Looks like Leinart won't be starting for the Titans. Bullet dodged!

Alfie broke down the coaches film and showed how receivers were wide open through the Rams secondary.  There were a lot of yards and points left on the field against a pretty good defense.

We just didn't have guys who could execute the plan.

Later in the year, we got glimpses of what could happen when the team is comfortable with the scheme.  I can only imagine how it will be with better talent (dang it Blackmon...stay your butt on the field and out of trouble/suspension!!!).

I'm quoting this particular post by you Bullseye, but my statement here goes to the general conversation about Fisch. His greatest strength is, in my opinion, his creativity. For most every game, it felt like he was pulling every trick that he knew just to be able to move the ball. I believe that it is really to his credit that he got whatever production that he did out of what he was working with.
Lions really dropped the ball not getting Ken and settling for Jim.

It's certainly realistically possible that the Lions will regret in the long term not landing Ken Whisenhunt.   In the short term though,   Jim Caldwell clearly looks like the better fit for what the Lions are trying to accomplish.   Especially since the transition on Defense will be far less under Caldwell than it would have been under Whisenhunt.

Regarding what transpired that led to Ken Whisenhunt ending up in Tennessee,   Lions G.M. Martin Mayhew offered some thoughts yesterday following Jim Caldwell's introductory news conference:

Yeah, I don't understand all the Caldwell hate. Leading up to this, most Titans' fans were hoping and praying we wouldn't end up with Caldwell. Most of it has to do with the one season in Indy without Manning. I realize the team fell apart at the seams, but who else is winning ball games with Curtis painter? Caldwell put a ring on Flacco's finger. Flacco! I think he deserves another shot.

I think the main reason Whisenhunt chose Tennessee was because of the defense. After he was signed, it was reported that Whisenhunt didn't agree with where the Lions were headed defensively. Whisenhunt coaches 3-4 defenses. Tennessee, for some strange reason, has been trying to fit 3-4 players into their 4-3 defense for a few years now. We have most of the pieces already. I could be wrong, but I believe we will be transitioning to the 3-4.

I just thank God the Titans didn't try to sign Schwartz. Need to keep Fisher's shadows far away from this team.

Well stated.

As badly as the 2011 season went for the Colts,  they could easily have folded their tents when they were 0-13.  Instead,  the Colts won the next two games with Dan Orlovsky as the starting QB.  Games that were important to both Tennessee and Houston,  the teams Indianapolis ended up beating.   Caldwell kept the team as even keeled as was realistically possible under the situation of that season.  Coupling this with Caldwell leading the Colts to the AFC South Title in 2010 when they won their last 4 regular season games after being 6-6 in an injury plagued season,    the contrast of what occurred with the Lions in the second half of the 2012 and 2013 seasons is clear as day.

So, because of one game against an opponent at the time who's pass defense was considered a weakness, you then became less skeptical about Fisch?? Seems extremely short sighted of you Bullseye. You usually would be more thorough than that.

I'm gonna see a heckuva lot more than that to sell me on Fisch here for the long term. We know he's at least here through 2014, so I'll need to see major improvement before I'm happy with him returning in '15.

Easy for you to say this now that you know you won' t be getting him to ruin your team.

A new direction definitely makes sense for Tennessee.   Ken Whisenhunt likely will hire a Defensive Coordinator that will in essence totally change the scheme.  It might take a season or two to adjust to the new scheme and have personnel that fits the scheme.  But on both sides of the ball,  I think the main focus will be building for the long haul.   Anything the franchise accomplishes in 2014 would likely be viewed as a bonus.

I would have been just as easily as unsure and curious with Caldwell.

LOL. Now Fisch is going to be unable to sleep, with all that pressure you've put on him. Having to meet your expectations and all.

And Bullseye - you better start agreeing with TMD, or you'll also fall short of those lofty expectations. Can you handle the stress?
