Quote:Just for fun, where do you guys think he will catch on? Oakland maybe? For some reason I think he could land in New England
Atlanta - Reunion with Dirk Kotter??
If a team wants to give him four years then it will be good for him, but good-bye MJD. He does not have four productive years left...it will be sad, but business is business.
Caldwell just said the man deserves to see what his worth is in free agency. We have the right to match or not match the offer. Caldwell will not give up much to resign him. Personally, with him being near 30 and having been injured the last 2 years......no smart GM would take a chance.
Quote:Saw an article about his situation and how other backs his age received long term deals. I think it waa Bush, Gore, and Deangelo Williams. .each received a deal getting around 7mil a year. Article projected he'd receive one for about the same. That won't come from us. Too many injuries. I think he will be disappointed in the FA market for an ageing banged up back.
I doubt he gets nearly that much cash and not that long of a deal. But if he did, then good. Compensatory picks are determined via contract that a player signs for, i.e. the more money/ longer term the higher the pick, so....
Granted any high profile free agent signings we would make would also be included into the formula, so we may not get much anyway.
I would hate to see mojo take the same route as Fred Taylor.

cause he didnt get a ring or cause he got slim playing time and dint get a whole lot of money??.... either way he got paid in the latter of his career which is rare for most running backs.... i dont feel bad for him, he retired a jag and had a great career.

if he went to denver i would love to see them get reggie wayne too.... it would be like a throwback AFCS allstar offense.
Quote: I think Caldwell and MJD's agent will try very hard to keep him in Jacksonville because both sides want that.
What makes you think that? MJD has said on numerous occassions it's about the money. He cares little about Jacksonville if any, he cares about the money. He will go play for whomever offers the most. Sheesh!

few people doubt that at all... it doesnt effect how i feel about mjd for the most part... but id be a liar if i said i wouldnt have cared if mjd showed some loyalty to this club and city....i know hindsight is is 20-20, but given the outcome of his holdout, it seems liek something that could have been handled a little more discreetly... im sure alot more poeple would be pushing for him if he had never made those statements about it being just a business... every fan fully understands that, we dont need it rubbed in our face repeatedly by people we are paying to watch... i think he lost a good deal of support with that stuff he pulled two years ago.
Am i the only one who cant imagine mjd putting on another jersey, hes only 2 seasons removed from leading the league in rushing, i happen to believe he can still put up 1,300 yard seasons if he had a good o-line. I've growned with this team, was sad to see fred taylor go. Whatever happens though ill still be a jag fan.

MJD has stated numerously that he would like to finish his carerer in jacksonville, as positive of a role model as he has been in the community the evidence is there that he does care about jacksonville. get your facts together man.
I am going to take a different stance than many others. Jones Drew gave me my ticket's worth when there was really nothing else on this team. Jones Drew was worth the price of the ticket for many years. I wish the best for him and his family. Jones Drew is near the top if not the best Jaguar player of all time. If he is gone, good luck Drew. I think he still something in the tank especially once he reads the negativity spewed his way from this board. I hope you do get some $$$$$$$ Drew. Whether you leave or not thank you for being really the only reason worth the price of admission for many years. A lot of your blood, sweat and tears were spilled for the Jaguars and I enjoyed sitting in the stands cheering for you.
Drrrrreeeeeeewwwwwww!!!!!!!

Wouldn't you rather have a non-leading rusher and be better than 5-11?
I appreciate the performance he has delivered to me in the stands over the years. However, he will likely get an offer above what the Jags are willing to pay. He is slowing. It may be the right time to let him go, and receive possible compensatory draft pick consideration for him.

No chance.
RB, especially of his style of running simply decline faster than other players.
His days of 1300 yards in a season are over. He'll be lucky to even hit 1000 again.

Two teams that don't need any more running backs.
3 years guaranteed. 2.3 mi per year sounds fair for both sides. Yes he has lost a bit, but the NFL is a passing league anyway now. He could really help if used right. With the guaranteed money to a 31-32 year old, that is very valuable, the Jags win, Drew wins even though it's less per year than he wants. The Jags wil be betting he can stay healthy for 3 years. In a lessor role, I think he can.
Good teams use backs differently than in the past. Good teams use their backs-
1. to keep teams honest, and not play only pass- MJD can do that. 10-15 runs max a game.
2. to block so your passing QB can throw without being killed. Somebody always misses a block. -MJD can do that.
3. Catch an occasional dump off pass- MJD can do that.
4. When it's 3rd and 2, a short yardage back is invaluable for keeping drives alive- MJD can do that really well.
So use him like everyone else uses their back, not as a feature back, but more in the role Fullbacks once were used at before
they became extinct. The most important thing for this team is transitioning to a passing team with a good QB. Drew could fit in nicely on a passing team.
But the days of the big contract feature RB is about gone, because their role has changed, Drew and his agent should recognize that.
If they don't, the league will remind them fairly soon. He still has value to a passing team at the right price. If Gus and Dave want a
ground attack team then they should let him go no matter the price.
