Welcome to the NFL Denard. It's a tough adjustment for many. The more experience he gets, the better he'll get. He needs reps. If that guy ever gets confident...watch out....dude hits the hole fast. I'd definitely give him another year before writing him off. Otherwise another patient team will pick him up and if he starts to "get it" with them, we'll be kicking ourselves for a long time.
No doubt it was a bad fumble, but I'm sure he'll learn from his mistakes. He's a good football player and the fumbling problem is something that can be fixed. No need to give up on the kid.

He is an over hyped player whom hasnt done anything in the NFL (except a screw up a TD), to get the kind of praise and worship some provide him.

I didnt feel bad for him, but I felt bad for us fans to see him fumble an easy TD.

I really hope this guy gets coached up it seems as if he wants to explode out on the field as a star but doesnt have the skill set to do anything, that might actually be the Jaguars coaching staffs fault for putting him in so many roles but not training him on one specific position.

Some of you who think his job is secure are simply not facing reality.  There will be a time when someone needs to be cut because there are other injuries (like now, to our offensive line) and there just happens to be a young free agent out there who can play left guard.  Signing a guy like that and cutting Denard is a very real possibility.

I think one of the biggest reasons he has remained on this team is because of his very positive attitude.  I hope he stays, and I hope he becomes this homerun threat that people think he will be.  In the NFL, he hasn't shown any of that.

If this team was coached by Tom Coughlin, Denard would have been cut a long time ago.  If there is anything Coughlin hates, it's people fumbling the ball.

You guys aren't realizing, we wouldn't of gotten the TD anyway if it weren't for his incredible run.

It wasn't that incredible.  Most running backs would have gotten at least close to the goal line there.

It's not like he made 5 guys miss.  Fred Taylor had some really INCREDIBLE runs in his career.  Mojo had a few also.

There hasn't been anything incredible at all about Denard this year, except his prevalence of fumbling.

do you not remember that year Tiki Barber fumbled like 9 times? He corrected and came back and had a great year for the Giants.

Quiet you, he's on a roll.
Quote:I think he has a high chance of getting cut and not being on our opening day roster.

He will probably stay a Jaguar until training camp.  He has a LOT of work to do if he's going to earn some trust..  If we draft another RB (lets say Mojo doesn't return) - It might be all over for Denard.

He'll be here next year, at least. DC loves him some Denard.

but but... He's irrational and it's annoying :/

If you don't see a difference between Tiki Barber and Denard Robinson, you are blind.  Tiki fumbled 9 times in his 4th year playing in the NFL - a year he rushed for over 1000 yards for the first time.

In 214 attempts, he fumbled 9 times.  Oh and he also caught the ball 70 times that year.  The Giants "put up" with his 9 fumbles because he was productive in other times.

Denard, in 14 attempts, has fumbled 3 times.  One of the fumbles literally cost us the game.  He's a 5th round pick so he's not really tied to the hip of our GM.  If he doesn't improve fast, he'll be gone.  Simple as that, it happens all the time in the NFL.  To say that I'm irrational about holding this view is crazy.

Thinking Denard is secure, as a 5th round pick who has fumbled 3 times in 14 attempts is insanity.  The ONLY reason he's stuck around this long is because has potential.  There will be a time when his potential just isn't warrented waiting for anymore.  Like when he starts costing us football games, as he did yesterday.

He will have more chances this year.   Let's see what happens.  He will have to do much better to instill confidence in the coaching staff (and the fans, TBH).

Nobody here disagrees. We just all realize that the time won't be after his 1st year in the NFL after switching positions. Denard is a project and Caldwell knew that going in. Denard was an elite runner in college (and didn't have fumble issues) and could be the poster-boy for "low risk, high reward."

Also, the Front Office loves the kid's personality and work ethic. That plays a role.
The guy ran a 4.32 in college. He is a project but if the light comes on and he finds his niche, he could well be worth the investment of time and a roster spot.
didnt the great AP have issues holding on to the ball his whole career? i know he did a couple seasons ago. im not tring to compare them just pointing out if he can contribute fumbles can be over looked

TBH out of Denards 3 fumbles only one was a "bad" one.

His first fumble he got blindsided as he was running a read option with Sanders. He was just pulling the ball back while reading the DE, and got hit from the front.

This past week he only fumbled because he reached out the ball, when it wasnt necessary.

He still needs to correct the issue, but I would be a lot more worried if all 3 fumbles came when he was actually trying to protect it.
Just let the guy keep working on the problem and hopefully by next year he'll have it ironed out.
Can't continue forever with someone who seemingly puts it on the ground every single time.  But, he's young and that gives him time to work this out because the Jaguars aren't going to cut him or anything-to much potential.

I hope he keeps getting some carries these last couple weeks because he is going to break one soon and all of this thread will be laughed at
I keep looking for the offensive weapon and all I see is a pea shooter.

You really need to calm down.  You are correct that there is a point in time that you cut off a player that has potential but hasn't produced but that time is definitely not in their rookie year.  Again, Cecil Shorts would've been cut with his 2 or 3 reception rookie year with that logic.  If Denard didn't have some warts do you really think he would have gotten drafted in the fifth round and maybe not higher?

And one play does not cost a game.  If Henne didn't get picked on 3rd and goal, if Mike Brown didn't fumble, etc.  You can go on and on and look at the mistakes but not any one of those cost the game.  Stop with the hate, enjoy watching Denard grow and maybe he will turn into the athlete that many of us think he can be with time.
