I think Manziel could be better than Russell Wilson, but he will have to learn how to avoid contact like Russell (sliding/running out of bounds)
Quote:If you draft a guy at #3 he better start day 1. If he needs to sit behind a vet he aint worth the 3rd pick.

However on the second I am stuck between Bortles who has the size but not the arm strength and Mettenberger who has both but lacks pocket presence
after the years of Gabbert and the hope that was Garrard that failed I'm partial to Bortles because he takes that hit and has good delivery and accuracy while taking the hit and is also able to move in the pocket and get the yards with his legs. I still remember watching that Playoff game where Garrard got the 1st down on 4th to clench us going to play the Pats in the divisional. In contrast this is the exact reason I"m hesitant with Mettenberger. IF it wasn't' for Gabbert's inability to quickly learn pocket presence I would go with Metten and skip on Bortles but now i have that lingering feeling that you just can't teach pocket presence.

Absolutely.

Some people want to wait around and hope for a Russell Wilson.  Wilson had a reason for dropping as far as he did.  If there were a Russell Wilson clone in this draft, he'd go 1st round easily.  Hoping that a guy turns into something that he's not... might as well hope Gabbert stops seeing Phantoms.  You'll have as much luck.

If its between Bortles and Met, Bortles please how ever I think if Bridgewater is gone, Fales/Murray and Jimmy G should be the targets

Finding a Russell Wilson is even harder than finding an Andrew Luck

He had a 1st round grade in everything but height, that won't happen again

what rounds would u suggest taking them in, because the first three rounds will likely be a massive reach
Worth the 3rd pick....Bridgewater. Bortles should be a 15-20 pick, but will be over-drafted and won't make it past the Vikings at 8. Manziel is an absolute wild card, and some GM will fall in love with the energy called "Johnny Football" and over-draft him in the top 10 also. No other QB in this draft is worth a first round selecton (except I have not seen Matthews, so he is exempt from this statement).

If you feel comfortable enough with Bortles that you can strengthen his mechanics and arm and you need a qb, I would take him in the second round or maybe a late 1st rounder if you want to trade up

Mett I wouldn't trust in the 1st three rounds just based off his pocket presence alone. Gabbert has scarred me.

Unfortunately with qbs it is always a over reach for the most part

Bridgewater's pro readiness has him a top 10 for me. I think Murray and Fales will surprise you too
sorry i should have been clearer, I meant what round would you draft Fales/Murray and Jimmy G

TANK FOR TEDDY!!!!

Oh wait... has that fad died already?

Fales/Murray could be worth a 1st rounder (what I have seen on film, more likely second rounders though)

Jimmy G is a wild card for me, he looks great on film but I need to see how he responds to pressure in his face

???
Only Teddy is worth it at 3.  Manziel and Bortles would both be a huge reach at 3.  Bortles, would be worth it... if you could take him just outside the top 10 (even tho I think he's more a 2nd round QB).  Manziel, I just don't see it... but he'd be worth it outside the top 10 I guess?  if you really wanna reach.  All the Manziel lovers, just don't get how much talent he had around him compared to any other QB.

IF HE AINT LUCK HE SUCK!!

IF HE AINT TEDDY HE AINT READY!!!

IF HE AINT KAEPERNICK SLAP THE [BAD WORD REMOVED]!

IF HE AINT WILSON NO TEAL SON!!!

Quote:I like Manziel, but if draft him and expect him to start immediately and be productive...its a grave mistake.

If he's not starting, he's not worth the 3rd overall.

He needs to sit under a vet

OK for a third rounder.

Bridgewater is your first guy

Maybe,
I'm not on the bandwagon yet.

We already have a guy with no pocket presence.........hasn't worked out too well so far.
I dont think any of these QBs is worth the 3rd overall pick.  But if you dont have a QB, you are better off just taking the best one until you eventually find one.

Then you have green bay that had one and got another. Giving them time to develop is just as important and has proven to work more often than just throwing a first round to the wolves

5 of the 12 playoff teams 'threw their quarterbacks' to the wolves, and didn't wait for them to develop.  Peyton Manning also started his career during his first year.  Meaning half of the playoff teams didn't have QB's that were wait and develop, while half of them did.

Of the 6 teams that did not have QB's that weren't thrown out there in their first game:

-2 of them were not on the team they were originally drafted by

-2 of them were on a team with a solid QB situation already

-2 of them was on a team with a solid stop-gap situation

I'm not sure how many Quarterbacks have sat behind back-up quality players and gone on to be great for their team.  Most likely because the back-up quality players are... back-up quality.
