Don't get me wrong I like todman. He doesn't have the agility, speed or power that Fred had. A better comparison right now whould be a less physical Donald brown from Indy. Which isn't bad but nowhere do I see Freddy T in him.
Quote:Fred Taylor had a rare combination of power, vision, lateral/vertical explosion, & topped it all off with long speed. Fred Taylor (in his prime) was one of the best RB's in the history of the NFL, guys like Curtis Martin & Terrell Davis got all of the love, but Taylor was a far superior runner. The great Jim Brown said Fred Taylor was one of the best in NFL history as well.

Is Freddy your fav too? I feel a kindred vibe here lol.
Quote:Well heck I know all that. Freddy is my all time fav player in the history of NFL. I cried a bit during his retirement ceremony. I wasn't saying JD was FT equivalent or caliber lol. I just see a similar style in a few areas is all.

They are entirely different runners, that's where I was getting at. Jordan Todman has talent, but compares more to a Trung Candidate than a Fred Taylor.

This... how many backs at 6'1 200 sum lbs running between 4.2 & 4.3 speed. That's crazy...
Ok never mind lol. I shouldn't of brought it up. I guess wishful thinking hoping to see any shadow, no matter how dim, in anyone that has some remote traits, no matter how few or subpar, of Fred. I guess I'm still missing Fred. His situation really bothered me & I kinda wish he'd of left sooner to get that recognition he deserved. I hated how del rio did him too.

It's ok to bring it up, nothing wrong with that at all. The only runner in today's NFL that compares to Fred Taylor is Adrian Peterson, if LeSean McCoy had more power and long speed he'd compare to Fred as well.

I see what you're getting at in terms of play style. Todman cuts to the edge similar to Fred, but he doesn't have the moves that Taylor had. He slashes and that's probably what you and I are seeing, but he doesn't have the full toolbelt like #28.

Yeah that's what I'm seeing. I wasn't implying he's FT 2.0 or anything. I miss him lol.
Kid is very talented with amazing burst and speed. Needs to learn to run between the tackles a little better, but he is young. I think he has the raw skills to groom as the replacement for MoJo when that day comes.. which I pray isn't this offseason.

Todman played well yesterday. I like his style of running and he has the speed to hit a hole for a substantial gain. What I'm concerned w/is his inability to Push A Pile. He doesn't have that run you over mentality...

I'd love to retain MoJo and draft a RB in the upcoming draft. Todman, MoJo and a draftee would be formittable. Now only if Robinson would tighten up we could forego drafting another RB...

NH3...
Congrats Todman on your 109 yrd. effort and lighting a fire underneath MoJo...

Wasn't Fred 230 lbs?

Jim Brown did say that Fred Taylor was one of the best of all time. He was right.

Todman is nothing like Fred though, ...and that doesn't mean that I don't think Todman shouldn't be starting.

Yea he was around 230. Yea dude was a beast. I like todman tho. I wouldn't won't him as the primary back tho. He reminds me of Donald brown which is not a diss. Don brown actually alright.

I definitely miss Freddy, and will miss Mojo when hes gone too, but not as much as Fred

We (Jags fans) may never see another Fred Taylor type talent at RB in our lifetimes. Those type of players are infrequent league wide. So glad I appreciated every snap he gave us here.

I wish old Fred would have talked to young Fred about conditioning and off-season training.   It's crazy how much I didn't appreciate watching him play.

People laugh at me when I say Adrian Peterson reminds me of a young Fred Taylor, but its true in my eyes. Freddy T had hamstring and groin issues early on his career, otherwise he would've probably had a 2000 yard rushing season and would've retired in the top 10 in total rushing yards. This is why Peterson is one of my favorite players in the league. Like watching Fred.

WOW! My mentioning Fred opened a whole other discussion. I'm glad to see how loved he is.

I think thats an excellent comparison.

I too was one who pretty much told anyone that was near me at the sports bar whenever I watched any Peterson game since his rookie year, that the running back he most reminds me of is Fred Taylor.
