Quote:The likelihood the Russians hacked into email servers is the same likelihood that we, the Chinese, the UK, or a random 400lb hacker hacked into it as well. Want to know the cure to preventing leaks and hacked servers? Stronger security measures and training. The DNC was hacked because they didn't adhere to (or even have any) security policies. Meanwhile, the Republicans apparently did.

If Russia ACTUALLY did hack into the email servers, they would already have the evidence because it doesn't take half a year to do a forensic analysis. The fact NOBODY from any alphabet agency has come forward is proof enough that they DON'T have any evidence. Only innuendo.

So, it's the fault of the DNC that they were hacked. That's like a child telling his mother it was her fault for not putting the cookie jar out of reach.

The only thing the lack of evidence YOU'RE not seeing proves is you don't have clearance.

You Trumpettes are incredible. You're willing to buy into any scrap of information that suits your world view, but outright reject any notion your beloved Russians may have done anything wrong.
Quote:Looks like we will get Congressional hearings on the matter, so we will know more then.

They won't accept any outcome from that, unless it exonerates Putin. Trump is already discrediting the CIA, his minions will be in lockstep when he inevitably discredits Congress, if not for this topic, then any time they cross him.

It is absolutely their fault. Organizations like the RNC and DNC are prime targets for ALL hackers. How hard is it to NOT fall for phishing scams and not use "password" for your password? There are bots that automatically scour the internet probing random servers and accounts, testing for easy passwords or open ports that can be exploited.

Security falls on the individual, or the organization to provide training to ensure the individual is adequately prepared.

There is literally no excuse for a person in Podesta's position to fall for an extremely vanilla phishing scam, or be using the password "password".

Keep harping on Russia, you have no evidence it was them. You have no proof. You and the media are grasping at straws because your entire ideology was proven a sham and the voters recognized it for what it is.

From the same fake news source:

FBI and CIA give differing accounts to lawmakers on Russia’s motives in 2016 hacks

FBI apparently thinks the CIA's accusations are full of crap.

FBI is discrediting the CIA too. Interesting how that works.
Same FBI who shamelessly altered the course of an election on weak evidence that pointed to zero criminal behavior? OK

People trust the FBI about as much as they trust mainstream media.

Spoken like a classic left-wing pundit. What did they alter? They chose not to indict Hillary. It isn't their fault the Democrats nominated the most unethical candidate in US history. People trust the FBI much more than the media.

Also, funny you should discredit the FBI when it was the CIA that lead us directly into the completely pointless Iraq war and also lied about Benghazi.
Just a few facts that I'll throw out there.  Take them as you wish.

FACT #1 - Many computer viruses actually originate in Russia or the vicinity.  Many scams or "hacks" also originate from Asia in general including China, North Korea, etc.

FACT #2 - Just because a hacking attempt/malware/virus originated in Russia doesn't mean that it was the Russian Government that did it.

FACT #3 - It's pretty easy to send misleading information with the attack.  As an example.  A recent exploit's source code was released, and some of the comments happened to be in Russian.  Does that mean that a Russian wrote the code, or did the hacker intentionally translate the comments to Russian to give a false trail?

FACT #4 - The DNC hack involved a very simple and primitive method that even faked out the admins.  One piece of advice that I would give everyone is NEVER, EVER, EVER click on a link in an email that says "change password now" or anything like that unless you know what you are doing.

FACT #5 - Anything that the CIA or the FBI knows about the whole thing is not going to get "leaked" to the media.  A media organization quoting an "anonymous source" isn't very credible.

Quote:Whose side will you be on?

How could I be on either side?  I'll be another victim of the war like the rest of us.

The DNC deserves criticism for lax security, but Russia did the hacking.

The CIA and FBI disagree on motive, agree there was hacking. That's the point.

I didn't vote for Clinton or Trump. My politics are irrelevant, my concern is a foreign intrusion into our domestic email servers.

You have zero self awareness if you think your patriotic outrage wouldn't be on display had your orange hero been the target.

I'm assuming you only remember Deep Throat, the movie.

Bull. The point isn't about whether the hack occurred or not. Everyone knows it happened (or at least there was a leak). The point you and the media are trying to make is you know without a doubt it was the Russians who were interfering with the election. There is no proof of this. Russia is as possible the culprit as China, the UK, or any US citizen is.

My point is, prove the part in bold.  It can't be proved definitively without getting physical access to the machine(s) used.

I can probably hack the same things using some scripting and other tricks that would make it look like it came from Russia rather than Jacksonville, Fl.

LOL.  Deep Throat the movie was one of the first of my adolescent "adventures".

It's a different time right now.  It would be very rare for somebody like the original "deep throat" to get away with it.  Proof isn't "spoken word", it's usually text in the form of an email, chat or text message.

Regardless, nothing has surfaced either in the news or in the underground that Russia was responsible for the hack.
Quote:I'm assuming you only remember Deep Throat, the movie.

Rumor has it that Richard Nixon went to see Deep Throat over a dozen times.

He wanted to get it down Pat.

Quote:He never said it, and there is no effort afoot to make it happen.

Yes, the effort is to subvert the Electoral College.

I heard today it's because they have positively determined that the hack is from Cozy bear.  They had a greater than 50% confidence back in June, now it's over 90%.

Don't ask me how their confidence increased.  You're in the IT community, and probably know better than I would.
And the Biggest Putin ally ever just named SoS. I thought we were "draining the swamp".

Laughable
After all the elections the US has had their hand in influencing, we're finally mad at a country trying to influence ours?

Quote:And the Biggest Putin ally ever just named SoS. I thought we were "draining the swamp".

Laughable

Rex Tillerson is pretty far outside the swamp. The guy isn't a politician. He isn't a lawyer. He isn't a lobbyist. He is an international businessman through and through, much like Trump. Good pick.

Selecting Bolton, Rudy, Romney, or Corker WOULD have been the swamp. This guy is antithetical to the swamp.

Laughable you call him the "biggest Putin ally ever" just because he has done business with Russia, whom also deals heavily in the oil industry.

Tell me Indy2Jax, since we are so staunchly anti-Russia now, when will we start rounding up ethnic Russians in this country and start putting them in internment camps? After all, to even be associated with anything Russian is to apparently be an enemy of the state (according to you and your leftist friends).

They certainly are not a US ally, have no intention of being an ally ever and their country is run by a mad man. We are draining the swamp to replace them with business men concerned with their own pocket books.

The rest isn't even worth discussing cause it's a straw man argument.
