He was like $2mil in dead money, but letting him go even with the dead money saves $3.7mil in cap space. He's average when he's healthy so he should be picked up pretty quick.
Errbody thought Kalif Barnes was finished when we let him walk, but he just signed a contract extension in Oakland so you never know.
Gonna have a whole new interior O-line next year. Good move. Get new players that fit the scheme and are younger, stronger, nastier, and healthier.

Barnes was a decent player but was also a first class turd. If not for his off the field issues, I think he would have stayed with the team.
Quote:Definitely agree. His play slipped a lot the last two years and he had injuries. But he was one of the best guys on the team. Always a class act.
^This. Uche was a cool guy but in the end business is business and I hope he finds a spot on a good team somewhere.
Quote:Saves a little cap space. Uche was a good guy and all, but it's still a business. Good luck.
I don't think it has anything to do with saving cap space, Uche simply didn't perform at a high level, he struggled mightily the last 2 years, an upgrade is necessary
.
Thanks for the good times Chuckwu77.
Thanks for the effort while here and good luck to him. Nice guy who will probably be picked up quickly elsewhere.
Caldwell sure as hell isn't afraid to trim the fat.

I like it, he's creating a competitive atmosphere, it will change the culture in Jacksonville
I'm surprised but glad and while Uche was are best Interial offensive lineman last 2 years. Its pretty obvious the oline needs to get better. I'm excited to see who are gonna be 3 new starters. Go Jaguars
I feel bad whoever plays QB for us this year. No starting guards or center.

Well, yes he has struggled but it also saves 3.7m in cap space.
Cutting Babin is reported to relieve 6m off the cap as well. That's almost 10m for two below average players, which can be money to sign a big-time pass rusher/premium position player.
I think you can expect to see the team actively pursuing guard and center talent in free agency. They won't roll the dice on that entirely through the draft.
Good luck to Uche. Good guy and great teammate! Hope he goes to a contender.

Agreed. I also think we have to many holes for them to spend more than 3 picks on the offensive line this year, also considering they spent the #2 overall pick last year on a LT.

I think this is a good sign. So far he hasn't done anything crazy, he hasn't let anyone go that makes me think "WTH is he doing that for?!"
He isn't afraid to move on from a guy and he seems very confident in his plan and the teams goals going forward. I like that. Gene always claimed to have a plan but the longer he stayed here the harder time I had seeing his vision. The harder time I had trying to visualize that plan. Basically Gene said a lot but never seemed to really follow through with his words.
Caldwell appears to be the polar opposite of that and I hope it continues. I'm not crowning or anointing Caldwell but I do like what I'm seeing. The guy has been very open and the attitude he and Gus have created with the franchise, in only ONE year, gives me a good feeling.
Average player who hung around due to our more pressing needs. Also at 29 and his salary it was time to go. Wish him the best.
Lou Brown: Jesus, this guy hits a ton, how come no one else picked up on him?
Duke Temple: Alrght Eddie, that's enough fastballs throw'em some breaking balls.
