Give this a read gents...
My thoughts pretty much exactly. Not sure why he hates on Bortles though

Bortles lacks the element of consistency under pressure, I don't now about "low round" though

Well that's just not true.
"- Bortles has been noted for his success when under pressure and it shows here, hitting 63% of his passes when the defense is bearing down. He has the second highest completion percentage against the blitz at 71.05%."

In the case of Leftwich, it cost selecting Roethlisberger the following year. The same situation we may be facing if we reach for a QB with pick #3 this year.
Take a QB this year. Even two if you like. But rest assured there will likely be a much better selection of QBs to choose from next year.
That's why I believe the wisest move would be to look for a QB in the second or third, and pick up another developmental QB later between 5-7 or UDFA.
The thing about "needing" a QB, is that it is never "now or never." You get to draft players every year. No one is stopping you from taking a QB. You can't fear passing on a guy who you don't feel is the right value. That causes you to choose guys from the above list instead of Wilsons and Kaepernicks. Have the stones to pass if the value isn't right. You will find one as long as you do your homework and don't panic reaching for a "must have" QB that's not really so "must have" after all.
What is that list supposed to prove? That some qbs have been busts? K, great point.
You keep saying "reach" when no one is saying that. You have some weird belief that everyone is qb or bust. Most of us think teddy or another qb is worth a top 5 pick. That's only "reaching" in your because you don't like the qbs.
Lol that doesn't cause you to choose between the Wisons and Kaps. Keep trying to follow that plan of just flat out getting lucky. Gms just missed on those two players and San Fran and Seattle got extremely lucky (I'm still hesitant to say Kap is franchise qb).
What happens next year when only a few qbs declare and we finish outside the top 10? Trade everything to go up and grab a qb or hope one magically falls to us?
I think if Bridgewater is there at 3 you take him if not you wait til round 3 for Garrapollo or Fales.
Quote:With very rare exception, you can poke holes in any QB coming out of any draft, even the supposed top-rated ones. The Jags will take a QB early in this draft (1st or 2nd round). If he doesn't work out and deemed warranted, the rookie scale affords you to take another one next year.
Yes, but drafting a disposable quarterback means you lose a talented player with elite talent in the process.
We throw away first round picks?

Do you know what disposable means?
Quote:Hindsight is my friend. It's so easy to list bust and hits years after they have been drafted
It's very easy to see a quarterback bust about to happen. The formula seems to be:
1. Untalented team with high draft pick
2. Massively untalented/over the hill offensive line
3. A lack of a proven veteran starting quarterback
4. A poor running game
5. A over-sophisticated offensive coordinator
Every next year is more exciting that the current one until you get to the "next year", by then it becomes apparent that last year and this year are equally disappointing.

Only fools on messaging boards believe other wise.
If Bridgewater is avail at the 2nd or 3rd we will get him. Raiders are already looking to make a move

<div>DiRocco: Jags are more excited for 2015 QBs
<div>
Jaguars beat writer Michael DiRocco notes the team is "more excited" for next year's class of QBs rather than 2014's crop.
DiRocco believes the Jaguars should not take a passer in the first two rounds of this May's draft for two reasons. One, according to DiRocco, is that "defense is more important to winning championships than most people realize." Secondly, "young, inexperienced quarterbacks, provided they have the pieces in place around them, can make it to and win Super Bowls." We hate looking forward to next year's draft class, especially for a team that could put together two poor seasons in a row under a new regime if they do not upgrade the position. But many people always believe the next year's group of quarterbacks is better than the current one.

Honesty, if we took some of the other more sure elite players (looking at watkins and clowney), and avoided a QB in the first two rounds, I would not have a problem with an selection of a guy like Murray in the 3rd or signing of a decent vet like Vick for a year or two. People always say the next class looks better, and I know people have been talking about Johnny Manziel for 2 years, but sometimes there really is a better player in 2 years. Look at how the 'deep' QB class of 2011 turned out. There was one good QB in Cam Newton, and one alright one in Kapernick ( I just don't think he is that good as a passer).
Anyway, I am glad that Dave is willing to not try and 'force' the issue in the first round. Swing for somebody later. Let other people reach
Quote:The problem I having with this QB class, is that I can't legitimately say that any of them are definite top 10 talents....let alone top 3.....
I like Bridgewater but he reminds me of a Chad Pennington coming out of college (not that this is a bad thing, if not for all his injuries he probably would have had a great NFL career). In fact this whole QB class is reminding of the the 2000 NFL draft.
Wasn't Tom Brady Drafted in 2000? Yeah I think we should take a QB or two...
Quote:and re-hash every year. I can't count the number of drafts they've said next years crop is better.
I think the only year that will prove right was this last draft. All of the QB's look to be bust from last year.
Except Glennon, he doesn't look like a bust. But yeah, Geno and E.J. Manual definatly have that bust glow. I still don't get how people decided that Manuel was any good. I never thought he was, it was shocking to watch him vault from proposed 5th round draft pick to 1st round actual pick.
I thought that quarterback is a push after this past season. Blaine is still under contract. Henne is entering a very intriguing age.
This times 50 next season? Then what? Is this why we want to draft two?

yeah, I say Teddy goes at 5 to the Raiders.

Sig bet that we take Bridgewater at the 3rd???

Oh my god a QB got hit!!!! Lets not draft a QB until we have 5 Hall of Fame Lineman on the roster
I still say that we can grab QB Cody Green from Tulsa at some point in the draft.
A quarterback in cammo is a good sign.

The expectations are fifty (50) for Mr. Bridgewater here next season. Right?
