On a conference call on Thursday, ESPN's Mel Kiper disclosed Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel is the "consensus" No. 1 QB in NFL circles.
"For Cleveland, to see Manziel there would be a surprise to me," Kiper said. "When you talk to people in the league, he's the consensus No. 1 QB." We are a bit surprised by the news, since there are very few "consensus" top players at each position. We still would not be surprised to see Blake Bortles at No. 1 overall

They aren't. What you don't understand is that Bridgewater is not as valued around the league as the media and internet draftniks hyped him up as being. A lot of teams, probably most of them, are going to have Bortles and Manziel over Bridgewater. He's skinny, no outstanding physical talents, and played in the Big East his entire career. Being a really polished prospect will only take you so far with some NFL teams before they start looking at your physical gifts and viewing you as an okay but not great talent in comparison to an electric playmaker like Manziel or a big bodied Roethlisberger/Luck-esque prospect like Bortles.

I'm not sure if teams are as low on Teddy as you make It out to be, but aside from that, you're spot on.
Teddy's only outstanding trait (mental game) is one that could theoretically be taught to anyone. For example, imagine if Manziel had Teddy's mind? Any coach would love that, and say, "Give him to me, I'll make him into what we need."

A lot of teams are going to see Bridgewater's polish as just him being very familiar and good in that system he played at Louisville and the fact a lot of the players from Louisville he knew since high school so there was long time chemistry.

Ryan Leaf... no mental game.
The mental part about football is probably the most important when you are a a QB. Teddy is accurate, quick release and very smart. Yes he might have a smallish frame but he may be able to pack on the pounds to endure the hits a qb takes.

Weren't you one of the biggest teddy supporters not long ago? What changed?
Id argue his poise in the pocket (also one of the most important traits) and touch is outstanding.
If the mental aspect can be taught then how come every qb isn't Manning? You can know all you want in the film room but if you can't convert that knowledge on the field then who cares.

If David Garrard had Bridgewater's mind, his career would have taken a much different trajectory because he had all of the physical tools.

I'm still a big Teddy supporter. I agree with your assessment that his pocket presence borders on elite. But I guess I've simply come to the realization that ultimately, and especially for QBs, the first round pick is so influenced by the personal interaction between player and team that it's critical to the process. And I have no insight as to how Teddy, Clowney, or anyone else will fare in their interviews. I just know this: whether it's Teddy, Manziel, or Clowney, whoever we pick at three is gonna be a stud. I'm very excited.
