Quote:How so? after 3 years of the exact same offense, you can't really believe that the players don't know what they are supposed to do and where they are supposed to be...The coach can tell them and show them 59,635,485,0635 times an hour, and if the players still don't follow instructions who's fault is it? The players for not following instructions...If a play calls for a receiver to run 15 yards and then cut to the right and he runs 11 and cuts left whose fault is that? If the coach tells a L guard this is a run play we are pulling left your job is to go past the DT and block the DE and he blocks the DT straight ahead of him whose fault is it? There are a lot of coaching errors that's for sure, but players aren't doing what they should be doing either...
There isn't one single thing that is the problem, there are many things combining together to create the [BAD WORD REMOVED] we have now...
The offense may not fit the players strengths. You see that quote from Fitz on what Kyle Shanahan does with Julio to makr him even more effective? When dont we just tell Arob to just run down the field and we throw it up to him?
Good coaching can get more out of these guys. Sure you would hope they could do it with anyone but these are young guys. Gotta play to their strengths and let them develop.
Quote:Another important statistic that often gets overlooked is opponent's time of possession. If our defense is out there too long, we are tired in the fourth quarter.
Exactly. They look just how they're ranked 5th. Guess I don't hate Bradley enough to take credit away from the defense.

Just throwing a ball up in the air and hoping someone catches it is the easiest way to be intercepted.

I disagree. I believe throwing the ball right to a defender is the easiest way for a ball to be intercepted.
I have seen this at times during a game, probably because the QB just didn't see the defender, but it has happened.

Sometimes a QB throws it right to a defender because he lobbed it in the air without any specific target.

Usually it's because the game plan is simple and easily identified by the defense.

The problem with this idea is that just 1 year ago with the same coaching staff we were the greatest show on turf 2.0.
The problem with the offense isn't the play calling, the problem is a QB that is struggling to execute the basic plays.
You can't play call around that.

Defenses adjust. When you have no run game and your passing game is fairly obvious its not hard for defenses to play to stop what we did last year.
Quote:Valid point, but we all already know why- they don't get pressure on the passer. The coverage on the back end is good, and the run defense is good. But there's very little pass rush.
It's still remarkable that they are 4th overall, 5th in yards given up per play, and they're 2-11. Glass half full or glass half empty? I don't know. I prefer to think it means we have something to build on.
Sure, the '85 Bears would have stoned the Vikings in the 4th quarter. We're a long way from that. On the other hand, it does seem like we have the makings of a good defense, and the season long stats seem to bear that out.
Oh dang, that reminds me. There's a 30 for 30 on Netflix about the '85 Bears. It's been in my queue for a while and I need to watch it. At least I would get some satisfaction this season of watching the exploits of a winning team.

The defense doesn't need to do a thing different when the QB is throwing ducks down the field.

Bortles has taken a large step back. We all know this. But that doesnt change the fact our offense is predictable as ever with no run game. Thats not a recipe for success regardless.
Bortles mechanics have been messed up since preseason. There wasnt going to be drastic improvements during the season in that aspect. It sucks but that throwing motion makes it impossible and on short weeks with gameplanning you arent going to fix it.

The run game has improved drastically and the offense still struggles.
The problem is Bortles.
Defenses can game plan for every other aspect of the offense because they know Bortles will beat himself.
The only thing predictable about this offense is that Bortles is going to screw up.
The most creative offensive minds in the game can't overcome a QB that can't complete the most basic passes on a consistent basis.
The NFL is a QB driven league. If you are playing with a guy who is being consistently graded as the worst starter in the league, it doesn't matter what you call. Your offense will look inept regardless.

You keep acting like im not saying Blake isnt bad. Doesnt change the fact our offense lacks creativity and we dont do a lot of different things with our guys to keep the defense on their toes. We havent had an offensive mind doing something like that sincr I can ever remember. From Koetter, to Bratkowski, to Fisch, to Olsen, to Havkett now. Definitely a big selling point for Shanny.
I think with a better pass rush this defense has a chance to be great. Sure doesn't help hat this defense rarely gets to play with a lead.

Who is going to scheme up a creative play with a turnover prone qb? He is the reason the gamelan became basic not vice versa.

You keep acting like having a bad QB doesn't impact the play calling.
What is the common denominator with all these OCs? Bad QB play.

What about last season with good qb play? There wasnt creativity being brought later on after the offense established themselves either. ARob had been a one trick pony for a long time now. Let him move around, try him in different scenarios, dont just throw 50/50 deep balls to him everytime.
I definitely think that has an impact on him falling this year. Sure hes regressed a bit, byt dont tell me it isnt easy as hell to gameplan for a guy when all he does is run 15-20 yards down the field and Blake tosses it up. That wasnt ever going to last long term. Give an NFL DC all offseason to gameplan and watch tape on that, same with NFL corners.
Greg Olsen flamed out quickly everywhere hes been and been near the bottom most of his years in Offense. Same goes for Hacketts stint in BUF.
Better coaching doesnt let Blake even get to this point mechanically. Greg Olsen has said he doesnt even care much about mechanics in interviews before. Read an article earlier in the year about it when people were making a big deal about it.

Josh Freeman, Derek Carr, and Blake Bortles all showed serious upside under Olsen. Then, come year two or beyond, they either regressed or he got canned.
Pretty sure Olsen and his offensive staff has had large hands in whats happened with Qbs. He wouldnt move around so often if he didnt. Results have never been great for more than a season or two wherever he has been.

So he coached as rookie that has gone on to be one of the best QBs in the league and the other two guys had the best seasons of their career while he was OC.
I'm not sure what point you are trying to make. if you are trying to say his coaching influence ruins QBs, Derek Carr disproves that. If you are trying to say he can't lead a QB to have career performances, both Freeman and Bortles disprove that.
Either way, this is a strawman argument because it has nothing to do with the discussion of play calling.

Carr disproves that? Than why the hell was he let go so quickly? Why were Raiders fans rejoicing because Olsen wasnt playing to Carrs strengths and thought he was an awful OC?
Seriously, go ask any Raiders fan about Carr with Olsen and after he was let go. He took off after Olsen left. His first year wasnt impressive at all.
