Quote:If they don't take and OT or trade back, I'd guess that they'd take Sammy Watkins. Fisher was REALLY mad when the Jags jumped him for Blackmon 2 years ago and they need WRs.
Of course he was mad. Justin Blackmon was the best WR in the 2012 draft. And we only had to give the Buccaneers a fourth round pick to do it.
Usually I hate trading up, but that that time I loved it because everyone knew the Rams would have picked Blackmon. It just sucked that we could have used our fourth round pick later.

Quote:Watkins would be an excellent choice for them. I also get the sense he is going to destroy the combine.
That wouldn't surprise me, he's a track guy. He's a rare occasion that you have a 'track' guy that is even more of a 'football' guy. He's a special talent and I don't think a team could go wrong picking a guy like that.

And that team could still finish 7-9 with all that talent on offense and all that talent on defense especially at the DE spot but why? Oh yea... It's because you need a QB

The Rams have a quarterback, so what is your point?

Sorry. I forgot how literal I have to be for you. They don't have a GOOD QB.

Actually what you forgot is the Rams said they are committed to Sam Bradford. IIRC they gave him a contract extension to prove it. Therefore, they won't be picking a quarterback even if they should.

Bradford is awful and they won't win a Super Bowl with him. That's my point.

Quote:I see the Rams doing anything they can to trade out of the 2nd slot. Even if they do want to take a tackle....they can trade down several spots and would still be likely to get Matthews/Robinson or even Lewan. I think ultimately they trade down and take one of those three with Sammy Watkins being a dark horse candidate. Clowney is another dark horse simply because I think teams will fall in love with his unheard of size/speed/athleticism.I agree. I know the scenario is assuming they do not trade, but I think if Houston doesn't take Clowney, someone will trade up in my opinion. I remember watching the senior bowl practices on NFL Network and they interviewed Dimitroff, Snead, and Caldwell who through previous affiliations are very close. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Snead deals with Dimitroff. Atlanta is in need of an OT and a DE. In fact they may also be partners with the Jags if the Rams decide to stay put.
*EDIT* Great thread by the way with many people seeing the Rams taking a tackle at the 2 spot a foregone conclusion.

All I am saying is what the Rams will do, not what they should do. You have no argument if you don't understand that.

After reading a big need in Atlanta is defensive end, I thought they would only trade up for Clowney. But when I watched them play part of their last game, I thought not picking an OL would be stupid.

Quote:Sorry. I forgot how literal I have to be for you. They don't have a GOOD QB.I wouldn't say that Bradford's terrible, per se. He's been injury-prone and hasn't played up to the level of, say, Cam Newton or Andrew Luck, who just happened to be picked first overall in the two years following Bradford's selection.
If the Rams do draft a QB at 2 and cut Bradford, he won't be unemployed long, and it wouldn't shock me at all to see him play well in a new city. I don't expect the Rams to go QB, though. I think it'll be Matthews, Watkins or Clowney.

Of course it is important to remember why Sam Bradford was selected #1 overall: he was that good before his right shoulder got torn up. Maybe the injury that shortened his college career is why he has been a disappiontment with the Rams, but it is more likely he just does not have enough talent around him.
To answer the original question: If they don't pick an offensive tackle at 2, they can pick one at 13.

From that link:
This doesn’t mean the Rams will be spending the No. 2 overall pick on a quarterback, but it does mean taking one in the draft is likely. Bradford is on thin ice with the Rams and he needs to turn it around before the Rams lose complete faith in him as their quarterback.
In other words, it is more likely they would pick Matthews or Watkins at #2 and a quarterback at #13 or the next day.

It is certainly a big turnaround from what they said during the regular season.
Another possibility is switching places with the Browns, which would be worse for the Jaguars.

Maybe Fisher isn't as loyal to Bruce Matthews as I am thinking...Jake is there to take at three or stack up picks!

What Jeff Fisher does with Jake Matthews has absolutely nothing to do with his loyalty to Bruce.
ACL reconstruction has absolutely nothing to do with who the Rams will pick at #2.
You have still failed to get a brain from the wizard, Jungle Cat.

To the contrary, to suggest that Jeff Fisher has no inclination to draft Jake Matthews based on reputation is totally off-base. Fisher relied heavily on Bruce Matthews over the years, he knows Jake is not only the top college football player in this draft, he's elite, franchise quality talent. He knows all about Jake. Don't kid around.
ACL reconstruction has a lot to do with what the Rams do with their second pick. You might not be aware that St. Louis has two offensive starters rehabbing. Along with Sam Bradford is starting left tackle Jake Long.
