "pressures" all you wish, pressures can still result in 1st downs. QB sacks end the play or directly force turnovers. This team has had issues getting TO the QB.

This player is a lesser Babin and might not even be on Jeremy Mincey level when it comes to getting to the QB.

Lets call it for what it is and is only. A depth signing.

I'm pretty sure Chris Clemons topped out over 3 QB sacks before he was 29. Probably significantly more.

Again, Jason Babin wasn't as low on the totals as Willie Young.

We will see. That's why they play the game.

3, 2, 8, 4, 3

yearly sack numbers before coming to Seattle under Bradley and having 3 straight 11+ sack seasons.

I have given you a player that fits what you asked for TO THE TEE.
Not paying a player past his prime 10+ mil a year that doesn't even fit our system

Ok , now list Willie Brown's numbers....0, 3, 0, 0, 3? or something like that. Clemons put up an 8 spot that illustrated higher end potential.

You asked name a player that broke out at the age of 29.

Clemons did.  End of story.

He was a nobody before playing in Seattle.  If you're gonna deny that fact, I can't help you.

I'm not claiming Brown has done anything worthwhile in his career or that he WILL break out.

But is it possible?  Yes.  Does Bradley have personal experience with getting the best out of pass rushers?  Yes, as evidenced by Clemons.

So what exactly are you arguing?

Caldwell is magnificent.  You guys are really going to enjoy all of Henne's batted down passes.

His name is Willie Young, not Willie Brown for one...

3, 0, 3 is his numbers, and according to PFF (which you seem to hold highly according to our Beadles discussions earlier) he was a top 15 4-3 DE if I remember right. This defense would fit him even better as well, he would also work with coaches that would play to his strengths and are known for building up players. He would fit in well, and he definitely would have the potential to bring some nice sack numbers.

Sure, you named one, albeit one already on a higher, much higher level than Willie Young. Its "possible" Willie Young could, just as its possible my toaster might start shooting out $100 bills in the morning at breakfast, too.

I'm arguing that Willie Young is nothing more than a cog. Its a "meh" signing. Period.

I'm not. I cannot stand Gabbs or Henne.

I'd have went elsewhere for the veteran QB than Henne. He's terrrible.
