Quote:Actually some of the people who say we need a whole new coaching staff are also criticizing players for not executing. The fact is better coaching will lead to better execution. Although in the end players are responsible for execution, they're not able to do it with bad coaching in meetings and practice. Execution is a two-way street.
why not? why can't they line up right? why can't they run the right routes? why can't they catch? a new coach comes in and all a sudden they remember how to do all that stuff?
I agree it's a 2 way street but as many days that they practice, they should know the way to run their routes, where to line up etc...Lining up on the LOS is the same thing they have done since pop warner and all a sudden they forget how?

There is a difference between not knowing how to run a route and not knowing which route to run. Miscommunication is on the play caller or QB. Commentators can tell when this happens.
Did you think only Jaguars players lined up offsides? Every team at every level does it.

the offense other than just a few players have been together with the same playbook for 3 years...If they don't know what route to run after 3 years they need to go...Of course other teams line up offside occasionally, but not the same player twice or so in multiple games...What I'm getting at is the offense has been together long enough to know what to do when every play is called...If the players can't figure out their assignments in 3 years they are junk

More than a few players have changed teams, positions, and depth chart statuses in the last three years. Coaches have changed too. So you are wrong about that. It is irrelevant anyway. Communication can go wrong anywhere at any time for any team.

The scheme has stayed the same so no matter how many coaches we have been through everything else stayed the same...The offense hasn't changed with the new OC...our OL is basically the same the qb is the same, and even if we did add some players, they are seasoned vets who should not be making rookie mistakes

You are still not getting it. Communication can go wrong no matter how well coaches and players know each other. It is a momentary thing. Players who have been together a long time on other teams make the same mistakes.

no you are the one not getting it...players are not executing plays...THAT is not a coaching problem, that is on the players...The players know what they are supposed to do but they are not doing it...It's not all miscommunication, some yes but not all...and some coaching too

That is definitely a coaching problem.

I always said it is on the players to execute the plays when they know what the play is.
Very important Defensive stat relating to overall team success Jaguars points allowed per game average 26 ranks 27th in league.
Another very important stat that happens on the other side of ball. Jaguars Offensive points scored per game 18.5 also ranks 27th in the league.
Just saying...when defense allows more points than offense can score not a good thing. When both of these stat lines of a team are ranked 6th to the last in the league also not a good thing.

If the yards per game were out of whack like DPPG, that would indicate a bad defense. Low yards and high DPPG indicates bad field position. PPG on its own would have to be sky high in order to be definitive.

Another important statistic that often gets overlooked is opponent's time of possession. If our defense is out there too long, we are tired in the fourth quarter.

How so? after 3 years of the exact same offense, you can't really believe that the players don't know what they are supposed to do and where they are supposed to be...The coach can tell them and show them 59,635,485,0635 times an hour, and if the players still don't follow instructions who's fault is it? The players for not following instructions...If a play calls for a receiver to run 15 yards and then cut to the right and he runs 11 and cuts left whose fault is that? If the coach tells a L guard this is a run play we are pulling left your job is to go past the DT and block the DE and he blocks the DT straight ahead of him whose fault is it? There are a lot of coaching errors that's for sure, but players aren't doing what they should be doing either...
There isn't one single thing that is the problem, there are many things combining together to create the [BLEEP] we have now...

26 points per game is a total team stat, not a defensive stat. It includes every pick 6, every punt return TD, everything.
That's why total yards and yards per play are a much better indicator of how a defense is playing.
I'm not arguing that we are the 5th BEST defense in the league. I'm simply pointing out that we are the 5th RANKED defense in the league, statistically.
I'm not defending the coaching staff. I have no agenda, other than perhaps pointing out that this should be a pretty attractive job for head coaching candidates, and defensive coordinator candidates.

Dead Fish's offense wasn't the same from year 1 to year 2, and Olie's offense was different from those.

I don't believe we have a bunch of [BLEEP] playing for us. These players had no problem following instructions in college, and the free agents we have hired had no problems remembering their assignments when they were playing for someone else.
If the players aren't doing what they should be doing, it's on the coaching staff.
Hey guys, I think it can be a lot of both.
The coaching staff has definitely underwhelmed particularly in player development, but Dave has also clearly handed the staff a multitude of inferior players compared to what they could have had.
One the most skewed stats that has directly impacted our defensive ranking is how often we turn the ball over in opponent territory, leading to the other team only having to go less than 50 yards for a drive. Also if we could cut the amount of 3rd and longs that we give up in half wed have a much different record imo

Are those really major issues in your mind for this team? If so - you may need to scrutinize the QB performance a bit more carefully.
