For me it depends on your needs as a driver.
For example anyone living out in the country especially in the North with tons of snow needs a reliable 4 wheel drive vehicle like a JEEP!
If you live in florida you probably want something that is great on gas mileage like a hybrid

I had a Camry hybrid back in 2008 i think it was and it was a great car for the money.
Just saw an ad for the new VW Golf (2015 model)....
If they have decent gas milage, and its a good suspension, that might be the car I get.

I had a Camry hybrid back in 2008 i think it was and it was a great car for the money.
You can get a Camry Hybrid, few years old, low mileage, for around $15-16k.
If I were to purchase a 4wd, it would be a Tacoma hands down. The reliability can't be touched.

Scheduled services usually include an oil change. That's how proper dealers service cars.

You still need to have the filter changed at 5k if you go the full 10k between services.

On the 2011 Jetti TDI the filter doesn't have to be changed until the oil does. Dunno about other model years. And yes to TMD, oil change is part of the regular service the dealer does.

That's a cartridge filter they might not tell you HAVE to do it but I've seen it a dozen times those cartridge filters break down around 8k miles. Ask to see yours next service you'll see what I'm talking about.

You made me curious, so I went back to my service invoices to check. Apart from the 30K service, the only parts listed at the 10K intervals were a filter element, the engine oil, and on one occasion, a screw.
The 30K service was different, in addition to the above, they listed a cabin pollen filter, the engine air filter and a part-B numbered filter element (not sure what this is, maybe it's what you are referring to, but the service interval on those puppies must be around every 30,000 miles). Going to have my 60K service shortly so I'll check to see if they change it again.

The service guide tells you to change it every 10k miles on the TDI I'm just telling you from experience I've seen it a dozen times at about 8k those cartridge filters start falling apart. Heck just last year I had a Volvo (they also do 10k service intervals) with less than 90k miles on it come through with a blown engine. He had been doing the services at 10k like recommended but after his last service his filter completely fell apart and he drove about 500 miles without an oil filter that was it for the engine. He had the records where the service had been completed they changed the filter and everything. Volvo told him that because he didn't change his oil at a Volvo dealership, it was a Tuffy or something like that, he was out of luck.
I've personally gone to change cartridge filters at about 7k miles and they literally fall apart in my hands. Those rubber seals that go around the cartridge filter also get brittle and start to leak out of your housing assembly.
It cost roughly 30 bucks to change the cartridge filter out, maybe less you could honestly do it yourself. but that extra step makes SO much difference in the longevity of a car.
Remember the dealership service guide is just a guide, it doesn't factor in recalls after that guides printed, known problems that always come up, extreme temperatures or road conditions and so on. It's not a bible it's just a guide. Honestly those things are written by engineers that want your car to last just long enough to get out of warranty. It's a minimum guide at best.
The Part B is probably you're brake fluid, on the TDI at 30k it's an oil and filter change, Cabin and Engine Air Filter and exchange the brake fluid.
heads up at 60k they do the the same 30k service + the Fuel Filter and they'll tell you to change the Tire Pressure Sensors. If yours are working DO NOT do it! There is NO reason to change working Tire Pressure Sensors but VW LOVES to change them at 6 years or 60k regardless. It's easy and quick money that's why they do it.
Volvo sounds like they suck then.
I've always changed mine myself at 2500 miles. My Kia says 7500 or 5000 in bad conditions. I go with 5000 and I feel real leery about it.

PLEASE don't go 7,000 between Kia Oil changes! And for the LOVE of GOD make sure you change the Timing Belts on time that's my only gripe with Kia's. I swear they have timers on those belts at 61k they just go POP and it's game over.
edit: 5,000 should be fine, it's the new norm most dealers are saying 5,000 and it has to do with standard oil being a blended synthetic these days.

I go full Synthetic, Mobil One. Changed at 1000 miles, 2500 miles, 5000 miles, 10,000 miles and just changed at 15,000.
