Odd, that quoted posts seems about Uche. and judgment on Uche. But I guess the adage of people seeing "what they want to see" rings true there.

How is it a derail? Blackmon was brought up in thread (and not by me), & is on topic.

Who will be a surprise cut?
My surprise cut.

Nobody until camp. All the players listed so far may have bad contracts, but at their best they can play and they have all bought into Gus's program. No sense in cutting them until we have replacements although none of them are safe.
I hardly ever drink Alcohol, and if I was making millions of dollars and drinking could take that away, I wouldn't give it a second thought.

I don't see any. All the players who are at least half decent will remain, even the overpaid ones.

I agree, but I think the topic includes any cut up until opening day. The Jaguars have (at least) 11 picks, and who knows how many UFDAs will sign after the draft. It may not be a surprise by then, but I think a familiar, popular name will be gone.

...But then, I don't have any allegience to Uche because I judge him off of how the interior OL has performed since he's been here, not by if he signed my football or had a small conversation with me in passing, It seems some on this board base their player allegience that way, rather than player performance.

Oh stop the houlier than thou attitude, it's annoying.

Nobody is claiming Uche is untouchable.  If we draft a guard that makes Uche expendable (or sign one in FA), nobody will shed tears he is leaving.

I think he's a below average to average NFL guard.  He's overpaid as well.  He could get cut and it wouldn't surprise me.

If they decide to keep him (similarly to how we've kept Meester for a long time because he was OK), then fine - that probably means we just weren't able to address 3 interior line positions in one offseason.  Cutting him and then replacing him with a guy that's worse is also stupid.

I also think Babin should only stay on basically a minimum veteran's salary.  He brought almost nothing of importance to us.  Think back to last year and ask yourself:  How many IMPACT plays did he have?  Sure, he had some sacks, but the vast majority of those came at times that didn't affect the game at all.

Conversely, I can think of a few penalties that had HUGE negative impact caused by Babin.  By all standards, he was a below average DE.  Being that he's also old, cutting him would by no means be "stupid".  Even Andre Branch had a more positive impact than Babin and is about 10 years younger.  Those are the guys you keep.

Uche's gotta go dude.

The ENTIRE interior of the interior needs to be OVERhauled. No better time than the present. Uche is not part of the solution, he's part of the interior OL's problems over the past half decade.

Uche has value as a backup, at the very least. If he gets cut, it will be due more to his salary than relative ability, and I'm not sure the cap will be an issue even next season.

This team has holes at:

QB, RB, WR, LG, C, RG, DE, DT, ROLB, LOLB, FS, AND CB

It's not feasible to address every single hole in one year.

Decisions will be made as to how to best improve this team by looking at who is available (for the right price) in FA and the draft.

If the RG stays Uche, so be it.  I'm an adult that's not going to wet the bed because a player I don't like will stay.  The team will improve the RG position.  It may be this year, or it may be next year.  Maybe we'll even trade Uche and bring up another guy like Pasztor.

I have this thing called PERSPECTIVE though,.... I know we can't address every single problem area this year.  I'd be happy with a new QB, 2 new Offensive Lineman, and another impact player on defense.

We are starting with 10 picks, and will have 50+ MIL under the cap for FA.

Stop pretending that we are still in the old ERA of football where rebuilding takes 5 years.

We've seen examples of teams that have completely turned around train wrecks in one year let alone, 2 years, which this is, our 2nd offseason.....

Do you expect a 5th rounder, or lower, to be better than Uche?  Maybe they are, history shows they probably are not.

I expect us to be turned around next year - but that doesn't mean that literally every hole has been plugged by a younger, cheaper, better version of what you had.

You can make a turnaround (record wise) and still have a guy like Uche on your team.

Chill out man.  Uche is not a building block for this team.  He can be serviceable while we find his replacement.   But of course you won't chill out, because you love to find things to cry about.

Don't forget Uche's value as a swing man, too. He can play guard or center.
It's also hilarious that you want to keep Babin (for a cheaper deal) but want to cut Uche.  They're actually very comparable players.  Both below average to average at their positions.  Both overpaid.  One is 4 years younger though, which may be a reason why replacing Uche may not be priority #1 this offseason.  It may be priority #9 or #10.

Did Uche say he'd restructure cheaper?....because Babin did.

lol....yep, why have a guy who can just suck at one position when you can have a player than can suck at multiple. Laughing

C'mon rj....just fix the OL once & for all.

Get players that are specifically drafted to fit into our ZBS system, too. Uche wasn't this nor was anyone who was brought in for our OL pre-Fisch/ the new OL coach.

Only Joeckel really can say that at this point.

Babin is an average Pass rusher, Uche is a bad Blocker..

Babin actually did something useful this year and is willing to come back for less, Uche sucks and even if he came back for free he shouldn't be more than a backup.
