He may be asked to come back at a cheaper price. I can see Caldwell getting some free agents to fill the line because if you are going to spend your first round pick on a QB (presumably) you better have a solid line to protect him.

Considering the season starts tomorrow, I think we are doomed.

Were All Gonna Diezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
First surprise cut, we are gonna have 3 new interior linemen, our starting 5 on the OL will have never played together wow

Next Man Up !!!   Drew Nowak.

We Don't Rebuild, We Reload !!!

Well it's one thing to Cut Uche, but I sure hope we actually get an UPGRADE, not just plug in a guy like Nowak who may or may not be better but could very realistically be worse.

We will need to spend some money to get a guy that's better than Uche, that's for sure.

Quote:Uche has been a weak spot for a while, not surprised at all.

Yep, I tried telling people this a long time ago...

but, but, they said I was "just being negative" and "trolling for responses"....

Agreed. Hopefully we bring in an upgrade and not just a cheaper option who's bounced around the league.

Guaranteed at least one of Schwartz or Asomoah is a Jag before too long.
Competition is the key with Gus.  Bring in guys and let them compete every day in everything they do.  The culture has been established.  I always liked Uche.  Smart guy with good leadership skills.  He was a vocal leader of the OL unit.  IMO this move was made to bring in more agile interior linemen who better fit the zone blocking scheme that the new regime desires to implement.

I am on record as liking Uche. I don't think he was elite, but he has a lot of heart and is a great locker room guy. I understand guys wanting an upgrade. My concern is that we created a hole where there wasn't a glaring need. LG and C were glaring needs. Now we need to supplement in FA and the draft. Yes we have the cap room, but now we need to address another need as we obviously have not had the depth. I won't cry over the loss of Uche, but regardless of his price tag he was someone you could plug in as a starter. Rackley has been awful. McClendon serviceable. Brewster pathetic. We may overspend in FA now as agents know we are desperate. Or we now have to alter our draft strategy to address this new hole. Uche will be picked up somewhere quickly. He isn't nearly as bad as some have made him out to be.
That situation will be remedied within the next few months.

Exactly. We need to open up the wallets and pay these top guards on market.

LOL!!!  Love the optimism.

Quote:Well looks Like our o line is going to be completely revamped after uche just got cut and I'm loving it

He was a nice guy, and one of the few players that interacted with us fans on this message board but it is a business and he was below average a good backup at times but I guess they wanted to go in a different direction.  Good move, sad for him though.
The release creates a net cap savings of $3.7m in 2014, and $5.9m in 2015. It also saves about $4.5m in each of the next two seasons ($9m total) in Khan's actual cash flow dollars (roster bonus plus base salary). Caldwell now has minimal money committed into the interior OL, freeing him to commit there now (and not taking away cap from other areas). He is better positioned now to go after a good interior free agent (or two).

On a side note, Uche is a tremendous guy and wish him very well.
Love the guy, but he is an average player at best. And that is IF he is healthy.

Good move Dave.

Hoping they go after 1 or 2 free agent OL.

Hoping?  we better.  Otherwise it's sabotage.
Quote:We could upgrade at every position on the line except LT.
Um? At this point I believe Paztor at RT has proven more than Joeckel has as a LT. So I'd say the only position we don't need to upgrade is RT and LT
