Carr is lucky he will likely garner an invite to the senior bowl to make up for his poor performance here. But just like his game against Utah, once he felt the pressure his accuracy is off. He didn't get help from receivers on some plays but this game just reaffirms that he is overrated
When you say Derek Carr had a bad game, are you paying attention to what his receivers do? Were some so-called bad throws really miscommunication? Were any passes dropped or deflected?

You sure do ask a lot of questions lol
Quote:I've watched about half his games since midpoint in season so no he plays bad against good defences just like geno and he hasn't played against much pressure so he's looked good until it mattered today when it counted them most bowl games r very telling of how a player will be at the next lvl that and senior bowl week
Then you have a very strong short term bias I guess. Carr's ball placement was not good this game, but has been stellar all year long...and he does get antsy footwork at times, but I have never seen him crumble under pressure and he didn't crumble under pressure today either.

I think if you break down his performance, He went 29-54, of those, no question there were some dropped balls, miscommunication on some of his fade balls, poor back shoulder throws, poor route running, and in some instances his receivers were just outplayed at the line of scrimmage. He also faced pressure in the first half.
But he threw it 54 times and only averaged four yards per completion. Lots of his completions were off of quick and bubble screens . Some of his passes in the first half when faced with pressure were off the mark.
I think that there was equal blame to go around, but he certainly was not an exception to the overall bad play.
Yes this is just one game. But as I mentioned earlier, i worry a bit about the system he has to play in and what he does not have to do, that he will be required to do next year.
Derek Carr is no Teddy Bridgewater, obviously, but he's still probably a first-round pick as of now based on his arm talent.
I like that everyone is bringing up the quick bubble screens and short passes that he has been using all year. Against lesser opponents you can run these all days but not against the better college Ds and definitely not against NFL Ds. Once you take away those plays from his aresenal and make him go to the intermediate and long throws his game suffers. Add on his issues under pressure and the fact the aforementioned routes take time to develop and our Oline play this year it just wouldn't work
Quote:and bad bloodline he is not going to be a good qb
lol. It'd be funny if it weren't so true.
i dont think you can write him off for one or two games.
im sure if Cecil Shorts' Mount Union team had played USC, he wouldn't look too good either. One guy cant make his whole team much better.
sir have you met Tom Brady?

ya he was average in college

Cecil Shorts the QB?
Come on HeeRo, log in to your alt account so you can tell us how amazing Derek carr is.

if the rest if his team is highly outmatched, no QB can do it alone. he needs protection, receivers, a running game, and a defense.
this doesn't happen in the pros as much since everybody on each team is a pro.
i didnt even catch the game, but im just saying one bad game doesn't mean he sux forever. he could end up being good, nobody really knows
Quote:Way to tell us that this is the only game of his you've watched.
Maybe it is the only game he's watched.....its also probably the only game Carr's played in that really gave him a real test. Not surprised that he failed it miserably.

A lot easier to have good ball placement with a pristine pocket which Carr had for the majority of his season. You don't get that in the NFL much if ever.

I hope Carr is a 1st round pick of any AFC team but us. Let someone else bust with that selection.

Yep, good post.
i might have missed something but bradey's college career was filled with a coaching staff that refused to make him the starter for the majority of his college career and put him in when they needed help.

Brady was behind Brian Griese his first two seasons and started every game the following two years.
This game is reminiscent of his game against SDSU and Utah St. Constant pressure with no running game is how you contain Carr. This is the worst game i've seen Carr play and I expected it. Not sure if the hits he sustained on his shoulder earlier in the game had an impact but he was inaccurate for most of the game, it was like the first half of the SDSU all over again. He hasnt had his #2 target Harper since losing him against the SJSU game, and Peck the replacement has been horrible in both games. But i saw a lot of overthrows due to happy feet in this game alone that the blame is mostly on Carr. He's still my #2 QB though.
Guys, can we not compare EVERY QB prospects who were overlooked in college to Brady? Brady is one of those "Cinderella" stories in sport, meaning that it almost never going to happen again.
