the texans will not draft clowney.   or they will lose watt.   You cant have two first round de and still build a franchise.    You have Johnson losing a step and no qb.   Not happening.

What? It's called a rookie contract. LOL.
The Texans would be better off taking Clowney then dealing their 2nd for Big Ben

So would we.

A dubious claim.

At it's core, the theory states you can't have two first round picks at any one position and still hope to build a franchise.

The Colts had two first round picks at WR (Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne) and did quite well, reaching two Super Bowls.

The Ravens had two first round picks at LB (Ray Lewis and Terrell Suggs) and won a Super Bowl.

The Saints had two first round picks along the DL (Will Smith and Sedrick Ellis.

I fail to see the distinction for DE.

All that said, if the Texans do select Clowney, I hope you are right.
Depending on their salary cap issues, he may have a point.  4 years from now if Clowney wants a huge deal and Watt is also looking for another huge deal, they may not be able to keep both of them.

I've watched Mallett play in preseason. Missing curl routes and throwing the ball to the ground... On a screen pass. He seemed eh to me.
