Quote:Denard's day on Sunday depends largely on whether they use the new guy or not. (Carter)
It would be good to see Denard get some experience - especially if the line is blocking well. Hopefully 6 or 7 carries.
If they use a newly signed player in the game this week, that doesn't speak well for Robinson.

Perhaps. I think Caldwell/Bradley are willing to be patient with his development beyond this season, but it certainly wouldn't be an endorsement to be passed over by a street FA signed only days prior.
The KR situation is a bit of a question mark - I wonder if he gets another opportunity there? Since Todman may not be back on returns if MJD doesn't play.
He'll get more touches this weekend, with Todman being the only other healthy and knowledgeable of the offense back. However, he's got to hold onto the ball if he does, to begin gaining back trust.
Quote: I'd rather see them use a rotation so that he gets more than just situational carries. It seems like the minute they put him in the defense knows he's getting the ball and that might be part of his production problem. Let him be out there for 8 to 10 plays in a row instead of 1 here and 1 there.
Very good post. My only drawback to it is with him beig on the field that many plays in a row he will likely have to pass block at least once or twice and possibly have to block and release on a few PAs which is why i think the staff is hesitant to leave him out there more.
I think once his catching from the backfield and pass blocking improve he will see more snaps. Its not his running ability which we saw a couple flashes of in the preseason and early part of the year. I seem to remember a couple nice cutbacks and him moving the pile a little that got poster excited.
To be a trusted back to most coaching staffs u need to be able to do more than just run which Denard cant do just yet.
Quote:Does it ever occur to you that the reason he gets so few touches is because he's just not that good? Don't you think if he was showing out in practice that he would get more chances in the game?
It's time for the Robnison fan boys to face reality. He's not that good. Stick to college football please.
I really hope this coaching staff isn't evaluating players based on practice and one or two touches every other week.
I think you need to pick a game where he's going to get a significant amount of touches so you can see if he's a guy that's ineffective, or just slow to pick up his game.
He is a rookie.
Shorts was abysmal his rookie year

It was scary to see Jordan Todman go down and get medical attention before Brad Nessler reported it was just a cramp. Thank God it was nothing worse than that.
If MJD plays, we should not have to worry too much about Denard Robinson.

I think Denard's touches is a direct reflection of him holding on to the ball. I suspect he's had trouble in practice with ball security to match his deficiency in live game situation. He was forced into the rotation early in the year, which is fine because Gus is a rookie HC.
If he gets touches and loses the ball, he doesn't play - that seems to be Gus' main factor for choosing running backs in the rotation. Gus seems to get better every week, as he preaches.
How many lost balls do MOJO and Todman have on the year?
MOJO - 208 attempts,
0 fumbles
Todman - 43 attempts, 8 receptions, 24 kick returns,
0 fumbles
Denard - 17 attempts, 4 kick returns,
2 fumbles
The stats above do not account for the bobbled handoffs and kick catches that Denard has had.

Montee Ball had fumbling issues early in the season. Two weeks ago, he was a nominee for Rookie of the Week. At Tennessee, he ran more than Knowshon Moreno. So fumbling is a problem that can be fixed. Denard Robinson needs to play more in games, however. Hopefully, he will get more carries Sunday and that will help him protect the football.
He fumbles the ball just about every time he touches it. It's a major issue.

That is an exaggeration. Most of the time he does
not fumble it.

. Once per 8.5 carries. I agree he needs more opportunity but he's gotta earn it. As someone noted earlier this has probably been a problem in practice too.
I think Denard will be cut. I'm actually surprised he hasn't been cut yet.
Quote:I think Denard will be cut. I'm actually surprised he hasn't been cut yet.
Is this post serious? Hes a 5th round pick who is switching positions, Once he can be counted on to hold onto the ball his playing time will go up a lot.
Quote:I think Denard will be cut. I'm actually surprised he hasn't been cut yet.
Teams just don't cut a guy with Robinson's talent and attitude after one season, especially if hes making a position switch. Not to mention this team is talent deficient. I'm not surprised at all.
Quote:I think Denard will be cut. I'm actually surprised he hasn't been cut yet.
LOL. Why do so many people say this? A 5th round pick making a position change - costing next to nothing - with unique acceleration and speed. Hmmmmm.....
I feel absolutely certain they'll give this guy some time to develop. I wouldn't be surprised if we see some flash from him this Sunday.
He's a fast guy with no real football skills. May aswell sign Brian Witherspoon again

lol guess you didn't watch him at Michigan.
I'm not saying Denard is good or anything, but to say he has "no real football skills" is ridiculous. His skills may never translate to the NFL, but he was recruited by most schools as an elite DB, came to Michigan because they offered him a chance to play QB, and was drafted to the NFL as a RB. I'd say that is a pretty skilled football player.

No real football skills? What do you call starting at quarterback three and a half seasons at Michigan?
