After this game I can't imagine what more they might possibly be able to see out of Bortles that they don't already know by continuing to play him.

Quote:For better or worse, they consider Blake the starter and are letting him work through his issues.
That said, I have no idea why they don't swap Henne and Allen on gamedays, so Allen can play in the event that Bortles gets knocked out of the game.
Quote:In my humble opinion, the NFL crowds take no prisoners. A kid being thrown in at the deep end for an underperforming and underachieving team with a hostile (and understandably so) fanbase could kill whatever confidence he has.I don't think the fans would have much in the way of expectations for Allen.
Sure, it could work in his favour and he could thrive on that. For me, though, I don't think it's right. I personally don't think there's anything to gain from it. Like I always say, differing opinions are what keeps message boards interesting. It would be boring if we all agreed.

When you have lost 8 games in a row largely due to poor QB play, I think you should try something cause this isn't getting better. Sure, I doubt Gus will actually do it, but that is the kind of mentality and decision making from a coach who is 14-46---You know, losing, more losing, just keep doing what isn't working---sure.
Quote:Starting Allen over Bortles is admitting failure. It ain't gonna happen.
Quote:Allen can't even beat out Henne for the backup spot and people on this board want him to start over BB? Please.
I get the frustration by fans. I'm tired of the losing as well. However, putting in a guy that is barely hanging on to a roster spot isn't the solution.
Quote:Henne never beat out Allen. They never gave Allen a chance to compete for the backup spot. Nobody knows how good Allen might be until we at least see him in a game.He got a chance in preseason. After watching him, he was given the third string spot. The guy isn't even in Henne's league, much less BB's. Maybe he'll be a decent backup one day.

Quote:I've always heard that the rule of thumb is that by the time a QB plays his 50th game, he's reached his potential. Bortles is getting close (I think he'll have 46 games under his belt by the time the year's done (assuming he finishes up the season as the starter). So it is becoming irrelevant if sitting him is an admission that they've given up on him since he's not looking like the
franchise QB many of us thought he was anyway. Draft another guy and sign a veteran and have an open competition next year and let the new coaching staff decide.
Quote:Agreed. You have to give the new HC some options to turn this around. You can't go into 2017 with only BB6. I wish the team had the intestinal fortitude to sit Blake and give the rookie a look...

Quote:He can't throw a worse ball
Quote:I don't understand how this is going to give the new head coach some options to turn this around. I think it would be stupid to throw Allen in there now. This isn't about Bortles sucking this season...he does. I'd rather not take a chance on ruining a guy that probably isn't ready to play in the NFL yet. Keep him on the bench, until there is a new coaching staff.
It just doesn't make sense to me.
Quote:It's not like they're throwing him in there week one after merely attending training camp...he's been on the roster all season preparing. Barring the always present risk of injury playing any football, playing him during the final three weeks of the season is not about to "ruin him."
