Quote:So you've already seen how good O'Brien will be? So the Texans will win a playoff game next year then?

They'll be a playoff team in his rookie year, I'll predict that.
But he will be going against the formidable wisenhunt and Andrew Luck? Are you predicting all 3 make the playoffs?

Whisenhunt won't make the playoffs next year. They'll likely get 8 wins his first season. The Colts and Texans will make the post season.

@TMD - so you don't think we make the postseason in 2014?

I don't see it next year for the Jags.....unless they get the leagues best draft combined with 2 or 3 impact players from free agency....and even then it will be tough. The Jags have a really tough schedule next year. Both in the division and outside of it.

@TMD you are missing the big picture - I used my "noggin" this time..

Yes you did! That earns you a +1

With the cap space we have, we very well could get 2 or 3 key position upgrades in Free Agency. What we need is to hit on a QB. If we get a good QB that can come in and be mediocre his rookie year, we could be 8-8 and possibly 9-7 and in the playoff hunt.

I honestly believe we're just a few pieces away from being competitive. Not contenders, but competitive. We could very well be in the playoff hunt come december. It just depends on how we handle free agency and the our QB selection. But I'm not saying anything new.

One thing I will add to the c'lots discussion from page 2 of this thread: I do am not overly worried about the coaching staff of the c'lots. Additionally, I'm also not worried about thier talent evaluations and personel moves by the GM and Owner. I think the Jags have a big advantage over the c'lots in terms of front office, which in the long run will hopefully lead to a c'lot slide and a Jaguar resurgence.

So the titans go 8-8 and the texans / colts both go at least 9-7 with one or both likely getting 10 or more wins?

Not likely to say the least. Last time that happened ( 3 teams in AFC south with even or better record with 2 making playoffs) was 2008 only happening once in the divisions history and in 2007 all four teams had even or better records with 3 making the playoffs which has not happened before or since with any division.

No the titans will lose some games and the texans will too with a new HC and even the colts arent exactly stacked on their roster either they simply have the QB. Something that at this point neither Tenn or Houtson actually have.

Even history doesnt believe your gloom and doom TMD
Quote:Whiz is not the class of HC that O Brien will be, but he's certainly a better option than some of the other candidates that Tennessee was considering. I dunno....I was hoping Tennessee would actually get the worst coach possible - That makes things easier on the Jags.
Ask Arizona fans how they feel about Whisenhunt. He's the definition of a one-year wonder.

Every team in the division getting the absolute worse and the Jaguars getting the absolute best is simply impossible and there's really no point in fretting over it.

Tennessee is in no position to compete for relevance for a very, very long time. They believe in Locker. That alone makes them a 6-10 team at best.

We'll see by the QB moves they make or don't make in the offseason, just how much they believe in Locker or not.

I'm not taking any lip service and back patting of incumbent Locker too seriously at this point.

Quote:He's just another HC retread. He's a great offensive coordinator but suspect as a head coach. The Leinart debacle is just one of his suspect decisions. And lets not forget his record as a HC 49–53, a real winner.
wonder how much of a part he was in the trade for Kolb

Especially if they switch to a 3-4 scheme. It'll take them at least a couple of offseasons to retool the front seven to be an effective 3-4 front.

Not necessarily. The Eagles effectively made the switch under Kelly in only a year... They struggled in the first half of the season with that, but by weeks 9-17 they seemed much improved on D.

It still takes another offseason or two to get the personnel to fit. It can "work" while in transition, but there's still a transition for the roster that takes at least two drafts to built a quality starting lineup and depth that actually fits the scheme (and isn't a force fit.) Turnover has to happen to complete the transition, and you can't accomplish that in a single year.

But the Titans aren't totally devoid of good defensive personnel, either.

So while some changes will be necessary, I don't see the whole defense thing being a total train wreck as a final product while the shift in some personnel happens.

Their bigger issue would probably be their offensive production given their weak personnel on that side of the ball.

He's nothing special. Average coach with a talent for offense.

Effectively?

They finished 29th in yards and 17th in points.

Keep in mind, they operated with decent personnel at QB with Vick and mostly Foles. Both of whom are better than anything the Titans currently possess at QB.
McNulty is expected to be their offensive coordinator. Don't know much about him. Good hire or no?
