Quote:Lou Brown: Jesus, this guy hits a ton, how come no one else picked up on him?
Duke Temple: Alrght Eddie, that's enough fastballs throw'em some breaking balls.
Cerrano: Bats, they are sick. I cannot hit curveball. Straightball I hit it very much. Curveball, bats are afraid. I ask Jobu to come, take fear from bats. I offer him cigar, rum. He will come.
Harris: You know you might think about taking Jesus Christ as your savior instead of fooling around with all this stuff.
Dorn: [Bad word!], Harris.
Cerrano: Jesus, I like him very much, but he no help with curveball.
Harris: You trying to say Jesus Christ can't hit a curveball?
Hats, for bats. Keep bats warm. Gracious.
Whoa, amigo, you can't ju......
Considering we can get an upgrade in FA for not much more it's a smart move. Now we definitely have to sign 2 FA interior linemen I think.
I'm afraid Pasztor will be exposed as a major weakness next year.
Like Monroe, not a fit for our ZBS. I could see us targeting the interior like we did our secondary last year. Some people thought I was crazy to expect 2 new starting OLmen, but now it's looking like 3. 4, if you count Joeckel returning from injury, and to his natural position
What's the sense in changing to a ZBS if nobody you have can play it? Doesn't it make more sense to make the scheme fit the players you have than vice versa?
Quote:Yep, I tried telling people this a long time ago...
but, but, they said I was "just being negative" and "trolling for responses"....
Sooooooo...This thread is about you...?

Nope. We got players that fit ZBS. Joeckel/Pasztor (maybe). Now it's time to fix the interior

Plenty of things I'd fear more than that

OK, name the players we have that fit the ZBS.

I did

Thing is, the team doesn't run ZBS exclusively nor Gap exclusively; they run a hybrid. And swapping from ZBS to Gap (GOD, SAB, TKO, etc.) really isn't about a skillset per se. It's more about the reads that you make and knowing who to block. And I'm hopeful that any player who has made it to the NFL would be able to learn how to cut block a guy.
Uche is a god guy, he will be missed.
With that said, the O-line needed a major overhaul and it looks like its getting it.

Only if we let that happen.

That's why we're overhauling the line.
None of the guys that will start this season were starting here before the new regime, unless Rackley has a redemption season.

I understand, but what specifically is it about the ZBS that makes this overhaul "worth it"? If you know what I mean.
If this improves our offensive line next year, great.
If the O-line is still a weak area of the team after 2 years of "building" that Caldwell is doing, he has noone to look at than himself for that.
We needed improvement in the interior. Uche has been struggling for a long time now. Upgrades here we come.

I agree. But we went through several years of no real change on the line already with worsening results.
With two young tackles (three if you count our expected swing tackle), then it's only logical that we look to the interior to complete the overhaul. Meester's retirement and Uche's release afford this opportunity. Add to that the likelihood that MJD also walks... that timing makes officially "switching gears" at OL re: scheme the perfect opportunity to do it. "All in" so to speak... committing to the scheme by backing it with interior that suit ZBS.
I think the last thing they wanted to do was blow everything up last season from the start. Instead, they waited and made those kind of moves as they became apparent. Part of that being, parting ways with Monroe.
Quote:We could upgrade at every position on the line except LT.
What about RT?
