Me Personally I think you just can't get a better car then the 2000-2004 Toyota Camry's aside from the issue they had with false Catalytic Convertor codes (not an issue if you live outside of inspection states) they're almost flawless cars.

$30,000 for a car isn't that much.

Maybe I should've prefaced that with the part about me living in rural Colorado. Aside from all the obvious problems with the Versa, and the fact that you get hosed in California when buying a car no matter what (where I bought the Versa), that Versa was like a drunken Brian Boitano when the snow rolled in. The combination of weaksauce engine, crappy OEM tires, a lightweight car and FWD made that thing completely unstable on ice.

 

Then there was the whole "I paid $10k more for a car in Colorado and my payment only went up by $50/month" deal. Did I mention how much I hate California?

Bingo. The hype about Subarus breaking down has yet to prove true for me, and the local mechanic (independent guy) stocks all of the Subaru-specific parts at prices about 50% less than the dealership ten miles west of us wants. I had issues almost from day 1 with that Versa.

Agreed on this entirely. The smart way to do it is to pick the features you need, then price it. If I'd had more time, I could've driven into New Mexico and gotten a similar Subaru for $2k less...there's a bit of a premium on the brand here, because it's such a forgiving car in ice and snow.

For a Bugatti Veyron? No, not much at all. But if you're just looking for a daily-driver from point A to point B, you can get a certified pre-owned car with most or all of the features you need for under $25k. If you start throwing toys and sunroofs and whatnot in there, it gets more expensive quickly.

I rock a Kia Soul. The stereo isn't quite all it was hyped up to be, and there is one rattle that drives me absolutely nuts, but overall I like it.

I bought it more with my son in mind (cheap car, great warranty), but until then yes. I travel around the state a lot so the mileage is a boon.

Haha if your in Colorado then yes avoid the little Versa I doubt she'd get up to many mountains! As for beautiful flat and sunny Florida..........

For the record I drive an overpriced Silverado so I've got no room to talk on spending to much on transportation.

29, nothing spectacular. My truck gets like 13 though, so it's definitely better than I'm used to.

I drive a 2004 Buick Park Avenue PGA Tour edition. It's got 128,000 miles on it and I've replaced the air ride suspension shocks ($800) and brakes ($260) total. I love big, smooth, quiet riding cars. I only put synthetic oil in it and change it every 6 months (about 10,000 miles).

I"m an engineer and worked in the auto industry for 8 years in the assembly plants and can tell you auto companies DO NOT build cars for the ease of repair. Absolutely, positively, NOT! They build cars to get through the assembly line as fast as possible. Their customer is not YOU, their customer is the dealer. When that car leaves the assembly line it's sold to the dealer, not you. Oh, yeah, they want you to believe it in all their commercials, but it's not the case.

 

I've been sent to dealerships at the company's request to mediate an end-user's complaint many times and the bottom line was always to make the dealership happy, not the end-user. My first encounter with the dealership manager before we talked to the end-user was to ascertain from him whether he wanted the end-user to be a repeat customer. From there we proceeded to tackle his issue and my decision was always in accordance with the dealership's preference.

I would have got one of those but they don't make them that boxy anymore. When they came out they got way better mileage than my Kia does.
